DESCRIPTION

In his work, Zaza aims to redefine preconceptions of form; he removes the links between shape and function, instead imagining his subjects as gelatinous, unrestricted by any fixed purpose. In giving the eye a number of ways in which to see something, the painting and the viewer can interact on an individual level, giving each person a unique experience. Both in nature and in man-made technology, objects’ shapes are dictated by the needs that they must fulfil; thus we see that shape is limited by function. From the microscopic to the cosmic, all matter is simply a bundle of elements held together with gravitational force. Everything in the universe is a physical process of its own operation, deriving its energy from that of a greater whole, where energy perpetuates energy in an ever-continuing loop. Zaza seeks to overcome these limitations by imaging his creations as amorphous, detached from context. This allows for other boundaries to be broken down too- those between past and future.
