n the olden days, when Jerusalem was to be rebuilt, the prophet, in

vision, heard one heavenly messenger saying to another, Run, speak to this

young man. And so, in these days, the young men and young women of the

advent movement have been given an important part to act in the closingdrama of earth's history.

We are to be Gods Helping hands in saving souls-channels which His love is day

by day to flow to the perishing. Be steadfast-Stand for the right principles though the

heavens fall, always abounding in the work of the Lord for your labor is not in vain.

The Lord has appointed the youth to be His helping hand.--

    Testimonies for the Church,

    Vol. VII, p. 64.

Fortunate is the man who starts out with his understanding of what matters most

in life. But life is worth nothing unless we use it in the service of God. Have we so

lived, that our Heavenly Father will dare to whisper: I have not died on the cross in

    vain.

With such an army of workers as our youth, rightly trained, might furnish, how

soon the message of a crucified, risen, and soon-coming Saviour might be carried to

    the whole world! --

Two shoe salespeople were sent to Africa to open up new markets. Three days after

arriving, one salesperson called the office and said, "Im returning on the next flight. Cant sell

shoes here. Everybody goes barefoot. At the same time the other salesperson sent an email tothe factory, telling "The prospects are unlimited. Nobody wears shoes here!" unknown.

Our prospects for heaven are unlimited. The harvest is great in MOISSA. and he

said to them, The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Therefore pray earnestly to the

Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.Luke 10:2. We have a good number of

youth in MOISSA but how many are laborers in the harvest? Let us therefore pray for these young

people that they may be trained because with such an army of workers as our youth, rightly

trained, might furnish, how soon the message of a crucified, risen, and soon-coming Savior might

be carried to the whole world! (Education, p. 271)

We have an underutilized army. No wonder many of our youth are slipping through the

church back door and are found in the market place of the worldly pleasures. It is our burden to

reclaim these youth. Unless we work for God, we are really doing nothing worthwhile on earth.About the eleventh hour (last days) he went out into the market place and found still others

standing around. He asked them, 'Why have you been standing here all day long doing nothing?

''No one has hired us,' they answered him. "He said to them, 'go and work in my vineyard. Matt

20:6, 7. How many of our young people are idle because they were not hired (trained) and

    challenged to work for God?

We are now at the eleventh hour and we do not want to be seen standing idle when

King Jesus the Saviors coming back. Worldly success and pleasures are only but a short time.

By faith Moses, when he had grown up, refused to be known as the son of Pharaohs daughter.

He chose to be mistreated along with the people of God rather than to enjoy the pleasures of sin

for a short time. Hebrews 11:24-25.

I invite the church leaders, parents and conference youth administrators to train and

challenged our young people and generously support their projects and re-launch the youth

ministry in every local church. Command those who are rich in this present world not to be

arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who

richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment. Command them to do good, to be rich in

good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share. In this way they will lay up treasure for

themselves as a firm foundation for the coming age, so that they may take hold of the life that is

    truly life. (1Tim 6:17-19)

As we work together, let us bear in mind that we are co-laborers with God and if God

be with us, who can be against us? Therefore my fellow young people, aim high, catch a visionand together with God and our Parents; let us build not a dream, but a reality. May we do it now!

    In His Service,

    MOISSA Adventist Youth Society Projects

    The 7 GLOBAL STRATEGIC THEMES & EMPHASES 2006 2010

developed by the General Conference Youth Ministry Department are

adopted by the MOISSA AYS as projects starting 2010 and onwards toreclaim our youth and re-launch our Youth Ministry.

    1. The MOISSA AYS in collaboration with The Center for Global

Evangelism, the Sabbath School/Personal Ministries department and

Adventist Laymens Services and Industries (ASI) will continue to finance,

inspire, involve and support the youth in the presentation of a full scale,

Christ-centered, doctrinal evangelistic series. This highly ambitious program

is known as the Elijah Project.

MOISSA Youth with the assistance of the local churches, will organize

themselves, receive training by the Youth and Personal Ministries directors,

be equipped and form evangelistic teams. The Elijah Projectis to affirm the

youth in their faith, and give them the opportunity to participate in a way that

will bring other young people to Christ and the church, as well as

    consolidate those in the church.

Budget: Estimated at 7,000 PhP (Transportation, Snacks, and logistics)

    Date: TBA

    2. The MOISSA Youth firmly believes that prayer is one of the most

powerful communication bond, with God that exist in the life of a Christian

and it must be reinforced, motivated and done more often.

-Youth groups, Adventurers, Pathfinders, and Ambassadors will hold

Prayer Conferences annually (hold week of prayer).

-Make young people rediscover the book of Psalms as Israels specialprayer book in the Old Testament. The psalms are prayers in the form of

songs. (hold music festival using scripture songs)

-Budget: - Handouts, snacks and logistics (Week of Prayer)

    Estimate: 2000 PhP

-Decoration, logistics and snacks (Music Festival) Estimate: 3000 PhP

    -Dates: TBA

*Budget may vary depending on local church AYS

    3. The General Conference Youth Ministries Department firmly believes in the need of facing the

challenge of looking for and reclaiming the lost. We have always been attentive to and cared

about young people that are born in families already in the church; but they are leaving the

church like water between our fingers. The Gospel of Luke, chapter 15, shows us how Christ, as

the Good Shepherd, looks for His lost sheep until it is found; while leaving the other 99 in a safe

    place.

-Create an extensive list of all the young people registered in your AYS group and find out who

is actually attending and who is not. If its not possible to get a complete list, use the names you

have and then ask the young people of your church for names and addresses of their friends

that used to come, but no longer attend church. Assign someone to work with the missing

    members when you make contact.

-Have an annual Re-Encounter program, spanning three months, culminating in a Homecoming

Sabbath celebration. Start a Prayer list for all inactive youth.

-Call young people who are not attending and invite them to social activities. Give them time to

decide. If you have called them once, twice or even three times and they do not respond do not

be discouraged, try again.-Start group visits. If possible have the meetings in the homes of the missing young people. The

pastor and the friends of the missing youth play a very important role in winning them back.

Invite friends to accompany you on these visits.

-Hold an annual District-wide Homecoming Sabbath where the whole program is specifically

arranged with the returning youth in mind. This should be held in all churches on the same date.

-Organize a Youth Mentoring program. Each returning young person should be linked with an

established believer who can encourage them. Prepare a Youth Mentoring Manual.

-Educate the church so that they can be friendly and warm towards the returning young

people. Allow the young people space to grow and develop in their Christian experience.

-Help returning young people to become involved in the life of the church. If possible link them

    with a youth small group.

Budget*: Social Night (snacks and prizes) 1000 PhP

Homecoming Sabbath (lunch) Estimate : 1000 PhP

    Dates: TBA

*Budget may vary depending on local church AYS

    4. The MOISSA AYS is aware of the necessity of a special training aimed at

our AY leaders. We believe that working with the youth is a marvelous

challenge, and an excellent opportunity for us to influence and lead youngpeople to a fuller and richer experience with Christ. We further believe that

provision should be made that will help train and equip our youth leaders to

deal with some of these challenges.

    -Conduct AY leaders training.

Budget: Handouts (500 per church): 4,500 PhP (9 churches)

    Date: On May if possible.

    8/48

    5. The General Conference Youth Ministries Department recognizes the challenge of

the huge presence of Adventist youth, and that the need to keep them both engaged

and spiritually alive is a top priority for youth ministry.

-Develop materials to assist Pastor and Youth Leaders as they minister to youth:Resources Pastors and Elders Handbook, Empowering Youth, AY Story and

    Pathfinder Story, Youth Ministry Handbook

-Encourage each church to establish Adventurer Club, Pathfinder Club, Ambassador

[club] and Young adult ministries to serve as discipleship centers for youth:

Resources Youth Leadership Award Manual, Ambassador Manual

-Encourage each local church to have their own library for youth.

    6. The General Conference Youth Ministries Department will work together with

administration, pastors, educators and ministers throughout the world church to

promote Youth Involvement in all aspects of church life.

-Make the document YouthFirst available to every administrator, pastor, educator,

    minister and youth leader.

-Church Administrators to provide opportunity for youth to be included as delegates tocommittees.

-Develop training programs for Youth Leadership development.

    - At all levels develop a talent bank of youth leaders/youth and their skills, interests

and abilities, then invite them to participate in services and other activities.

Budget: 500 per church (estimate 4,500 PhP for 9 churches) for books and printing.

Book Shelf (estimate 1,000-3,000 per church but depends on local AYS)

Date: ASAP on Books, TBA for Bookshelf.

    7. The General Conference Youth Ministries Department will embrace service as a way

for our youth to implement a consistent commitment to minister to the needs of others.

Young people in every church will be encouraged to share hope to the communities inwhich they live.

-Position Adventist Youth as a well known serving group of people in the community.

Serve others through a ministry of in-reach and out-reach evangelism.

-The church must accept the challenge of providing financial and other assistance to

help young people to carry out the ministry of helping others.

Budget and date depends on local church AYS.

Canjulao Holds Its Second Baccalaureate Serviceby Jennifer Canilao

Canjulao Graduating Students conducted their second Baccalaureate

Service and Tribute to Parents at Canjulao SDA Church last March 20,2010

with its theme: Ciel-Bondessez, a Spanish Translation of Heaven-Bound

with motto: The Knowledge of the Scripture is worth more than a College

    Education.

The entire Sabbath was exclusively sponsored by all graduating

students from college down to pre-school. During the Sabbath School

Program, the graduates performed a playlet entitledLife at Schoolwhichfeatured how students struggled to live out their faith in God so to speak the

challenges they are facing in their everyday life at school.

The said event was graced by the presence of our MOISSA District

Leader Pastor Romeo Illustrisimo, who delivered his godly message to the

graduates. He emphasized the steps to the ladder of success.First,

knowledge of the scripture is the foundation of all the knowledge which will

enable us to become a better and successful individual. Second, to be great

and successful, one should recognize God as the wellspring of blessings andsource of everything. He also apportioned to the graduates his views and

outlook regarding success in profession based on Biblical Principles.

At 4:00 pm, the program continued by giving acknowledgement to

parents and guardians who in one way or another have the biggest influence

of what the graduates have become and accomplished. All graduates sang

melodiously as they gave their deepest and warmest thanks to their parents.

The program was followed by reading the letters of Wishes and Thanks from

the graduates to their parents. It was narrated by the amiable and enthusiasticpeerage who called themselves D Chorus. Strong feelings of emotion burst

out into tears which shattered the sentiments of the whole congregation. The

graduates letters touched the parents heart deeply that reached far into the

core part of their senses. It was the moment of mixed feelings. Parents were

so overwhelmed with the love that their children have demonstrated. The

program ended with misty-eyes and happiness among parents and brethren.

August 21-23, 2009 is the date to be etched in the history of Canjulao Church.

The Canjulao pathfinder club held a camp out for the little leaders who will hugely

lead someday. The camping was held at the exquisite site of Canjulao Church. All

pathfinder campers manifested great joy and excitement as they pitched their tents

and prepared dinner but oh! where are the knives and chopping boards? Nabilin sabalay EXCITED man gud! Nevertheless it never hindered us from having a very

    delicious meal.

The sun set, and it was time for the scheduled evening activities when

disruptions started. The tiny raindrops fell, and turned into heavy rain. It is indeed

good to check the weather forecast, one camper sighed. All of us were unprepared

because we did not expect it to happen that night. The big problem was that the

water eventually satiated our tents which caused our baggage, wet. Some of the

campers evacuated the campsite and went to the church which is just a walking

distance from the site. Our Pathfinder leader told us to pray for a clear and dryevening the next day. And sure enough when the next day came, God answered

our prayers with a sign of a rainbow.

When we were instructed how to prepare our breakfast, Nakaka schocking kaayo

ang gulay gipabukal lang ug gibutangan ug asin kan-on na dayoneveryone was

shock because it was their first time to ate such simple meal. During the evening we

were able to enjoy the rainless night with social party. It was so much fun.

Uber afoy ayo oi (Over kapoy kayo oi) that is why some of the campers spent

their AY program sleeping. Others were doing their banners and practiced the

different types of knot tying and pancake flipping. That was indeed, a very exciting, knowledge loaded and fun filled activity.

Campers Comments and Testimonials:Marjorie : Happy ko kay daghan ko ug nakat-unan ug lingaw pod.

    Letters to Young Lovers

    by

    Ellen G. White

Our Heavenly Father is concerned over our love-life. Through the inspired

writings of scripture and of Ellen G. White, God has given counsels toyoung people in their quest for happiness.

    1. Marriage -- a Foretaste of Heaven

The warmth of true friendship and the love that binds the hearts of

husband and wife are a foretaste of heaven.

God has ordained that there should be perfect love and perfect harmony

between those who enter into the marriage relation.

    2. Finding the Right Mate

Be PracticalBefore assuming the responsibilities involved in marriage, young men and

young women should have such an experience in practical life as will

prepare them for its duties and its burdens.

Since both men and women have a part in homemaking, boys as well as

girls should gain a knowledge of household duties.

    3. Is It Really Love?

    Is it True Love?

True love is a high and holy principle, altogether different in character from

that love which is awakened by impulse and which suddenly dies when

    severely tested.

    Love, A Tender Plant

Love is a plant of heavenly growth, and it must be fostered and nourished.

Affectionate hearts, truthful, loving words, will make happy families and

exert an elevating influence upon all who come within the sphere of their

    influence.

When real life comes in with its troubles and cares, they are wholly

unprepared to meet them. They expect in each other perfection, but find

weakness and defects; for finite men and women are not faultless. Then

they begin to find fault with each other, and to express their

disappointment. Instead of this, they should try to help each other, and

should seek practical godliness to help them to fight the battle of life

    valiantly.

"Love knows no limit to its endurance, no end to its trust, no fading of its

hope; it can outlast anything. It is, in fact, the one thing that still stands

when all else has fallen" (1 Corinthians 13: 4-8 Phillips)

    Last April 1 4, 2010; the L.A.M.B (Lapu-lapu Adventist Mountaineers and

Bikers) headed by Engr. Lito Caro, went to conquer the well acclaimed Mt.

Talinis at Dumaguete City. The group composed of 11 guys and 9 gals, most of

which are first time climbers. We left Lapu-Lapu City on March 30, 2010 at 9 inthe morning to the port of Liloan Santander.

The group spent the first night at Camabe bunk house, the official

campsite for climbers. On Thursday, Apirl 1, the group started their ascent

around 8 in the morning which took us 4 hrs to reach the first pit stop. We had

our break at Yagumyum lake , a stagnant lake but has an awesome view which

reminded us of Gods handiwork. Afterwards the group walked another 4 hours to

reach the campsite Nailig lake, which is situated in the middle of the towering

mountains for a night slumber. The lake served as our water source. When night

came, the place was covered by a thick fog which made us hardly see thesurroundings.

April 2 another day of walking, the group left Nailig camp around 9 am to

go to the next camp site which took us 4 more hours of walking and sliding since

the trail was going down and arrived at the campsite known as the Ranch, where

we immediately went swimming in the fresh and cool water of the twin falls. After

the tiring walk, we took some time to thank God during the vesper worship which

was led by yours truly. April 3, after the morning worship the group left the camp

to continue their journey... going home, which took us another 5 hrs before

arriving at the pick-up point. The group went home full of different experiences, stories and tales to tell but most importantly they were able to see Gods beautiful

creation and how wonderful the world is. Till next year!!! come one come all!!!

Central Visayan Conference Pathfinder Bible Achievementby Vivitzgrace T. Resabal

November 14, 2009 marked the 4th Pathfinder Bible Achievement (PBA)

held at Maguikay SDA church, which was participated by a huge number of

individuals from the four participating church-based Pathfinder clubs, namely

Basak, Canjulao, Cordova and Maguikay. From the said participating clubs, there were 6 Adventurer teams, 7 Pathfinder teams and 7 Master Guide teams

who took part in the challenge of answering the questions from the selected SDA

Fundamental Doctrines that have been assigned to them. The event was graced

by the presence of our ever supportive CPUC Youth Director, Pastor Jezreel

Lucop, who opened the event by giving a very inspiring message to everyone.

Furthermore, the program will not be complete without the presence of our

District Leader, Pastor Romeo Illustrisimo, who showed support by acting as one

    of the board of judges.

Although Pastor Don Barcenas, NCCDAC district leader, was not around, he never missed the

event by sending his wife, Mrs. Bebelita Barcenas. Moreover, a guest team from Humay-humay PF

club joined the fun and excitement of this annual event.

PBA is an event open to all pathfinder clubs which was developed in 1987 by Elder Terry

Dodge, who was at the time was pastor of the 7th-day Adventist church in Sheridan, Wyoming. This

is an annual event, wherein each year, the pathfinders will study a certain book or section of theBible. Since they will be working together as a team, they will experience teamwork and fun while

studying the Bible. In 2007, Cordova Masterguide Club adopted this program and opened it to both

Adventurers (ages 6-9) and Pathfinders (ages 10-15) but still carried the title of the program, which

is Pathfinder Bible Achievement. Consequently, the first PBA was held at Maguikay Church last

November 10, 2007. The program was a success. Thus in the following year (2008), the organizers

endeavored to conduct it twice a year.

    17

    19/48

Thus, the 2nd and 3rd PBA was conducted last May 24, 2008 & November

15, 2008 respectively. Furthermore, due to the request of the young people, it

was in the 3rd PBA when the organizers decided to add another category for

the Master Guides ages 16-25. However, due to some budget constraints, in

2009 the organizers decided to run the PBA, just once a year.

MOISSA Youth Society: A Call for Service

    News and Updatesby Jasper Mantos

    The church is languishing

for the help of young menwho will bear a courageous

    testimony, who will with

their ardent zeal stir up the

    sluggish energies of Gods

people, and so increase thepower of the church in the

    world

(Message to Young People, p. 25).

    The First Encounter:

It was last March 20, 2010 at Canjulao

Church about 2:00 P.M. that the zealous youngpeople of MOISSA met. The thought of having a

few attendees was turned into a

misapprehension, when 40 active young men

and women arrived severally. The attendance

was comprised of A.Y. leaders and Youth

Elders who are ready for the call of service.

Aside from the young people who are

enthusiastic to take part, the meeting was also

graced by the presence of Pastor RomeoIllustrisimo (MOISSA District Pastor) and some

Elders of Canjulao church. The following are the

agenda that were discussed during the meeting:

    1. Nomination of Officers, 2. MOISSA AYS

Regular Meetings, 3. Source of Funds and

    4.Leadership Training Seminar.

Regular meeting is held bimonthly, third Saturday at 2.P.M. to 4 P.M. The

venue depends upon the Chairmans prerogative. The body agreed that eachchurch will contribute a fixed amount every month as a means of raising funds.

The Leadership Training is on the stage of planning. It will be scheduled after

    the association.

    The First EXECOM Meeting:

The first Executive Committee Meeting was held last March 26, 2010 at Enjoy

Learning Center (ELC) SDA Church; 7:00 oclock in the evening. There were

17 officers and selected invitees present. The following were the agendadiscussed during the meeting: 1. Induction of Officers 2. Amendmenst and

Approval of the Minutes of the Meeting 3. Leadership Training, 4. Youth Camp

in Olanggo during the Association and 5. MOISSA Youth Society Newsletter.

The Induction of Officers will be taken place in Olanggo Church during the

association on April 24, 2010. There were minor amendments of the Minutes of

the Meeting and so it was voted and carried. Suggestions and discussions

were accommodated regarding the Leadership Training but the date has not

decided yet due to several considerations.

A youth camp will be organized this association in Olanggo , which will

start from Friday and ends on Sunday. MOISSA Youth Society will be distributing

its official newsletter spearheaded by Ms. Grace Hornales an active youth leader

    of Canjulao Church.

    The Second EXECOM Meeting;

The second Executive Committee Meeting was held last April 16, 2010

at Enjoy Learning Center (ELC) SDA Church at about 7:00 P.M. There were 25

officers together with invitees. The following were discussed during the meeting

    1. MOISSA AYS Association Program and 2. MOISSA AYS Newsletter.

The meeting adjourned at 9:00 in the evening with a picture taking.

They [the youth] can form themselves into bands to do Christian help work. .

. .They will find many opportunities to use the talent that God has given them in

carrying melody and sunshine into many lonely places darkened by sorrow and

affliction, singing to those who seldom have church privileges (Counsels to

    Teachers, p. 547).

    20

The enemy will not prevail against youth who are actively engaged in the things of

    God.

That the youth may work for:

    Other youth

    Their church

    Their fellow men

This triple purpose that God has outlined for His youth is really the second part of

the objective presented in a practical sense: Guide into Service. From the time

youth missionary work first began, this triple purpose has been put into

practice. The goal is to save each Adventist youth who faces the battle against

sin, striving to rescue more and more souls for the kingdom of God. In 1947 the

dynamic slogan Share your Faith brought new emphasis to soul-winning around

the world. That the youth may work for other youth. Educate the youth to help the youth; and

in seeking to do this work each will gain experience that will qualify him to become

a consecrated worker in a larger sphere (Messages to Young People, p. 208).

Several Pathfinders, Master Guides and MG Trainees from

Basak, Canjulao, Cordova, Maguikay, Cebu and Humay-Humay convened last

October 16-18, 2009 in Camp Marina Boy Scouts Grounds, Capitol Hills for the

Pathfinder Leadership Conference 2009 with a theme Keep the Flame Alive. This

conference aimed at giving basic staff training to the campers to prepare them to

become effective pathfinder leaders in their respective churches and to help them

understand the difference between school based and church based Pathfindering.

No less than the CPUC Youth director, Pastor Jezreel Locop,

gave the message during the opening night on Friday, October 16. On Sabbath

morning at 4:30am, camp deputy directors MG Grace Hornales, MG Jovelyn

Bontoyan, MG Adelyn Padilla and MG Jenevic Canilao, led the campers to a small

hill, a little bit away from the camp site for the morning devotional. The dawn

worship was sponsored by the Maguikay campers.

After all of the campers were energized in the Song, Drama and

Nature Hike led by the deputy directors, Pastor Romy Illustrisimo, MOISSA district

leader, enlightened them with the summary of the Sabbath School lesson.

Moreover, Dr Isaias Guisando, CVC Education Director, discussed about the Club

Discipline and Pastor Jun Samson, CVC Youth Director, discussed about the AY

Ministry. After all the lectures, a dynamic open forum entitled Lets Talk followed,

which was moderated by MG Miraflor Matugas and MG Genevic Canilao. It was

the best time when all the campers were able to voice out their concerns on issues

related to leading their fellow young people in the church.

MGT Virjie Hornales demonstrated Puto Making, MG Willie JoyJumawid also showed how to make an inexpensive ultra light camp stove and MG

Adilyn Padilla demonstrated how to make a camp pancake.

MG Lito Caro lectured on Backpacking to give the campers some fundamental

ideas on how to prepare a backpack for an outdoor activity (e.g hiking, mountain

    climbing, camping).

After the team building activities, nobody dared to miss the wall

rapelling adventure which was really an exciting but high-risk activity. But praise

God, nobody got hurt in it. Even the oldest among the Master Guides, MG Jean

Sarong successfully hurdled this challenge. In addition, the Slide for Life wasequally thrilling. And these activities were really made possible with the help of MG

Lito Caro who patiently took the lead and generously shared all of his equipment.

Concurrently, some of the campers also went swimming in the

pool with MG Willy Joy Jumawid giving them some basic tips on swimming.

Finally, the camp was called to a break at around 3pm by MG Benjie Hornales.

And all the praises and glory be unto our Almighty God for the success of this

    Pathfinder Conference. Until next!

YOU FIND IT HARD TO SLEEP AT NIGHT

YOU THINK OF HIM AND THE PAST

    My Friend

My Friend, I stand in the judgment now

And I feel that you are to be blame somehow,

On earth I walk with you day by day,

Never, never did you point the way!

You know the Lord in truth and glory

But never did you tell me the story

My knowledge then of God was very dim,

You could have led me safely to Him

Though we live together on earth

You never told me the second birth

And now I stand here condemned

Because you failed to mention Him.

You taught me many things thats true

I called you my friend and I trusted you.

But I learn now that its too late,

You could have save me from this lake.

We walked by day and we talked by night

And yet you showed me not the light.

You let me live and love and die,

And yet you knew Ill never live on high.

I called you my friend in lifeI trusted you through joy and strife

Uncaring that I fall into this horrible lake

Must I still call you My Friend?

Why , oh! why? Were you ashamed to tell me

That Jesus Christ is the way to heaven and eternal life?

You discussed with me so many subjects under the sun

But the thing I needed to know you failed to tell me?

Now, as I suffer the ignominy and pain of hell-fire

You are up there with Father Abraham

Healthy Lifestyle to the Max: Summitby Margie H. Varga

April 9 to 11 , 2010, Cebu Visayan Conference and Central Philippine Union

Conference Health Department, with the leadership of Pastor Lemuel Escamos and

Pastor Charles Nogra, in cooperation with the Department of Health, successfully

launched a HEALTHY LIFESTYLE to the MAX SUMMIT at the East VisayanAcademy Gymnasium which was participated by more than 300 delegates coming

from Cebu and neighboring islands and 50 young volunteers from different churches

who tremendously took part in assisting the food preparation under the supervision

of the HELP President, Cecile Yap, who had tendered her active participation in this

event. These Young volunteers are Master Guides coming from Canjulao Church

predominately, and others from Maguikay and Humay-humay churches.

A series of Health Lectures was imparted to us from a renowned Health

Crusaders around the Philippines spearheaded by Dr. Tam Mateo of ABS-CBN

Salamat Doc together with Mr. Pacifico Eresmas and company. We were blessed

with a very inspiring information about how Vitamin C works in our body by a

recognized Filipino Scientist and a Professor of Biochemistry at Mountain View

    College, Dr. Jose Oclarit.

The Summit started with a Medical Mission: Operation Tuli and Medical Check

ups and ended with a pap smear procedure, with the participation of the Physicians

and Nurses from our very own H.W. Miller Memorial Sanitarium and Hospital.

This seminar was made, in giving new impetus towards healthy lifestyle among

the Seventh-Day Adventist Church members who profess to be the healthiest

people on earth. The question is, Are we really true to what we eat?. Hopefully thismade us realize that our body is the temple of God of which we must give an extra

care. With this horrifying yet very informative lectures from our Health Crusaders, it

is our earnest prayer that we may feed our body the food which God has designed

    for us.

Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord,

plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and

    future.

After I graduated from college, I asked myself, What should I do with

my life?, Wondering which road to take? Then, I remembered the promise in

Jeremiah 29:11 and realized Gods plan in my life. Ephesians 2:7 simply

explains that He wants to pour out His far and beyond favor on me. I find

courage to do more, to do bigger and serve the Most High because He

promises that His dream for my life is much bigger and better than I can

    imagine.

I started applying for a job and was happy to land one, yet the

orientation falls on Sabbath Day. The principal couldnt excuse me so I talked

to the president of the school and told him that I am a Seventh - day Adventist

and explained to him that Saturday is a special day because it is holy. I told

him that it is a big NO for me to work on Saturday. He did not consider my

belief and told me that I cannot attain success for what I am standing for. I

declined the job and I cast all my worries upon Him. I do not want to exchange

my Sabbath for anything else and I do not want to break my special

relationship to God. I talked to God and hold my faith on Him and claimed His

promise in Jeremiah 29:11. A week after, another school called me for an

interview and hired me without compromising my Sabbath. A couple of yearspassed, my friend, Vivitz Resabal (ate vitz), my classmate in Cordova Master

Guide training program, invited me to sing to her cousins evangelistic meeting

in Dumaguete for weekends. I met her cousin, Girlie Zunega, a missionary in

Korea for three years. I met her again circumstantially, in Tagaytay City and

both of us that time were teaching ESL in different schools. Several months

after, I got a call for an interview from Saipan SDA School where Girlie Zunega

got a job there after teaching ESL . Fortunately, their school was looking for a

teacher and Ate Vitz and Kuya Luna Casio, an accountant of CPUC

recommended me to Girlie. I was considered for the job and got a slot. I dontknow about Saipan then and when I looked at the map it is just a small dot.

Saipan is an island of US territory; it is an island of the thieves; a historical

island. When I arrived in Saipan, I saw a big mission for me. We have four

churches, a Korean Church, Central Church, Filipino Church and Local

Church. Local Church is a church where the people from the island worship.

They speak 2 dialects: Chamorro and Carolinian. Some of them are kinky hair,

short and chew betel nut and spit all the time.

there are only few of us youth who are active in the church activities and most of

us are working in school. We dedicate our lives to God. We allow Him to use us in

His work and we use our talents in His service. We pray to God to give us strength

as we work together in the island. We do House visitation, Bible study, sing songs

and pray for them, branch Sabbath School, health expo, hospital visitation and

evangelistic meetings. We experienced public shooting and people were dead and

injured, stealing and breaking (akyat-bahay) of the houses in the teacherscompound. Teachers laptops were stolen except mine and Girlies. One of our

teachers got physical harassed and almost got killed.

Despite of the challenges, we still claim the promise of God in Romans 8:31-

    39. He is bigger than all our problems; bigger than all of our fears; bigger than any

mountain that we can see; bigger than all our questions and bigger than anything

else in this world. Indeed, Our God is an awesome God! Praise God! Saipan has

2 pathfinder clubs now with 21 members in Central Church and 15 members in

Local Church. We meet every Sunday for Pathfinder drilling and in gaining honors.

We have afternoon outreach every Sabbath, Bible achievement and amazing factsadventures for kids evangelistic meeting. God is so wonderful! He has a great

love for us. He is with us from day to day and He is our constant friend. We have to

trust and serve Him fully. Lets keep our eyes looking unto Him and hasten His

work for Jesus is coming very soon! A lot of youth are actively participating in

every church activity. As I look back, I remembered all my thoughts after I

graduated in college. This is what I want in my life. God led me to this road. I am

on the mission for Christ. We also have the Life's purpose mission and that is "To

reach out and prepare ourselves and others for eternal life". Jesus is the Only

Way. Always remember that God is already there. Wherever you are and wherever

you are. He is right there beside you seeing and knowing. He already knows

whats behind, now, and lies ahead of us. Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans I

have for you, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope

and a future. Our God is an awesome God!!!!

This is a survey conducted among SDA young people regarding the

observance of Sabbath and their Conviction towards this long been steppedissuelisten as they SPEAKS!

The QUESTION: If you have classes, exams, work and other endeavorswhich falls on the Sabbath Day would you go for it or stand for yourfaith?

    The ANSWERS:

No. Because Sabbath day is the most important day of the week. It reminds

us of our Creator who created the world and this is the special day where

we can worship Him and have fellowship with our brethren.

    ---Julimar Repolidon,18

I will prefer to go to church because it's more important compared to the activities in

school. Even though I will miss that certain activity in school, Il make it up to myself by

praising God , growing and enhancing my faith in Him physically, mentally, socially and

    spiritually.

    ---Geraldine Repolidon,16

I don't go to school during Sabbath Days since when I was in elementary and until

    I graduated in High School.

    ---Junalyn Saniban,18

No. Because I know what Sabbath is and one thing, my parents won't permit me for they know

that Sabbath is a holy day.

    ---Mae Ann Piquero,13

No. Because the knowledge of every person comes from God even theknowledge of my teachers so it would be great spending the Sabbath withthe Giver of it. I always go to church every Saturday even if we haveregular classes.

    ---Elma Grace Soco, 13

When my boss told me to report for work on Saturday, unwaveringly I said NO. It is the most

sacred day for me and my God.

How to Raise a Vegan Child

Most families have been raised to incorporate

meat into everyday meals. This increasedadaptation to a meaty diet raises multiple health

concerns like heart conditions, high blood

pressure and many others. In order to curb this

trend, teaching kids to eat vegetables is a must.

Here are some tips how to raise a vegan child.

    Start them Young

Starting kids at a very young age lets them appreciate a vegan diet leadingthem to embrace the vegan lifestyle even when they grow old.

    Share your Appetite for Life

Kids dislike the taste of vegetables mainly because they emulate how their

parents dislike it. Showing them by example that you like vegetables, they too

will share your appetite for life.

    Reinforced Positivity

Reward your children and acknowledge their vegan efforts to uplift the image ofeating vegetables and the ideals of a vegan lifestyle.

Personal Story of Raising Vegan Kids

Mrs. Aida Mateo Mother of 2

I was raised in a Chinese family where the table is wet with five to six viands

per meal, excluding our merienda. When I went to the United States and met

my husband, Dr. Tam we have been engrossed with our work and business,

that had to be finished each day, we didnt have time to cook our own food. So

we would eat out in restaurants. Our business succeeded, but my healthsuffered. I was stricken with cancer.

My heart fell when I found out about my case. It was then that we turned to our

Great Healer. I prayed for help. The Lord answered as my husband became

the First Filipino Naturopathic Doctor. We followed the Lords way of healing

the Natural way. And by Gods grace, I survived. After the miracles, I vowed to

serve the Lord. And the Lord gave me a bonus my two lovely daughters. But

for now, this isnt about my healing it is about the gift entrusted to mothers

from heaven, how I raised my kids Vegan!

My youngest Tammy eats raw salad and so as not to adulterate her taste,

we do not add any unnecessary salt, sugar or oil in her diet. We also

abstain from eating rice or bread. Instead, she eats saba (A variety of

banana), camote (sweet potato), or corn, When we go out I bring all our

food to make sure that all she eats are natural. Ive raised them early on a

vegan diet, because I myself am a vegan. I explain to my children, the

benefits of having this kind of diet, so when they are with different people, they will not be tempted to stray from natural food.

Parents should start this practice and set an example for their children to

follow. You must eat healthy and natural food, so you can motivate your

children to do the same. If ampalaya (bitter melon) is bitter to your taste,

eat it like its the best tasting vegetable around and show them you liked it.

Our children will enjoy eating what you, as parents, like to eat.

April 2009, I went to my Doctor at Perpetual Succor Hospital in Cebu City because I felt

a pain in my ankle, I was weak and I was gasping for air! I knew I was obese but I didn't

bother to know how much I weighed. In the clinic, I was so shocked to find out that I weighed

187 pounds! My Doctor told me to have my cholesterol level and blood sugar tested at High

    Precision.

The results made me to decide that I really had to change my lifestyle if I wanted to live

longer! I was so afraid. I ask my husband Ramon what I will do because, I was so afraid of

my health! He told me do something! This was when I became suspicious and jealous, I

felt insecure. Then I prayed day and night asking help from Jesus Christ. A few days

later, I read an ad in the newspaper about a Slimming Center that provided services for a big

price. I was hesitant to try because it was too expensive but when I thought about it, I wanted

it. I asked my husband if it was the right thing to do and he said to try it. After 5 sessions I

complained because I only lost 1 pound. They said maybe I didn't follow their diet program or

exercise. The supervisor told me to eat match box sizes of any viand and 1/2 cup rice and

only a small slice of dessert. I followed their menu and they also told me to detoxify

myself. After that, still nothing happened because after the session I felt hungry!

My prayers were answered when somebody called me a few weeks later about a

Wellness program. I was hesitant to join because I was already attending that weight loss

program in the slimming center. For me it is always an honor to be invited, I attended the

seminar and we were also trained to become Medical Missionaries. Everybody wasshocked with the result when I religiously followed the Program, after five days I lost 5 lbs.

and at present I continue shedding the pounds, I am so happy with the result!

This is what you will achieve if you CALL ME NOW to avail my Healthy Lifestyle

Services. If, you don't want to loss weight, you will become Healthy and have a strong

body FREE from any diseases and if you are sick now, just try and believe, it will be

Outreach MissionDo you want your youth group to be visible in the community?

Experience the transformation that comes from reaching out to others. Watch your

young people grow in their relationship with God through sharing Gods love with

others. See that love overflow into families, friends, neighbors, and yes...the world!

"Jesus, undeterred, went right ahead and gave his charge: "God authorized and

commanded me to commission you: Go out and train everyone you meet, far and

near, in this way of life, marking them by baptism in the threefold name: Father,

Son, and Holy Spirit. Then instruct them in the practice of all I have commanded

you. I'll be with you as you do this, day after day after day, right up to the end of the

    age." --Matthew 28:18-20 (The Message)

The Objective of the Adventist YouthTo save from sin and guide into service: this true and only motive, so complete

and impressive, was adopted during the 1926 General Conference session. To

obtain the salvation of the youth it is necessary to give them every possible

opportunity to participate in all Adventist youth activities. By keeping youth actively

preparing for more efficient service, they are protected from evil. It is necessary to

place them in some activity as soon as they are ready. Seeking the good of others

is the way in which true happiness can be found (Counsels on Stewardship, p. 24).
