Childhood

Bill Gates was born on October 28, 1955 In Seattle, Washington. He spent hours reading reference books and the encyclopedia. At the age of 11 his parents were worried about his behavior. He did good at school but he seemed bored sometimes. So at the age of 13 his parents transferred him to a private school in Seattle called Lakeside School.

At Lakeside Bill Gates Did great in almost all the subjects the school had. At Lakeside, a computer company in Seattle asked to give computer time for students at the school. Bill Gates was very interested in the computer and would spend every free time he had in the computer room. At Lakeside Bill Gates met Paul Allen. Bill Gates and Paul Allen loved the computer and both of them worked in the computer room.

Traf-O-Data

When Bill Gates was 13, him and Paul Allen went to business together. They made Traf-O-Data, a computer program that watched traffic patterns in Seattle. With that program Bill Gates and Paul Allen got $20,000. Bill Gates and Paul Allen wanted to make their own company but Gate’s parents told him to finish high school and start collage.

The Altair 8800 Bill Gates graduated Lakeside School in

1973. He then attended Harvard University in fall. In Harvard, Bill would spend more time in the computer lab than in class. In 1974 Bill Gates joined Paul Allen at Honeywell. One day Paul Allen read a magazine and saw the Altair 8800 computer kit. Bill Gates and Paul Allen were thinking of the possibilities they could do with the Altair 8800.

The Beginning of Microsoft The Altair 8800 was made by a company

in New Mexico called Micro Instrumentation and Telemetry Systems, also known as (MITS). Bill Gates and Paul Allen called the company and told them they were working on a software that would run on the Altair 8800. But Bill Gates didn’t have the Altair 8800, he just wanted to make a software that would run on the Altair computer. The company agreed.

What is Microsoft?

Microsoft is software that was made by Bill Gates. It was launched in 1975 and ran on the Altair8800.

The Test to success Bill Gates and Paul Allen went to

Albuquerque, New Mexico to test their software and it worked just right. In 1975 Bill Gates and Paul Allen started Microsoft. At first Microsoft was free and people could do anything with it. On 1977 Ed Roberts the CEO of MITS sold the company to another computer company. Bill Gates and Paul Allen were by themselves. Bill Gates sued the new manager to keep their software for the Altair.

Bill Gates and IBM

In 1980 IBM(a hardware company) was looking for software that would run on their computer and went to Microsoft. One day an IBM worker thought he was an office assistant and asked for coffee. Bill Gates did look young but Gates got IBM’s attention pretty quickly and convinced IBM that Microsoft would help their needs.

Good news & Bad news

Around 1978-1981 the staff increased from 25 people to 128 people. Also around mid 1981 Bill Gates was chosen as the president of Microsoft and Paul Allen as the vice president. On 1983 Microsoft went global from places in Japan and Great Britain. Also 30% of the worlds computers ran on Microsoft. That same year Paul Allen was got the Hodgkin's disease and left the Microsoft company.

Windows

On November 1985, Microsoft launched Windows. After a while Windows looked a lot like Apple’s Macintosh. Before Apple gave Microsoft access to their technology while Microsoft products that would work on the Apple computer. Bill Gates told Apple to license their work but they refused.

Good thing - Bad thing

In 1987, Bill Gates became a billionaire has been on the top of Forbes 400 list of the worlds richest people and held the title for 18 years. On 1994 Bill Gates married Melinda French at Hawaii. A few months later something terrible happened. Bill Gate's mother got breast cancer and died in June 1994.

The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation

In 2000 Bill and Melinda Gates started the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. At this time Bill Gates left Steve Ballmer as the CEO of Microsoft. He still was the president of Microsoft. On June 27, 2008 Bill Gates retired from Microsoft to work at the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
