Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi

Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi (2 October 1869 30 January 1948), commonly known as Mahatma Gandhi, was the preminent leader of Indian nationalism in British-ruled India. Employing non-violent civil disobedience, Gandhi led India to independence and inspired movements for non-violence, civil rights and freedom across the world.Mohandas Gandhi is considered the father of the Indian independence movement. He spent twenty years in South Africa working to fight discrimination. It was there that he created his concept of satyagraha, a non-violent way of protesting against injustices. While in India, Gandhi's obvious virtue, simplistic lifestyle, and minimal dress endeared him to the people. He spent his remaining years working diligently to both remove British rule from India as well as to better the lives of India's poorest classes. Many civil rights leaders, including Martin Luther King Jr, used Gandhi's concept of non-violent protest as a model for their own struggles.

My favourite Gandhis quotes..

I want freedom for the full expression of my personality.Happiness is when what you think, what you say, and what you do are in harmony.Whatever you do will be insignificant, but it is very important that you do it.I object to violence because when it appears to do good, the good is only temporary; the evil it does is permanent.I believe that Gandhi was right. I like very much his quotes and I love the first quote more than the other three because I think that Ganhdi wants to teach us that freedom is an inviolable right...and without it life has no meaning!!!!

I believe thatW Gandhi!
