VIA Rail also operates regional services in the West, between Jasper, Alberta and Prince Rupert, British Columbia and between Winnipeg and

In the Quebec City - Windsor Corridor, VIA provides intercity passengers with fast, convenient and a�ordable service, downtown-to-downtown between Canada’s largest business centres. More than 429 Corridor trains run per week, carrying 80 percent of VIA’s total ridership. In Eastern Canada VIA Rail provides train service three times per week between Montreal and Gaspé on board the Chaleur, and three times per week between Montreal and Halifax on board the state-of-the art overnight train, the Ocean.

Day 10: Jasper to Ban�Begin your coach touring to Lake Louise and Ban� along the Ice�elds Parkway, one of the worlds most spectacular highways which travels through both the Jasper and Ban� National Parks and past the Columbia ice�eld. Today includes lunch, entry to the newly opened Glacier Skywalk and a trip on an Ice Explorer onto the Athabasca Glacier before making a photo stop at Lake Louise on your way to overnight at Ban�.

Day 11: Ban� to Lake LouiseBegin with a half days excursion from Ban� with a gondola ride to the top of Sulphur Mountain. Continue on via Bow Falls to your 1 hour cruise on Lake Minnewanka. Look out for deer, big horn sheep and eagles. After returning to Ban�, an afternoon transfer to your overnight accommodation in Lake Louise.

Day 12: Lake Louise to KelownaYour coach leaves Lake Louise for your overnight accommodation at Kelowna via Rodgers Pass into the Glacier National Park with lunch included at the alpine town of Revelstoke. Your coach then heads south into the Okanagan Valley famous for its orchards and vineyards. Stop for a tour and tasting at a local winery.

Churchill, Manitoba is a small, northern community with a lot of character and one of the best places in the world to view polar bears in their natural habitat. Every year, polar bears congregate in large numbers, waiting for the ice to form on Hudson Bay.

These hotel-based tours o�er a well rounded program combining polar bear viewing with activities in and around the community of Churchill. These programs are designed for those who wish to learn about the history and culture of Churchill and region, as well as experience polar bears.

Great Bear Lodge is located 50 air miles from Port Hardy, British Columbia. The fully self-contained floating lodge is situated at an outstanding wildlife viewing location. Known as the Great Bear Rainforest, this area is one of the best places in the world to observe grizzly bears and many other wildlife including black bears, wolves and bald eagles.

The charming lodge has eight bedrooms each with an en suite bathroom. Gourmet meals await you at the lodge on your return from the wilderness. In between bear viewing sessions you will be able to join a guided activity such as seakayaking or an interpretive hike.

Located 80 air kilometres north of Campbell River, British Columbia, is the wild and remote Knight Inlet. Situated 60 kilometers from the mouth of the inlet in Glendale Cove is Knight Inlet Lodge.

Glendale Cove is home to one of the largest concentrations of grizzly bears in British Columbia. It is not uncommon for there to be up to 50 bears within 10 kilometers of the lodge in the peak fall season, when the salmon are returning to the river. Although they are abundant in the fall, it is not the only season that grizzly bears can be found in Glendale Cove.

Starting in late April the bears return to the estuary from winter dens and start the year feeding on the sedges, succulents, grasses and barnacles that abound in the estuary. This is the time to see, at close proximity, the tiny cubs emerge with their ever-cautious mothers. In the summer, the berry crop is

very heavy and this helps keeps the bears in the general area.

As well as bear viewing, Knight Inlet Lodge also offers a number of other highlights including marine wildlife tours, excursions to the upper reaches of Knight Inlet, day-hiking programs and guided kayaking tours.

The Great Bear Rainforest is the largest piece of intact temperate rainforest left on the planet. Towering green, forested mountains give way to richly bio-diverse river valley bottoms and estuaries which teem with wild salmon. It is the home of the great grizzly bear, coastal wolves, cougar and many other terrestrial mammals.

Spirit Bear Lodge is located 280 nautical miles north of Vancouver in the heart of the rainforest. Nestled in a remote archipelago of small islands, Spirit Bear Lodge is positioned to offer unparalleled access to some of the best grizzly and Spirit Bear viewing in the region.

Day 1: Juneau, Alaska – EmbarkationArriving in Juneau, you will be transferred from the airport. Upon boarding, your crew greets you with champagne and smiles as you set sail.

Day 2-3: Glacier Bay National Park Accompanied by a National Park Ranger, over the two days in the park you’ll travel nearly 60 miles cruising up-bay to the tidewater glaciers of Grand Paci�c and Margerie, which frequently calve huge icebergs into the bay. Enjoy evenings at anchor in hidden coves, and mornings paddling your kayak. Here in the bay there are pu�ns and sea lions, mountain goats and bears, moose, eagles, and scenery more spectacular than any place on earth.

Day 4: Icy Strait Set your course for arguably the richest whale waters

in Southeast Alaska. Keep watch for the telltale blow of the humpbacks as you scour the nutrient-rich waters in search of whales, porpoise, sea lions, and other wildlife.

Join the Captain on the bridge or go on deck with your Expedition Leader. Late afternoon, drop the ski�s and kayaks for closer inspection of the remote coastline with eyes set on shore for possible bear sightings.

Day 5: Chichagof Island / Baranof Island Cruise along the waterfall coast of Chichagof Island. Marvel at the grand scenery of Alaska’s wilderness as the crew expertly guides you through those “not in the guide book” places known only to the locals. This evening, perhaps tucking away in a waterfall-laced �ord, there’ll be time for ski�ng, beachcombing or treks ashore, and kayaking to look for sea otters and bears before calling it a day near Baranof Island.

Day 6: Frederick Sound / Stephen’s PassageSpend the day exploring the serene Frederick Sound and peaceful Stephen’s Passage—another excellent chance to view humpback whales. Pass by Five Fingers Lighthouse and a large sea lions haulout made from dozens of rocky islets.

Day 7: Ford’s Terror / Endicott Arm Cli�-walled �ords sliced into the mountainous mainland are widely acclaimed as the most beautiful in the whole state. Explore this majestic Fjord Terror by kayak or ski�. View rugged ice-covered mountains gleaming high overhead and a glacier that actively calves into the ice-�lled �ord of Endicott Arm. Toast your voyage with a festive Farewell Dinner.

Day 8: Juneau – Disembark Gather for breakfast before returning to historic Juneau. A transfer to the Juneau airport or the Baranof Hotel is included.

8 Day Alaska’s Golden History Cruise 8 days/7 nights from Ketchikan to Juneau (or in reverse)

When the Klondike Gold Rush began in 1897, Alaska was a land of opposites – hardship and promise, good fortune and bad luck, lawlessness and justice – and Soapy Smith, con man extraordinaire, saw opportunity. Unlike your journey, Soapy traveled with his own “law and order society” and was thrown out of towns, welcomed in saloons, and his name was legendary. The present slips away and the past emerges as you sail out of Ketchikan, through what is now the Tongass National Forest.

Days 2-6You’ll meet any number of fascinating characters during your passage through time sailing in and out of ports strategic to prospectors or that served as launch points for pioneering naturalists. Cruise “inside routes” long ago plied by Russian sea otter hunters, dock in towns that �ourished as fur trading centers, and visit forts and landmarks where history was forever changed.

With your crew of scallywags and hooligans, stagger back to the vessel’s Pesky Barnacle Saloon, and imagine the revelry of the day. Trusting your captain to seek out the best opportunities for wilderness and wildlife viewing, you are sure to �nd it along the shores of Chichagof Island and in the northern whale waters of Icy Strait. Days 7-8Spend your last day in the Gold Rush town of Skagway – the setting for Jack London’s Call of the Wild – and in Haines, an integral native trade center. Tour an old fort, visit a museum, stroll along wooden boardwalks, and ride a narrow gauge railway 3,000 feet up and around cli�-hanging turns for a stunning panorama of glaciers, gorges, mountains, and waterfalls. Brooks Falls Bear Viewing ExperienceDay tours and extended stay options from Anchorage

Brooks Falls is world famous for its iconic images of bears catching salmon as they jump the falls on their way upstream to their spawning grounds. Bears are usually at the falls mid June thru mid September but bears are not always there and bear sightings are not guaranteed.

The nearest accommodation is at Brooks Lodge located in the Katmai National Park. Accommodation and hence visitor numbers are limited – early bookings essential.

Day tours and one, two and three night packages are o�ered and alternative accommodation at King Salmon has been developed to overcome the bed shortages at Brooks Lodge. Due to possible variations in �ight schedules arising from weather conditions or for other reasons pre and post nights in Anchorage are necessary.

AnAn Creek Bear Viewing Experience Day tours and 3 day / 2 night options from Wrangell

AnAn Creek located in the Tongass National Forest o�ers one of the best bear viewing areas in South East Alaska where both brown and black bears can be seen feeding on salmon. A visit to AnAn Creek is a great stop over package for ferry passengers.

Day tours by jet boat to AnAn Creek from Wrangell pass through the Eastern Passage where eagles, seals, sea lions, dolphins and occasionally an orca may be sighted.

On arrival there is a ½ mile hike to the multi level observatory platform where bears may be seen feeding on salmon 30ft below or 150ft across the river on the opposite bank. US Forest service guides provide a bear viewing safety brie�ng on arrival and manage the time spent on the platform typically to about 3 hrs and the overall day tour about 6 hrs.

No visit to Canada or Alaska would be complete without seeing the famous Northern Lights, the Aurora Borealis, which have their origin in solar �ares creating gigantic electrical storms in the earths magnetic �elds over the North Pole. These �ares glow or ripple across the night sky and billow with mysterious curtains of rainbow colours from white, green and yellow to pink and blue - a never to be forgotten spectacle.

The Northern Lights are active all year round and the better viewing times are in Autumn/Winter/Spring as it is too light in the Summer months, with winter o�ering the greatest opportunities as there is so little daylight in the higher latitudes of Northern Canada and Alaska.

All though winter clothing is included whilst at hotels and when viewing travellers should nevertheless come suitably dressed for arrival and departure in winter conditions and be aware that, as Aurora viewing is heavily dependent on weather conditions, sightings cannot be guaranteed at all times.

1 night at a Whitehorse hotel with private viewing site nearby with interpretative commentary plus warm drinks and treats while viewing, 2 nights at the new Takhini Lodge which is located 35km from Whitehorse’ in the pristine and scenic Takhini River valley far from the city so that the lights can be viewed directly from the hotel deck and rooms. Winter clothing provided plus breakfast and dinner whilst at the Lodge. All transfers.

Day 7 Coach leaves for a morning departure to Anchorage with a tour through the historic downtown area, Lakes Hood and Spenard and a visit to the Alaska Zoo. This evening attend the Iditarod festivities and the Mushers banquet (B, D) Overnight Anchorage.

Day 8 Coach leaves for a visit to the Happy Trails Kennels to hear from the 4 times Iditarod champion Martin Buser then returning to overnight in Anchorage visiting the Iditarod Headquarters on the way. (B)

Day 9 After breakfast walk to 4th Avenue to witness the ceremonial start of the Iditarod Sled Dog Race during the day participate in the rest of the Iditarod festivities and a visit to the Alaska Native Heritage Centre. In the evening join your fellow travellers in a farewell dinner with just one more day to go. (B,D)

Day 10 Weather permitting leave for the small town of Willow for the Official Start of the Iditarod Dog Sled Race. Warm clothes and foot wear are essential as you walk to the start line to join in the cheering for the racers setting off at 2 minute intervals on their 1131 mile journey to Nome. Look out for Mt Mckinley at Willow as the coach travels back to overnight in Anchorage. (B,Snacks)

No employee of MTS can change for the client any of these terms and conditions or any of those of MTS’s service providers that apply to any service booked by the client with MTS.3 Pricing & PaymentAll prices for any deposited booking which includes components based on foreign currency and/or includes airfares and taxes remains subject to increases in line with foreign currency exchange rate variations and changes in air fares and taxes up to the time of receipt by MTS of the total price of the booking (final payment) but no increase will apply once the final payment has been received by MTS. Details of the cost of services booked will appear in the MTS booking confirmation/invoice. Except where specifically stated otherwise in MTS’s and MTS’s service providers booking related travel documentation then bookings do not include meals, airport transfers and sightseeing tours and exclude personal expenditure such as laundry, telephone calls, emergency evacuation costs, drinks, excess baggage, Government airport and airline fees and charges, passport and visa fees and charges, gratuities, insurances also all travel costs in Australia to the point of international departure. Payment can be made by electronic funds transfer (EFT), credit cards, money order/bank cheque or Enett. Payment by EFT to be to the account name “MTS Trust Account” at the National Australia Bank (NAB) with BSB 082-167 and Account No. 15 106 7157.Payment by credit cards attracts surcharges (Visa/Mastercard 1.5%, AMEX and Diners Club 3%).Personal and company cheques must be cleared by MTS bank before documents are released4 Deposits & Balance of Payments and Payment deadlinesA non refundable deposit of at least 25% of the total booking value (see also below) is required for all bookings payable within 7 days of receipt of MTS booking confirmation /invoice with the balance of payment (final payment) due at the time stipulatedFor bookings made less than 60 days prior to departure the deposit and balance of payment is required within 7 days of confirmation of the clients acceptance of MTS’s quotation and issue by MTS of its invoice for the amount(s) due. For bookings made within 14 days of departure the deposit and balance of payment is required within 48 hours and a credit card guarantee will be required at time of booking.Bookings incorporating special offers for air fares and other services may require full payment within 72 hours or less of confirmation and certain service suppliers may periodically impose separate stricter deposit and booking conditions which MTS’s consultants will advise at the time of booking.If for any reason deposits and or balance of payments are not received by MTS by the due date(s) MTS reserves the right not to make corresponding deposits/ balance of payments as may be required by service providers to secure clients reservations. It is the clients responsibility to pay deposits and balance of payments within the time periods stipulated in MTS’s invoice(s) and MTS accepts no responsibility for cancellations made by service providers such as but not limited to tour operators, hotels, guest lodges, airlines, railways and other transportation companies or car hire operators if reservations are cancelled because of failure to pay deposits and/or balance of payments on time.5 Booking documentation and amendments before and after departureMTS’s booking documentation is normally forwarded to clients or their travel agent 3 weeks prior to the booking commencement date and if clients depart Australia prior to this date it may be necessary to courier documents at client’s expense to an overseas address. After a booking is first confirmed MTS allows one subsequent booking amendment free of amendment fee charge but additional amendments may each incur an amendment fee of $75 (inclusive of GST) and all amendments are subject to any additional charges levied by the relevant

service provider(s). If MTS are unable to amend any booking to the clients requirements due to circumstances beyond MTS control and a booking cancellation is desired then cancellation charges will apply.MTS is unable to assist in changing client arrangements after departure from Australia and should changes be desired whilst overseas contact should be made with the relevant service provider listed on the MTS voucher. Clients must be aware that the relevant service provider may levy an amendment fee for any change of arrangements and that no refund is available on return to Australia if clients cancel or amend travel arrangements whilst overseas furthermore MTS service providers are not authorised to confirm refunds directly to MTS clients.6 Cancellation provisionsClient cancellations• For cancellations made outside of 60 days prior to departure or booking commencement which

commencement whichever is the later the cancellation charge is 50% of the total booking value.• For cancellations made 35 days but not less than 21 days prior to departure or booking

commencement whichever is the later the cancellation charge is 75% of the total booking value.• For cancellations made less than 21 days prior to departure or booking commencement

whichever is the later the cancellation charge is 100% of the total booking value.Service provider cancellationsMTS and all service providers reserve the right to cancel any booked client service before departure if the minimum number of participants required to operate the service is not reached or for any other reason deemed necessary or beyond MTS’s or the relevant service provider’s control. In the event of any such cancellation occurring, alternative services will be offered but if an alternative service acceptable to the client is not available a full refunded will be provided.7 Unused & extra servicesNo refund will be considered for non-acceptance of pre-booked services once a booking has commenced irrespective of the reason. Where passengers are unable to access any of the services booked due to invalid or mislaid mandatory travel documents (see below), ill health or for any other reason, the unused portion of the booked services are non refundable. MTS will not accept responsibility or make payments for extra services desired by clients after issue of travel documentation ie for any service not stated as included and prepaid on the MTS vouchers. MTS accept no responsibility for costs incurred by clients due to delays and or cancellations by service providers that require clients to make alternative and or additional arrangements not provided by the relevant service provider. It is the clients responsibility to settle these costs as and when they occur direct with the service provider engaged to provide the alternative and or additional requirements.8 Passports, Visas and other mandatory travel documentationClients must make all necessary enquiries to ensure they are in possession of all valid mandatory travel documentation prior to commencement of their booking and MTS accepts no responsibility in the event of clients failure to do so.Australian citizens require a current passport, which must be valid for the required period (historically 6 months) after return to Australia. Australian nationals may require visas and it is the clients responsibility to obtain all required visas before departure. Non Australian passport holders should check directly with their consulates for visa requirements and must also ensure that they have the correct re-entry documentation for return to Australia and failure to do so can result in the need to cancel travel arrangements and incur cancellation charges.It is absolutely essential that the names of passengers provided to MTS are exactly as they appear in the passenger’s passport. Name changes are considered as a cancellation by airlines and require seats to be re-booked and tickets re-issued which may result in loss of confirmed seating and can incur the client in additional charges.Where any booking includes car or motor home rental clients must be in possession of a valid international drivers licence. 9 Travel InsuranceCancellation and refund conditions are strictly enforced so MTS strongly recommend clients take out comprehensive travel insurance at the date of booking which covers cancellation and delays due to unforeseen circumstances. Clients are strongly recommended to arrange such cover with their travel agent or their MTS consultant. MTS advise clients to ensure that all pre-existing health conditions and all other relevant matters are declared when applying for insurance.If travel insurance offered by other providers such as credit card companies is used it is recommended careful consideration be given to ensuring that such insurance cover is adequate. 10 Brochure and Website accuracyRooms, facilities and scenes appearing in the MTS and service providers brochures and websites represent those rooms, facilities and features associated with the hotels, tours and other services offered at the time of compilation of the brochure(s) or website(s).Photographs and descriptions are accurate at the time of printing/loading and every effort is made to ensure the brochures and website illustrations are as accurate as possible but MTS cannot guarantee that these necessarily depict the rooms, facilities, features or seasonal scenes current at the time the booked service is provided.11 PrivacyIn order for MTS to process any booking clients agree that MTS may use any personal information provided by them to MTS such as but not limited to names, gender, age, postal and e-mail addresses, passport details, disabilities, dietary/religious requirements /persuasion etc etc. Such information may also be provided by MTS to security or credit checking companies, and public authorities such as customs and immigration if required by them or by law. On occasion MTS may also use contact details provided to distribute brochures or other travel related material. MTS undertakes not pass on such client information to any person or organisation not involved in service supply relevant to any booking made. 12 Complaints Any complaints while travelling should be made immediately to the relevant service provider’s representative or relevant local authorities. Clients should allow the service supplier the opportunity to directly resolve any complaint at the time it arises but if any complaint remains unresolved, to obtain MTS’s support, clients must lodge a written detailed complaint with the service supplier within 14 days of the date of returning to Australia on completion of any booking. Any complaints that remain unresolved after completion of this procedure must be conveyed to MTS in writing within 28 days of the first date of communication with the service supplier together with all supporting documents and MTS will then endeavour to assist in resolving the matters complained about but cannot guarantee the client a successful outcome.
