When a friend called me out of the blue to off er me a

golden opportunity in the city, I informed her that I had

moved to Nottingham a few years back and I am settling in

well. “Oh, I did not realise you had reached retirement age”.

Though I am sure she still thinks me as myopic for having

chosen Nottingham over London as my new home, I am

convinced Nottingham holds the best opportunities for

our community oriented services. The opportunity to work

with African communities in Nottingham through various

organisations such as African Community Nottingham

and the ability to be actively engaged in informing a

smaller and more intimate group of people about what is

happening around them makes me extremely excited.

The increasing number of people within Mojatu team and the fast increasing number of African communities joining our pool of clients and service providers is excellent for teamwork and personal satisfaction. The upcoming African community centre is a source of great pride.

Though my friend assured me that I “will crawl back to London in the middle of the night begging to be taken back by the city I betrayed”, I am saying a big NO! Nottingham has become my new and true home. This is where my my heart is!

I invite you all to this African Community Centre where we will work together in creating a vibrant home for our community activities and services. With meeting rooms, a functions hall, hot desks which users can hire on daily, weekly or monthly basis, this is the place to network and base your community organisation and small business services. You can also get virtual offi ce where your mails can be received, business registration, accounting, legal, graphic and web design services.

During the occasion which started at 5pm, the organisers of the event, Wonderson Chideya and Patrice Musarurwa outlined the aims and objectives of ACN. They confi rmed the need for a united front to address the challenges facing Africans in Nottingham and their need to showcase their contributions and success in the community.

Many African community groups, businesses and professions were represented during the event. Certifi cates of recognition were also issued in addition to inspirational and challenging speeches. “The African community is blessed with academics, professionals in health, business, media, and awareness programs. We all need to come together at an occasion like this one and see which areas we can help and support each other’, said Patrice.

Wonderson added that “It is sad that people are living comfortably in their own circles and failing to come out and make a diff erence. We are not asking for contributions in monetary terms but a contribution of their time and expertise”.

Councillor Bryan commended the vision and eff orts of ACN in enhancing the wellbeing of Africans in Nottingham. She emphasised on the importance and timeliness of ACN and its activities. She noted that “this is an excellent initiative for Africans to take time to have dialogue, support each other and network. This is working on a wider, more inclusive program that would be a credible voice to articulate the needs of the Black Community. “I am openly inviting you to work with us and other stake holders in the ‘Community Partnership Forum’.

You have made a very good start and have a very promising future” she continued.

The Sheriff echoed other speakers and the founders of ACN in emphasising the need for having a united front to Africans in Nottingham. She requested that she be included in the ACN’s future programs including the upcoming summer programs. Citing the signifi cance of ACN’s achievement, the Sheriff stated that “I have lived in Nottingham for 50 years and at no time have l sat down for a meal with the African community group of this nature. I shall live to cherish this day for a long time to come” Summing up her speech, she urged ACN to move on confi dently by assuring them to “rest assured that l will back you all the way”.

Victor Mukuruva acknowledged the work being carried out by Amdani Juma who runs Aids Awareness workshops through the Godfrey Higgins trust and the African Institute for Social Development. Amdani has been involved with the program since 2003. He received an ACN appreciation award for his activities. ‘Our attitude towards those who suff er from HIV and Aids must change. I would have hoped that at this point in time we would be educated enough not to shun or marginalise those with the condition’, said Mr Mukuruva.

A psychiatric nurse, Anthony Okenwa reiterated the need for change in attitude towards the sick and the needy. He urged the need for positive attitude. He concluded by pledging to support ACN especially in matters relating to mental health.

Swiss Ed, the proprietor of Swiss Global Finance located along Radford road urged Africans to maintain their cultures. He cited the need for unity, community and social integration which are core to most African people. He challenged the Africans to look at the good examples of other ethnic groups who have managed to keep their values. He was particularly worried about children’s confusion through identity crisis. He also called for ‘purity of action and thought’ among community leaders so that Nottingham can be a better place to raise children.

Certifi cates of recognition were issued to various individuals and organisations.

and Campbell Mtetwa on their behalf. Ngoma Band was recognised for its extensive engagement in cultural events across Nottingham through awareness campaigns, workshops and fundraisers. Ngoma spokesman, Ras Goodies, felt it was such a shame that the band does not get much support from the African community. He hoped that platforms such as the ACN will provide better engagement and participation of Africans in many community activities. This will enable them to witness what their African counterparts are doing. Mojatu Foundation was recognised for its active role in enhancing community information dissemination among Africans in Nottingham.

Ms Kudzai Chilimanzi introduced the women’s forum which she runs with Mrs Ruth Chideya, Ms Sibonginkosi Gumbo and Mrs Onyinyechi Okenwa among others. The group meets

regularly to discuss home related issues and matters aff ecting women including off ering support and advice. The group is open to anyone who is interested in joining.

ACN has many exciting plans for times ahead. The group continues to grow and aims to incorporate everyone within Nottingham. You do not need to be an African to join ACN. Patrice concluded that “as long as you have an interest with African aff airs you are most welcome. This is what brings the great in Great Britain – cultural diversity”.

Andrew Harvey, the widower of the late Goldie Harvey has warned Prezzo of Kenya to keep off .

Nigerian pop star Goldie Harvey, 31 died in Reddington hospital in Lagos after being taken ill. It was reported that she had complained of a severe headache at her Park View residence shortly after returning from the US where she attended the Grammy Award.

Born Susan Adebimpe Filani, she was expected to marry Kenyan musician, Prezzo later this year. They met when she represented Nigeria in the Big Brother Africa in 2012 while Prezzo represented Kenya. It has since emerged that Goldie was married.

The Voluntary & Community Sector Grants team in partnership with the Equality and Community Relations team at Nottingham City Council are hosting a briefi ng session for groups and organisations wishing to apply for the recently announced ‘One Off Equalities Small Grants Funding’. The session will enable you to ask questions about the application process and the kind of things we will be looking for when making decisions. It’s time for young people in Nottingham to showcase their creative talent - with the launch of the 2013 Young Creative Awards.

This year’s competition will be bigger and better than ever, with the awards taking place in May. Its categories include Animation & Digital Media, Architecture & Design, Creative Writing, Dance, Fashion

& Textiles, Film, Graphic Design, Music, Photography and Visual Arts.

The Young Creative Awards were launched in 2009 to attract up and coming creative talent in the city and put young people in Nottingham on the creative map. This year’s award ceremony will take place at The Nottingham Playhouse on the 13 May 2013.

Community Partnership Forum (CPF) by Paul Ifayomi

The CPF was founded “To be a credible voice to articulate the needs of the Black community (African/ African-Caribbean/ Dual Heritage) in relation to community planning, service delivery by mainstream institutions and to work for the equitable allocation of resources, particularly in relation to education, employment and economic development.”

The group also seeks to promote partnership working amongst Black led organisations and to build bridges between African and African-Caribbean individuals and communities in Nottingham.

The focus of the meeting on the 30th January was a ‘Question Time’ type discussion with Paddy Tipping (Police & Crime Commissioner for Nottinghamshire), Cllr Nick McDonald (Cabinet member and Portfolio holder for Employment and Business) and Cllr Alex Norris (Cabinet member and Portfolio holder for Communities).

The aims of the meeting were to introduce the guests to the CPF, to fi nd out their respective priorities for the coming year and how they intend to address the specifi c problems facing Black people in Nottingham in their area of responsibilities.

There was a robust and open discussion and Mr Tipping promised to return to meet the group in the summer following the publication of research he has recently commissioned which explores, ‘The BME experience of Policing’.

All three guests were asked to send the CPF details of what they hope to accomplish in the year ahead which has specifi c relevance to Black people and organisations in Nottingham.

The next meeting of the CPF is Tuesday 26th February 2013 at 6.00pm at Marcus Garvey Centre, Lenton Boulevard, Nottingham.

Katy Ball who heads up the City Council’s Commissioning Team will be the guest speaker.

We also want people to formally affi liate their organisations/themselves to the CPF at this meeting.

Marcus Garvey Centre. The creation of the CPF was catalysed by the eff orts of Cllr Merlita Bryan, the current Sheriff of

New African Radio Station

Speaking to Mojatu, station owner Mr. Opoku Jacob said that Insite Radio is a local focus and will showcase and report on the unrepresented people from the Africa community in Nottingham in particular and in the East midlands at large.

“We are local and locally focused. We hope that you, the local people, will be part of Insite Radio to help shape the contents and progression of Insite Radio. In addition, Insite Radio is the voice of the African community in our region so let your voice be heard with your creativity, ideas and suggestions at to how to move the African person to his/her true self of dignity. This is a great development and it off ers Africans a voice and platform for sharing ideas, noted Mr. Musarurwa of African Community Network. Michael Richard who presents “Let’s change Africa” a political show on Sunday afternoons commended the station for facilitating Africans in East Midlands to integrate in the local community while keeping abreast with the developments in Africa. It off ers a variety of great listening throughout the week.

Young people from across the City have been working over the past nine months with Beats and Brains, Base 51 and Nottingham Domestic Violence Forum to write, cast, screen, edit, produce and provide backing tracks to a DVD movie entitled Respect Me. Produced in partnership with Fourmost Films and Joe Buddha, this is the third project run by Beats and Brains around sex and relationship issues aff ecting young people in Nottingham.

Endorsed by JLS, Wretch32, Sean Paul, Kano, Scorcher, Durex and MTV, Respect Me is the story of Nathan, a talented sixteen year old footballer, and his best friend who share the dream of playing professionally. They are best friends and so are their girlfriends. The fi lm explores issues of physical and emotional abuse in relationships, the fear of speaking out, recognising the signs of domestic violence and feeling empowered to do something about it. JLS star Marvin Humes said, “The fi lm was amazing. I was just talking to Lucy and the young people who are part of the crew and it’s amazing.”

Beats and Brains project worker Lucy Sheldon said, “Respect Me challenges some of the biggest taboos around domestic violence, and highlights to young people that domestic

violence is not just physical but emotional. Beats and Brains has always focused on positive relationships, and the young people have been amazing- they wrote the script, acted the scenes, helped edit the fi lm and created the tracks backing it.”

The movie launches at an offi cial screening at Nottingham Forest Football Club on February 14th at 7pm with the young people, their families and VIP’s invited to the screening. Complete with red carpet and non-alcoholic drinks reception, Respect Me will be shown as well as performances from the young people who have worked on the movie.

Base 51 Business Development Manager Damian Chapman added, “Nottingham has been successfully running the Man Enough Campaign to highlight the issue around domestic violence, and Respect Me is young people standing together and saying with one voice, Respect Me.”

People of Nottingham diocese bring a gift of hope to those hungry for change

People across Nottingham diocese will be taking part in

CAFOD’s annual Lent appeal to raise funds for those in the

world who do not have enough to eat.

Churches and schools around the diocese will be putting on a number of activities to raise funds and awareness for those around the world who go hungry, such as organising an Emmaus Meal, a frugal Fast Day lunch, a fundraiser, or a big card signing, to mark the annual Lent Fast Day on Friday, February 22, 2013.

Hunger is the world’s biggest health risk, killing more people annually than the combined eff ect of diseases such as AIDS, malaria and tuberculosis. Currently, 870 million people go to bed hungry every night, millions of them children, even though there is enough food in the world to feed everyone.

Across the world, the price of basic food is expected to double by 2030. In developing countries people spend up to 70% of their income on food, while in richer countries people spend between 10-20% of their income on food.

CAFOD is focussing this Lent on the story of Tabita, from Kenya. Drought hit the community where Tabita’s family lives three years ago. All their livestock – apart from two cows and a goat – died as a result. The whole family became emaciated and Tabita herself suff ered from malnutrition. The milk from the goat kept the child alive. The goat, paid for by CAFOD, had been given to the family by CAFOD’s partner in the area, the Catholic Diocese of Maralal.

CAFOD’s manager for Nottingham, Marie Molloy said: “This Lent Fast Day we are continuing our focus on food and hunger by asking the Catholic community to be hungry for change – to fast and give alms to support people like Tabita from Kenya. Three years ago she lay close to death

“One in eight people in the world don’t have enough food for themselves and their families. It shouldn’t be this way so we’re asking people to do what theycan – fast, pray, and give money – to make a diff erence.”

As well as the Lent Appeal, CAFOD is also running the Hungry for Change Campaign, which looks at how the way food is grown, sold and shared out is not working for the world’s people. Zambia claim Chitalu, not Messi, holds goal record By Patrice Musarurwa

Barca’s Messi was credited with the new record after going better than German legend Gerd Mueller’s best of 85 goals in 1972 with a fi rst-half brace that sealed his side’s 2-1 win over Real Betis on Sunday. But Zambian researchers disagree.

“Godfrey Chitalu scored 49 goals in the league matches and 58 in cup and international matches between January 23 and December 10, 1972.

“The number of goals scored during this season goes to 107,” local commentator Musonda Chibulu told AFP.

Chibulu and fellow researcher Jerry Muchimba compiled their proof from daily newspapers Times of Zambia and the Zambia Daily Mail, as well as the national archives.The southern African nation’s football federation intend to try and get Chitalu’s tally ratifi ed by football’s governing body.

“We are planning to take the evidence to FIFA,” association spokesman Eric Mwanza said.

Chitalu died with the whole national football team when their airplane crashed off the coast of Gabon in 1993 on the way to a World Cup qualifi er in Senegal. He was head coach at the time.Messi’s record had already been contested on Wednesday by Brazilian club Flamengo who claimed their former player Zico scored 89 goals in the 1979 season. Messi added to his 2012 haul on Wednesday night with a brace in Barca’s Spanish Cup win over Cordoba putting the Argentine maestro on the 88 mark.

Armed Forces Day Funding Opportunity

Funding Opportunity has been availed to local groups

for help to Celebrate Armed Forces Day in Nottingham. Local groups are to be given two means of applying for

funding to put on their own events as part of the day. The funding will be available through: The Heritage Lottery

Fund - Grants between £3,000 and £10,000 through its Sharing Heritage and The Big Lottery Fund - Grants between £300 and £10,000 through Awards for All.

Charlie the donkey is set for his biggest

role yet – treading the boards at Ipswich’s

Regent Theatre.

Eighteen-year-old Charlie, already the star of several nativity plays and church services, came forward following a call for a donkey.

Sue Field, Charlie’s owner, fi lled out the application form explaining his likes and dislikes and acting career to date. “He is such a good donkey, he is independent, he is happy to go out and be on his own” Mrs Field said.

“He always rises to the occasion and everyone who meets him gets huge pleasure from him. He is worth his weight in gold.”

Mrs Field has eight donkeys at Rainbow Donkeys based in Leavenheath.

Carmen will be performed by the Moldovan National Opera and the Moldovan National Philharmonic Orchestra at the Regent Theatre as part of a 74-date tour of the UK and Ireland.

dog after her neighbour and swore at it

repeatedly has been ordered to pay £500

in compensation.

Hu Lin had fallen out with her neighbour, Wang Sun, after they butted heads over a building extension to his home six years ago.

‘To get her own back she named her dog Wang and then whenever she saw me she would start swearing and insulting the

dog using my name,’ Wang said during the proceedings at the courthouse in Gansu province, northern China.

The judge agreed Wu’s actions had caused Wang ‘mental anguish’ and punished her with a £500 fi ne and also told her to apologise. Dog ownership has become more common in China as average incomes have risen, as has the amount people in the country spend on their pets.

For the fi rst time, I was truly impressed by the progress in augmented technology having spent the last seven or so years watching launches of many non-starter augmented reality.

This technology integrates apps in the mobile phones and tablets and brings magazines and print items to life.

Niha and I were greatly impressed when we saw Trevor Coker bring NRG Fuel magazine to life. I am more convinced than ever before that augmented technology has great potential especially on advertising, shopping experiences, gaming, movies and in storytelling, more so in children’s books.

What is it?

Augmented reality (AR) is a radical piece of technology that that enables people to view real-life scenes in publications such as adverts, children’s book, games, posters and leafl ets via mobile device. In addition to viewing these real life scenes, it give off ers the user’s ability to interact with the scene by giving further information, contents and instructions on the device’s screen.

Trevor’s presentation showed us how contents of NRG Fuel magazine came to life. After downloading the AR app to the smartphone and in the tablet and pointing the camera to the images and adverts in the NRG Fuel magazine, items were virtually lifted from the magazine to the screen. It took us to videos, adverts, experiences with products and service users and interactions with advertisements.

This technology represents the future of how we use our mobile devices by bringing the physical and virtual worlds together for the fi rst time.

For example, by pointing at a black and white photos and the app colours them in. Pointing at profi le photo of an advertiser brings them talking and explaining about the product and how they use it. Pointing it at a children’s story book brings the story to life by reading aloud through the storyteller’s voice and possibly

watching characters in the story.Available on smart devices, AR was created out of technology

that is capable of recognizing images, symbols and objects in the real world and understanding them. It can then deliver digital content in real time, including videos, animations, audio or web pages.

Coker-Swinscoe Consultancy’s projects currently work on the iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPad 2, iPad3 and more powerful Android smart phones and tablets.

What can it do for us?Our greatest excitement is in how AR will be used in bringing

advertisements to life. AR will help us to give advertisers better and more fulfi lling experience in Mojatu magazine and other publications. Enabling readers of magazines and other print products to engage more fully with the contents is a major breakthrough for the print industry.

Using augmented reality in your marketing will increase visibility of your product or service. Once you see AR in action, you will be greatly impressed when you visualize how it could be used to really enhance a lot of static experiences by making them come alive. As it is cutting edge and new it creates a wow factor for your brand.

Examples of use could range from bringing a simple picture or poster to life, creating instructional videos by simply pointing your device at a product. This is enhanced further by linking the app to most of the common social media channels thus providing greater opportunities to share advertisers’ products and services online.

Do not take my word for it. You have to see how this works for you to truly appreciate how AR works. This will help you see the virtually limitless use that AR can be put into.

ACN is an extra pair of hands that complements the eff orts by the established African oriented groups.

For those who have dealt with many African businesses and groups in Nottingham, you realise the gaping gap and the dire need for support, especially those that off er specialist products and services.

Many individuals and organisations are doing a great job by raising awareness on issues aff ecting Africans. These individuals deserve the encouragement, support and appreciation from the community.

ACN plan is simple. Creation of a platform where any group or individual within Nottingham will be able to showcase what they do or can do for the community. There is a large number of Africans in Nottingham of diff erent races but with shared African interests and connections, both past and

present. These include marriage, family, friends, peer groups and acquaintances.

Nottingham also boasts of a sizeable number of active African students who belong to a variety of student groups due to the two great universities here. There is need to encourage these students to get involved in the wider African community in Nottingham.

Mr Michael Richard, an African student from Nottingham Trent University was shocked when he realised that lots of Africans live here after having spent the whole of his fi rst year wandering around Nottingham but could not fi nd any African community he could associate with. “Thanks to ACN now I have been able to meet lots of Africans and enjoyed many events and even had yams and Nigerian foods. I am part of the ACN which is active in looking around the wide African community for goods and services”, said Michael.

“Once in a while l needed some pounded yam or a place l could sit down for some African food but could fi nd none. I have found no adverts in the local papers for African shops, entertainment or cultural activities. It is quite sad and lonely here. I hope ACN will help address these weaknesses” said Miss Adimu Tafsiri of Nottingham University.

ACN has been active in facilitating active commitment from all stake holders to come out and showcase what they can off er to the community.

Achievements

In 2012, ACN donated blankets to Trinity children home in Kampala, Uganda. It partnered with Braai King Barbeque to off er delicious Sunday meals and exciting time for everyone in raising funds to support Trinity Home in Uganda. Braai King Sundays’ held throughout the summer also promoted social interaction and community cohesion and participation by bringing people together on Sunday afternoon.

Target groups

ACN would be delighted to hear from Africans of all walks within Nottingham.

“There is a huge academic and professional fraternity who live in Nottingham or visit here for short periods. It would be wonderful for them to share their events and welcome Africans in the city to take part. They can also visit African Community Centre at ACN offi ces in 164 Alfreton Road, Nottingham, NG7 3NS where we provide function hall, meeting rooms, hot desk and virtual offi ce service”, notes Bob Ilunga, a member of ACN.

ACN is also encouraging business people to seek synergy and further co-operation instead of destructive competition and individualism often found among most businesses. They should take advantage of the platform that has been set up by ACN for networking, sharing ideas, seeking advice and getting free or discounted support in all areas of business.

A women’s group has also been set up within ACN. It meets regularly to

discuss matters around the home, raising children, morale, upholding cultural values, relationships, etc. Youth are also encouraged to be proactive. The chairman, Wonderson, strongly believes in the energy of youth. He believes that youth need the community’s trust and backup so that they can be confident enough to pursue their goals. He has taken it upon himself to mentor a young musician, AR Mulah, who has taken Nottingham by storm with his Paperholics fame.

Group activities in 2012

The group has been very active since its inception and through the summer of 2012. Activities were announced through Kemet FM, BBC Radio Nottingham, Mojatu magazine, Mojatu.com, fl yers, texts, Facebook, twitter, twice and the old good word of mouth.

‘Braai King Sundays’ has become established among the faithful as social movement where families from across the African communities met for

barbeques, social interaction, dialogue and networking.

It was highly successful and allowed the group to raise money to buy blankets for Trinity orphanage in Kampala, Uganda. ACN also held its fi rst Christmas dinner dance and awards ceremony on 8 December 2012.

In line with its focus to promote and reward local businesses, investment and participation, ACN off ered certifi cates of recognition and appreciation on the night. These included those that accomplishing exceptional standards of community participation and have enhanced community cohesion.

ACN appreciates that its strength lies within its members. It is calling on more Africans to join ACN. It is providing a platform for all to make an eff ort, volunteer and contribute or just share your ideas on how best to off er mire value and support to African communities in Nottingham. The challenge remains: ‘What can you do for your community?’ It is a very satisfying experience take part and share the vision with ACN. We encourage you all to join us and make a diff erence.

Happy Jubilee Kenyans! I believe that it everybody’s

desire to experience this year of Jubilee for our Nation,

Kenya, with a positive diff erence. It is my prayer that we will

all experience a fulfi lled year in all that we will do.It is “the year of the Lord’s

favour”!!One thing that could

help us to do this eff ectively is to develop an attitude of being honest with ourselves.

The living Word of God off ers inexhaustible principles for a successful life, which are available to help us resist the demoralizing negativity

that prevents us from leading a fruitful life and reaching our goals.

One example is found in Philippians 3:12-21, where Paul faces his life realistically, and decides to deal with his present and his future.

In Phil. 3:13 Paul says:

“One thing I do, forgetting what is behind and straining towards what is ahead”.

Paul had experienced very hard times during his ministry. He had been imprisoned many times, he had been fl og matched severely, exposed to death again and again, he had been lashed, beaten up and also stoned. In fact he was in prison as he sent this message to the Philippians.

He lived in constant danger during his missionary journeys across the Roman Empire.

But one thing that Paul did was to choose to forget his negative experiences, and to press forward towards the goal that had been set before him, and resolved to win the prize that God had called him for. With this kind of attitude, Paul ended up writing more than half of the New Testament through great perseverance.

He resolved never to look back, and by choosing to press on, he grew in grace more and more. This was the secret of his successful ministry which has aff ected billions of people in the world today!

The point is, successful people don’t look back, they persist, they press on, they remain focussed on their goals, and they never stop pushing forward. It is important to be honest about your failures and misfortunes, but also be able to say...nevertheless, I will press on! You must always remember that you will never be in it alone, for he who watches over you neither sleeps nor does he slumber!

With this spirit, we will be able to capture a new vision in this

New Year, indeed our Kenyan Year of Jubilee, the year of the Lord’s favour! We will be able to set our goals, and graciously work towards them. We shall surely get there!

Paul would not allow the past to blur his vision. He chose to forget what was behind and to strain towards what was ahead...”towards the goal, to win a prize”

We cannot aff ord to live in the past. We must not be crippled by the memories of the past. We cannot move on with life if we stayed in the past. We can’t aff ord to live in regrets or self-pity. Another New Year—and with all the gloom-laden

headlines and personal or family experiences recently

you could be forgiven for greeting 2013 with less than

optimistic enthusiasm. It is “the year of the Lord’s

favour”!!It is too easy to forget

the energy of last year, but as it is often the case, looking back at those months is a great motivator and a good way of moving into the future.

Personally, the loss of my Dad just before Christmas was a great setback but instead of mourning, I chose to

celebrate his life because of the many positive things he ingrained in my life and will forever live by.

Like me, this is the time to build on those inspiring times and to keep the promises that you might have made yourself – to take up a new course, create more family time, change your job, start a business or fi nally do more for your community or church.

2013 is the year to change and improve one’s life - whether in a big or small way. My 2013 wish is to call for the optimist in all of us to be given space. Personally I have resolved to be more positive and energetic this year.

Consider adding these resolutions to your existing list to enhance your well-being thus promoting your health and wealth.

1. Smile when picking up the phone. The caller will hear it in your voice.

2. When you realise you’ve made a mistake, take immediate steps to correct it.

3. Spend some time alone.

4. Don’t let a little dispute injure a great friendship.

5. Remember the three R’s: Respect for self; Respect for others; and Responsibility for all your actions.

6. When you lose, don’t lose the lesson.

7. Remember that great love and great achievements involve great risk.

8. Talk slowly but think quickly

9. Don’t judge people by their relatives

10. When someone asks a question you don’t want to answer, smile and ask, ‘’why do you want to know’’

11. In disagreements, fi ght fairly. No name calling.

12. Love deeply and passionately. You might get hurt, but it’s the only way to live life completely.

13. Don’t laugh at anyone’s dreams. People who don’t have dreams don’t have much.

14. Be engaged at least six months before you get married. And marry a man/woman you love to talk to. As you get older, their conversational skills will be as important as any other.

15. Give people more than they expect t and do it cheerfully. And when you say ‘’I am sorry,’’ look the person in the eye.Remember, life is short. Break the rules so that you forgive quickly, love truly and laugh uncontrollably. As you do don’t forget, worry looks around, sorry looks back BUT faith looks up. I encourage you to look up.

Well. Firstly I don’t want this

to seem like I don’t respect the

boundaries of marriages, but as

amainini (girlfriend), this is my

point of view........

Ladies, we don’t intentionally go hunting for your husbands, we meet them every day like you meet people, through friends, at the supermarket, at work functions hell even on the side of the road. We don’t always know from the start that the man is married because a lot of these brothers don’t wear rings or come with a stamp saying “taken”. Half the time he is alone, there is no trace of you, even in his car.

It takes a well trained eye to sport traces of another woman, e.g seatbelt perfume, weave strands, hair oil on the headrest, etc. My job in your relationship is to give him a break from reality, yes you and the kids are real but so are the bills and school fees and work stress, I am where he de-stresses. I know my place; trust me I do, I know to keep quiet when you call while we are together, I know not to spend on his credit card but to ask for cash, all this is to protect you, yes you, from pain, humiliation and suff ering, I get a tired frustrated man and send you a well-rested happy man, thank me don’t disrespect me for it.

Calling me won’t change the fact that my clothes are

expensive and my car is paid off , it won’t change the fact that he grips my headboard when he rocks my world and screams like a girl, something you probably don’t even know about the man you married. Trust me the more you come after me the more he wants me, the more money he spends on me, the more intense our sex sessions get.

A true amainini like me will never ask him to leave you, instead she encourages him to stay with you for the rest of our lives. So relax, your kids are priority numero uno, even to us,

we pick out toys and clothes he shows up with, we encourage bonding time. Consider yourself lucky if you fi nd my number, at least you know he is taken care of when you are tired, and he will come right back once we are done re-furbishing my apartment.

Oh and trust me, I do the fi ghting for us, it’s my job to make sure it’s just us two, any others will be dealt with severely by me, so do not ruin your manicure, I get a weekly one so its ok, let me do it for us. I respect you, hence I stay away from family functions and make sure I take all my stuff out of the car when I was there, I do not call after he has left the offi ce because I know it’s your turn. I have my own things, the rest is just a bonus for having a kind and sharing attitude, I am a professional with a great job and do not have time for a fulltime relationship: YOURS AMAINI.
