I AM THE CITY Cities have always been important protagonists in our history, but now, more than ever, they are taking the leading role in our developing culture. The intensified urbanization and increasing importance of cities like London, Paris, New York and Mexico, which are becoming through their assets and appeal more prominent than the nations they belong to, is evident to us all.In this series, the most prominent cities in the world are given a chance to reassert their unique personalities and show us their individuality via a pictorial tour and compelling anecdotes. They can show off their exceptional monuments, both historical and contemporary, their particular ambience and flavour, their

visual and cultural singularity – the things that mark them out in the face of the encroaching tide of homogeneity. The series brings not only revelation and discovery to new visitors, but also rediscovery and renewed enthusiasm to the cities’ inhabitants, too easily blinded by their frenetic lifestyles to the extraordinary monuments, visual panoramas and street life they live amongst. “It’s a pleasure to meet you, city!”

Born in Italy, Carlo Stanga has always been deeply passionate about drawing. After graduating in architecture at the Polytechnic of Milan, he chose to further his education by pursuing studies in art and design. His collaboration with the

leading Italian designer Bruno Munari was an amazing experience that influenced his way of seeing the world. As an editorial and advertising illustrator, Carlo works with major Italian and international clients in Europe and the US.His distinctive style continually wins Italian illustration awards, his work has been selected by The American Illustration Annual, and he also won the Gold Medal Award in the Creative Quarterly’s contests as well as Awards of Excellence from Communication Arts.In this new series dedicated to the main cities of the world, Carlo lets each city speak for itself, while he takes pleasure in combining what he loves most: illustration, architecture, design, art and travel.Carlo lives and works in Berlin.

This book is the last graphic work produced and wholly conceived by Bob Noorda.Bob Noorda was a Dutch designer and architect who naturalized as an Italian citizen. Starting in the 1960s, he came to the fore as one of the main artificers of the renewal of twentieth-century Italian graphic art.Noorda worked in the Dutch capital until 1954, when he decided to move to Italy to settle in Milan. He worked on the signage and visual features of Milan’s subway system (1964) and which won him his first of four Compasso d’Oro.

In 1965, along with the designer Massimo Vignelli, he set up the graphic agency Unimark International, famous for using a very modern approach to design for international clients such as IBM, Pirelli, Olivetti, la Rinascente and the New York subway system, for which they redesigned the entire communication system.Moleskine follows up the acclaimed title on John Alcorn with another release of one of the most important designer of the past century.

FASHION UNFOLDS A collection of books which reveal the creative process of leading international figures in fashion design. “Fashion Unfolds” gives an intimate look into the secret, multifaceted and fascinating world of past and contemporary fashion designers, like precious objects that reflect each designer philosophy. As well as hundreds of images each book includes unpublished interviews and essays by the industry’s leading journalists. These books reveal the poetry of processes and precision that have led to the most unexpected creativity. They are materials for study, providing inspiration and awe.

Talented and audacious, with working-class origins, Westwood embodies, in the popular imagination, one of the iconic figures in the mythology of the western: the outlaw who has managed to give the sheriff the slip and earn honour and respect from the community. A rebel by chance rather than by choice, a conservative revolutionary in the tradition dating back to the suffragette movement, Dame Vivienne represents quintessential Britishness strongly rooted in culture. Although she is the ‘queen of punk’ with a particular interest in philosophy and the painting of bygone days, a social activist and aesthete who loves to delve into the past, she constantly and inexplicably finds herself in the vanguard. In an account that starts from the creation

of fifteen garments and accessories, this book pinpoints references to past times and art history, together with aesthetic and philosophical elements. After the ready-mades of the 1960s, in which she made use of mass-produced clothes, took them apart, cut them up and then mixed them together — reflecting the growing fusion between art and fashion — Westwood was able to indulge her intellectual curiosity with the help of books and pictures. She did not sketch her models on paper, but created them directly using the moulage technique on a small dressmaker’s dummy or even herself, working around the figure, so that the final result was the modification of the body’s shape, with radical structural alterations and asymmetric cuts.
