REPAIR AND PROTECTION OF UNDERGROUND SEAWATER STORAGE TANK Project Description: Molecular Corrosion Technologies: page 1 of 1 / 27-STechref-4 • Buried carbon steel tank for storage of sea water is continously being exposed to soil stress & galvainic attack causing severe corrosion to tank body. • The tank was wrapped in SolarTech VE55 sheet laminate. Adhesion of the laminate on manually prepared steel and also between overlap layers is excellent and seamless. This was the prefered protection system as it is highly efficient in resisting soil stress and seawater. Application took place in 3 stages: 1) The surface of carbon steel was mechanically abraded to ST2 Standard. 2) The tank walls were cleaned with acetone followed by the application of 1st coat of SolarSeal. 3) Layer of SolarTech VE55 was applied over SolarSeal “wet on wet”.
