VoiceVIP members and family from Huron, Britton, Lakefield and Denver joined us for

a fun-filled St. Patrick’s Day trip to New Orleans on March 15-19th. We were greeted by Trips staff at the airport with the traditional Mardi Gras beads for everyone! A fabulous evening meal with several choices of traditional Louisiana dishes was enjoyed the first evening at Mulate’s. Lively music during our meal added to the atmosphere as we kicked off this fun trip!

The following morning, we headed into the French Quarter and walked down Bourbon Street on our way to the New Orleans School of Cooking. Our chef shared several interesting facts about the history of New Orleans while preparing our lunch. The afternoon was spent at the World War II Museum, beginning with a very moving showing of the movie, “Beyond all Boundaries”, produced and narrated by Tom Hanks. We then had time to explore the various museums. There are five different buildings and many agreed that they would like to go

back when they had more time. Leaving the museum, we were joined by our very knowledgeable guide for a tour of the city. That evening, ev-eryone had free time to watch the parade, explore the city and find fun places for their evening meal.

Before departing the next morning, Trips supplied everyone with a variety of St. Patrick’s Day hats. We then headed out for a drive through the country to Laura Plantation, built in 1805 on the west bank of the Mississippi River by a wealthy French-man. Our guided tour included the very interesting history of the family as well as stories of the slaves owned by the family. An authentic Cajun Country lunch followed, again with lively music during the meal.

The afternoon was spent at Mardi Gras World, where our guide explained the detailed process involved in making the beau-tiful float displays. We were then able to wander around the area to view some of the floats still assembled from Mardi Gras, as well as many props created by their artists. It was hard to believe how much time is involved in creating each of the floats. Head-ing back to the hotel, we had some free time before enjoying the Downtown Irish Club St. Patrick’s Day Parade. Parade goers were lavished with beads, flowers, kisses and more from the parade participants.

Our final day in New Orleans was a free day for guests to do as they wished. Several toured and/or attended mass at the famous St. Louis Cathedral. Everyone was given coupons for beignets at Café Du Monde and the famous Hurricane cocktail at Pat O’Brien’s. There were so many options including carriage rides, riding the street cars, touring the unusual New Orleans cem-eteries, Harrah’s Casino, as well as enjoying the unique blend of architecture in the city between the Spanish and French sides of the city. The options for traditional New Orleans food were endless as well, including po-boy and muffuletta sandwiches, oyster bars, gumbo and endless seafood choices. Thank you to all of our VIP members who enjoyed another great adventure with the VIP Club and Trips!
