From the Director's Desk

Talent. Defined as:

1. Natural ability to do something well, espe-

cially in artistic areas that can be developed

by training.

2. Somebody with exceptional ability.

Variety. Defined as:

1. A collection of diversified things.

2. Entertainment made up of different acts.

Whether you consider your self as the “talent”

or “variety”, the more the merrier. We have

almost a dozen acts lined up for our talent

show so far including a high school tap dancer,

senior tap dancers, story tellers, ukulele player,

singers, ballroom dancers, cellist, pianist, etc.

But you need not perform to come—we want

an audience too! Last year’s show had the

crowd in stitches. We have more member’s

grandchildren lined up to entertain this year.

We promise you an enjoyable evening, and if

you have dinner with us, we promise you’ll be

happy with that too!

Switching gears, summer tends to be a time for

us to “catch up” on all that has happened so

far this year and to start planning for next.

I’ve purchased the 2013 calendar, now I just

need to fill it up. And most of you know, that

is never a problem.

Now is the time to reach out to me with

program ideas, trip interests, and

entertainment referrals. Stop by to see me

with your ideas to make the rest of 2012 and

all of 2013 full of talent and variety!

2012 Income Tax Season recap

Another year of taxes are behind us and we

look back to an other successful tax season.

Amazingly, we have seen a 300% increase in

the number of clients served since 2007. In

2012, we served a total of 903 clients, 20%

being new to our program. Our volunteers

logged a total of 1600 hours doing 1500 total

returns with a 99% accuracy level. Our team

ranked 6 out of 136 e-file sites in PA. Finally,

our donations topped $4,000 making this the

2012 tax season our best ever. This

worthwhile community service is possible

because of the donation of time and space of

the Mohler Center and the donation of time

and expertise of the tax volunteers. What a

great team!

Hershey Bridge Club

“A Night of Laughs” a huge success

If you heard a noise coming from the Mohler

Center on the evening of Friday, May 18 we

can bet it was the 100+ audience member

enjoying the music and comedic prowess of

Seamus Kennedy. The event went off without

a hitch thanks our staff and volunteers.

Special thanks to Alexa Glenn, Bonnie Miller,

and Millie Collins. Mohler Members Charles

and Brenda Berman generously sponsored the

event and their donation helped us to make

$1,800 on this Spring fund raiser.

Mohler Travel

Dead Sea Scrolls at Franklin Institute

Wednesday, September 12 In 1947, a hidden cave along the shore of the Dead Sea was discuvered. Concealed inside

were ancient scrolls that had not been seen for 2,000 years. After extensive excavation, the

Dead Sea Scrolls were unearthed, called the most significant archaeological find of the last

century. The Franklin Institute's Dead Sea Scrolls: Life and Faith in Ancient Times

exhibit presents one of the most comprehensive collections of ancient artifacts from Is-

rael ever organized, featuring a total of twenty scrolls, including the oldest known copies

of the Hebrew Bible and four never-before-seen scrolls. With more than 600 items on

display, visitors will experience firsthand the traditions, beliefs and iconic objects from

everyday life, more than 2000 years ago. Following our visit to Franklin Institute, we will

enjoy a deluxe luncheon and end our day with a visit to Independence Hall, the birthplace

of The Declaration of Independence and The Constitution. Motorcoach transportation

departs Mohler Center at 7:00 AM and returns home by 7:00 PM. Cost of the trip is

$125.00 per person. Registration is required by August 10.

Sister Act on Broadway

Wednesday, November 14 Looking for some comic-relief before the holidays descend upon us? Join Mohler Center

as we travel to Broadway to see the hilarious musical comedy, based on the award

winning movie staring Whoopi Goldberg. When a disco singer is placed in protective

custody at a convent, her unique blend of funk comes face to face with the traditions of

the church. We depart Mohler Center at 7:00 AM, enjoy lunch at the world famous

Carmines, and then enjoy the show. We arrive home around 10:00 PM. Tickets are $200

and registration is required by August 17.

NYC Day On Your Own

Wednesday, November 14 Depart Mohler Center at 7:00 AM on route to The Big Apple. Motorcoach will drop you

at Times Square at 11:00 AM and will pick you up at 5:00 PM. The rest of the day is

yours to plan and enjoy. Cost is $55.00 and registration is required by August 17.
