With this season marking the 54th consecutive year since 1960 that we have entered teams in the NSW Churches Football Association (“NSWCFA”) and with the Club approaching its 75th Anniversary next year, I thought it would be timely to reflect on why the Club is still going strongly after so many years and what we can do to ensure it continues to do so in the future. The Club was formed in 1939 and functioned until the mid 1950’s when it ceased operations for a few years before its reformation in 1960 by a number of parents, mainly from the Lidcombe Congregational Church (hence the name, “Congos”), keen to give their children the opportunity to play the wonderful game of soccer. The Club was mainly run by these parents until the early 1980’s when the senior players, most of whom had started with the Club in the juniors, assumed responsibility for the Club’s affairs. Life would no doubt have been a lot easier for these senior players to walk away from junior soccer back in the early 1980’s and just concentrate on their own game, but the decision was made that the Club would continue to be operated to provide playing opportunities for all the children of the district, regardless of their background or ability, and this remains much of the focus of the Club to this day. I therefore wish to pay tribute to my fellow members on the management committee, most of whom have been involved with the Club for many years for the dedicated and unselfish manner in which they have gone about helping the Club achieve its aims, in particular our hard working secretary since 1995, James “PC” May, who this year most deservedly became the first person to achieve 700 games for the Club. I’m sure his first coach, the late Ray “Curly” James, would have been very proud of his protégé who surely ranks as one of the great “Congo’s.” I won’t try and list everything that James does so willingly and uncomplainingly for the Club – I would almost certainly miss something if I did – but most of you no doubt would already be well aware of the contribution he makes, ably supported of course by wife Jodie. However, I would like to take the opportunity to appeal to everyone to think about trying to do that little bit more for the Club to lighten James’ load. In this regard it is pleasing to note that we had four new coaches of the juniors this year, all either parents or other relatives of the players which was a great help in the running of the Club. My thanks to these newcomers as well as to the other coaches who backed up for another season this year. It is a big commitment to give up your Saturday mornings for almost six months of the year as well as attend Phillips Park every Wednesday during the season, particularly on those cold winter nights! Of course you don’t have to coach or manage a team to make a difference. There are many other ways in which you can help out such as assisting in the canteen (on a roster basis), helping out with fundraising sausage sizzle at Bunnings, putting up and taking down portable goal posts and nets etc. One person who really made a difference this year was Donna Batchelor who, with assistance from partner, Steve May, took over the responsibility for the running of the canteen from Alex Morozoff. My thanks to both Donna and Steve for their efforts as well as to Alex for looking after the canteen for quite a few years. Finally, I would mention that the Club’s Annual General Meeting will be held on November 12 and it would be great to see as many people as possible come along to have a say in the running of YOUR Club. Hope to see you all back again next season and participating in the celebrations for the Club’s 75th Anniversary, planning for which is already well underway. - KEN JAMES PRESIDENT

As another season concludes I reflect on the position of our Club. I believe that we are in a building phase and should be now capitalising on the solid foundation that we have developed this year. It was very pleasing this year to see new volunteers step up when needed in so many rolls. Whether it was coaching, helping with the canteen & BBQ, dressing the fields or any of the other duties that need to be done to ensure that the Club’s functions are fulfilled. This year we again fielded seven junior teams and one senior team. There were many highlights this year. On-field successes were:

Under 8s winning the competition Under 8s winning the President’s Cup Under 9s winning the competition Under 9s finalist of the President’s Cup Under 12s Grand Finalists Under 12s winning the Six A Side competition Under 13s winning the competition Under 13s winning the Six A Side competition Under 15s winning the Six A Side competition 1st Grade Grand Finalists

As has been the case for the past two seasons we entered our older junior teams in the Granville Districts Association. The competition was well matched with our sides matching their opposition. The Under 12s side had some stiff competition compared to last season and still qualified for the Grand Final. The Under 13s took out the premiership and were Grand Champions. The younger junior teams continued to play in the N.S.W.C.F.A. This gives the opportunity for the players to play in a structured healthy competition. The Under 8s played well taking out their competition and the President’s Cup. The Under 9s had success in taking out their competition after a few years of building the team. As always, the club could not field teams without the tremendous support and work done by the coaches and managers. This year we had five new coaches and managers help out, Dave Miller, Ben Oner, Kaan Oner, Kellie Foggon and Wasyl Prytouliak. Trent Smith, Loueze Dib, Sam Annous, Lorraine and Paul Kratz, Ken James, and Steven May returned to share their experience. Thanks to all the coaches and managers for your efforts throughout the season. The Club must extend a big thankyou to Donna Batchelor and Steven May for their efforts in coordinating the efficient running of the canteen. The canteen is the nucleus of the Club’s income and the efforts that they put in this season are greatly appreciated. Thanks also to the other volunteers who supported Donna and Steve behind the counter and on the BBQ. It is the small efforts that are appreciated that takes off just a little bit of pressure on the day and to ensure that everything runs smoothly. Our Club is fortunate to be supported by many volunteers. The Management Committee each year has the hard task of recognising one individual who has just done that little bit extra or stepped out of their comfort zone to help out. This year the Management Committee has recognised the contribution Dave Miller has made to the club by awarding him the Norm Huteau Memorial Trophy for Best Clubman.

Page 21: MOHAMAD MEHAJER SIVANUJAN SIVAKUMARANlidcombechurchessoccer.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/... · pincott family shield for leading goalscorer (competition games only) andrew lylo (u/13)

Dave stepped up at the beginning of the season to take on the roll of the Under 7s coach when the team desperately need guidance. He was at Phillips Park setting up the mini posts and packing them away following the matches, and then would help out on the BBQ at the canteen. His team reports and player statistics were always the first submitted on a Saturday and who couldn’t miss his Facebook updates keeping everyone informed of what was happening with the Under 7s. Thanks Dave for your efforts in leading the way with the Under 7s and for all of your support given to the Club this season The management committee also recognises the efforts of a junior member who has made a great contribution to the club throughout the season and this year Patrick May has been awarded the Patrons’ Trophy for Best Junior Clubman. Patrick was always willing to help at Phillips Park. He started the season as the fill-in coach of the Under 7s but unfortunately couldn’t continue due to his playing commitments clashing with the roll. He would be at Phillips Park at 7.30am on Saturday mornings helping to dress the fields (no matter what the weather was like) and he was often called upon to referee the Under 7s matches when the Association could not supply us with a referee. Patrick also helped regularly on the BBQ prior to playing his own match. There were a number of players who achieve personal milestones. Congratulations to the following players on achieving their own individual milestones while loyally representing the club:

James “PC” May achieved the incredible milestone of becoming the first player in our Club’s 74 year history to play 700 club games in a memorable match against Guildford McCredie on July 20 at Phillips Park.

Trent “Angry” Smith became the 13th player to play 500 club games. He commenced playing in 1984 and notched up his milestone against Zimwarriors in the first match of the season at Broughton Anglican College.

Five players joined the Honour Roll this season when they played their 100th club game. Congratulations to:

o Andrew Lylo (U/13S) - (Commenced 2007) o James Lawandos (U/13) - (Commenced 2007) o Athavan Nithiananthan (U/12) - (Commenced 2008) o Mitchell Djelevski (U/13) - (Commenced 2006) o Blake Batchelor (U/12) - (Commenced 2009)

Overall it has been another enjoyable year, enjoyable because of the contributions and support of the players, coaches, spectators and volunteers. All of these people contribute to the successful running of our club which, in turn, gives the children in every team the opportunity to develop both their football and social skills. Thank you everyone for supporting the club. Special thanks must go to the management committee who started organising the season last December and have worked through to the Presentation Day in October. My personal thanks extend to all members of the management committee for your help and contributions this season. We look forward to seeing each and every one of you back at Phillips Park next season and please remember that LOYALTY IS PRICELESS. Finally a reminder of those immortal words that our former patron Ray “Curly” James once said and was so often heard to repeat: “Once a Congo, ALWAYS A CONGO”.

- JAMES MAY SECRETARY

Everyone who followed the Under 7’s this season had the good fortune to witness a team which clearly enjoyed every aspect of the game of soccer. A striking feature of this team has been the positive and competitive spirit with which they played each match. With a total of 66 goals in season 2013, compared with a total of 34 goals against, they clearly enjoyed scoring goals; this in turn was enjoyed and appreciated by those who watched them from the sidelines as the season progressed. Speaking of progress, it was also pleasing to see the players develop their individual and team skills. It must be noted that a team effort from the players’ parents and carers – transport to and from the matches, running the line to assist the referee, stepping in as on-field coach, cheering the team on, assisting at weekly training sessions – formed a significant contribution to this. Thank you to all for helping the players in this way. Here are some of the characteristics of the Under 7s team that we witnessed throughout the year: Determination – every game, regardless of whether it was won or lost, the players put in a full effort right up to the final whistle, inspiring each other to do their best. Enthusiasm – everybody was always super keen to get out onto the field and have a go. Spirit – time after time, in game after game, it was amazing to watch the players lift themselves, as they scrambled in defence, and turned defence into attack, more often than not to win the game. In terms of soccer skills: Player positioning – the players demonstrated an improved understanding of the importance of positioning themselves and moving around the field, to create opportunities to run the ball and shoot for goal. Passing – it’s very pleasing to see that many goals were scored this year as the result of a chain of passes … and of course - having plenty of shots, scoring goals and celebrating! (A sample of which you can see on the Congo’s Facebook page) Congratulations and thank you to each and every one of the players for being part of a great Under 7s team in 2013, in many ways you have set a benchmark in defining the Congo spirit. If you keep on ‘having a go’, working with your team mates, coaches and helpers on and off the field, and keep up the energy and the enthusiasm, then you are sure to have many more great seasons. We hope to see you all playing again with the Congs in 2014. The players in the team were: Hissham AHMADI: An exceptional and amazing effort in every game played. Hissham gave it everything he had in defence and attack. He concentrated on getting the ball and scoring, which resulted in twenty one goals from eleven matches, including one match where he scored a record-equalling ten goals. Wow! And Congratulations! Tito AKOL: Another of the “Unstoppables”, who stormed through the defence time after time to put the Lidcombe team on the attack. Tito is recognised as a player who helped the team to score on many occasions, and he provided two of his own from twelve matches played. A great defender who is almost impossible to get past, thank you Tito for your effort throughout the season. Sailesh ARULANANTHAM: Played five matches with the team this year, and it was good to see the improvement in his running, passing and shooting skills in each game. Sailesh is to be commended for his efforts this season, and for the support

Page 23: MOHAMAD MEHAJER SIVANUJAN SIVAKUMARANlidcombechurchessoccer.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/... · pincott family shield for leading goalscorer (competition games only) andrew lylo (u/13)

he offered to his team mates throughout the year, as it support like this that makes for a great team. Zak ESMAIL: Played one match at the beginning of the season, and scored a goal in that match. Zak is a very skilful player, and is always welcome to play again with the Lidcombe team. We hope to see Zak on the soccer field again in 2014. Daniel IBAY: A bundle of energy who pitched in as goalkeeper, as well as playing on the field. Daniel has proven to be a very good utility player who takes on the opposition at every opportunity, and backs up well as a defender. With seven matches and a goal to his name this season, Daniel has made a solid contribution to the team’s success, and deserves praise for his cheerful attitude and hard work on the field. Mohamad MEHAJER: A player who managed to run rings around the opposition teams on every occasion with his skills and flair for the game. Mohamad scored a total of twenty five goals from nine matches, with numerous hat-tricks, and a full effort in every game he played. Another player who loves scoring goals, a superb result! Keith MILLER: Keith was “the Rock” in defence for the team, and developed a fearless “Ninja” approach to stopping the opposition attack and booming the ball up field to put the team back on the attack. With two goals from thirteen matches, Keith has shown good development in his soccer skills this year, and clearly gets great enjoyment from playing. Anthony MUBARIK: If you watch Anthony play you will see that he understands very well how to position himself and anticipate where the ball will be going – in other words, Anthony can “read the play”. This is a really good skill to have. Three goals this season from five games played, and with good running and ball control skills, Anthony is a great all-round player. Anthony MYLONAS: Shows that he is always really happy to be playing the game. Anthony made many contributions as goalkeeper and also on the field, scoring six goals in twelve matches, with many more shots that came close. Showing fine sportsmanship and making great efforts in both defence and attack in every game, Anthony truly has the Congo spirit. Okej OTWAN: Joined the team this year and played in two matches, and also participated in the Wednesday night training sessions. Okej introduced to the team his great sense of humour and his willingness to participate, and like every player in this team, demonstrated the ‘have a go’ spirit that made the team successful. Jethro RINAKAMA: One of the “Unstoppables” this year, with an ability to tear up the field with the ball and create scoring opportunities. Jethro also proved to be a very capable goalkeeper. A great runner of the ball and an enthusiastic defender, Jethro slotted in four goals in seven matches, and set up many more. Well done and well played Jethro! Sivanujan SIVAKUMARAN: It was very pleasing to watch Sivanujan develop his soccer skills this year, to the stage where he scored a beautiful running goal in a home game in the latter part of the season. Sivanujan played in ten games, and is commended for the commitment he showed, a real team player at all times, who also shows great sportsmanship. Vithaghan VIJAY: Played in a total of seven matches, split between the start and the end of the season. A memorable contribution from Vithaghan was the creative kick-off that he and his team mates choreographed at a home game (which Lidcombe won). Vithaghan deserves recognition for his part in delivering a fine team effort this year. - DAVE MILLER COACH

I would like to congratulate all the players for their efforts, passion, determination and desire to be true champions. This season our Under 8’s have proven not only to themselves but their parents, the club and the teams out there that with hard work, team effort and spirit the sky is the limit. We tackled rain, hail & shine this season and faced some defeat, but did not give up and learnt from our mistakes to overcome hurdles and to embrace triumph. Each week our kids grew stronger by training hard, playing harder and improving on their individual skills, defensive skills and team play. This was reflected in the ‘competition ladder’ finishing first in Group B with 30 points and winning the President’s Cup Final. I am very proud of each and every player and look forward to next season! The players in the team were: Jae BATY: When focused Jae has shown strong ability in defence, she is valued within the team. With a little more involvement and focus next year I believe Jae can take her game to a new level. Izaack GIACCO: Izaack is a key element in the midfield and is a player to be reckoned with. He is great at hustling and with a little more confidence and aggression he can create more scoring opportunities. We have seen a glimpse of that especially in the semi finals where he scored a crucial goal to take us to the Finals. Look forward to next season and to see you excel in your game buddy. Yehye HAMDAN: In mathematical terms Yehye = Speed. Our ‘Speedy Gonzalez’ on the field consistently tormented the opposition with his lightning speed, strong tackles and determination. He is a crucial member of the team, not only saving the day when opposition goals seemed imminent, but also proving himself to be one of our leading goal scorers and earning himself the MOST IMPROVED player award. With some improvement in ball control he will be extremely threatening next season. Raiden JANG: Raiden only had a few games with us this season but did a great job whilst with us. He played well defensively and in one of the important games of the season he made a fantastic save whilst in goals. Hope to see you next season. Adam MHAJER: What can I say, a natural talent! Adam will be a name remembered for many years to come. Not only does he have his team’s respect but also the associations’. Despite sitting on the sidelines for a couple of weeks due to injury, he made up for lost time by playing an exceptional season positioning himself as one of the leading goal scorers. He is an all rounder with exceptional ability to read the game, create opportunities and punish the opposition with his great foot work and shooting ability. I can only see Adam growing stronger and stronger in this great sport. Rana MHAJER: Rana plays with her heart and soul and she is one of the strongest defenders in the entire competition. She is like “Kryptonite” to all opposing strikers. Her strength in reading and stopping the opposition players in their tracks is undeniable. Rana’s ability to run the ball out of defence, darting in and around the opposing attackers was very destructive. Week in and week out, in training or in games, she keeps her composure and plays her game consistently. Well done Rana, I look forward to seeing your brilliance again next season.

Page 27: MOHAMAD MEHAJER SIVANUJAN SIVAKUMARANlidcombechurchessoccer.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/... · pincott family shield for leading goalscorer (competition games only) andrew lylo (u/13)

Jeyan ONER: This was Jeyan’s best season to date. He demonstrated his passion for the sport with dedication and determination. This season he proved to be a versatile player, showing us continuous improvement week in and week out. His ball control improved immensely showing us that he was thinking about the game as he created opportunities for his team mates and used his powerful kicks to tuck the ball into the net, earning himself the ‘leading goal scorer’ title finishing with 17 goals for this season. Well done Jeyan and we look forward to your determined efforts next season. Kaya ONER: A newcomer with plenty of passion and enthusiasm, he really loves his soccer and it can be seen in his dedication to every training session and every match. Kaya has fancy footwork with good ball control. He has the ability to score, which he certainly showed us when scoring against Hills Spirit Green with a great volley. Keep up the good work and see you again next season. Sweekar PANDEY: Having had no previous soccer experience Sweekar naturally struggled a bit at the start of the season, however by listening to the coach and trying harder he was able to show us his capabilities and put in a couple of promising performances towards the end of the season. Sweekar certainly has plenty of potential and I believe with a little more confidence he can achieve great results. Suvan RAYA: I admire Suvan’s dedication to attend every training session and game. Next season I would like to see Suvan engage more and find where his strengths lay in order to develop his skills. I also want to acknowledge his commitment to the team by manning the goals for us when needed. Mert UNTEZ: Having had no previous soccer experience, Mert has given us a glimpse of what a strong player he is. He played a solid season and kept to his position in defence/ midfield. Mert entered his name on the ‘hall of fame’ against Wenty Uniting. With a little more enthusiasm he will definitely grow from strength to strength. Well done and look forward to next season. - BEN ONER COACH UNDER 8 Division B - SEASON RESULTS

This year was the most exciting year I have had as a coach. During the year the team came together and showed there ability. The whole team has become like a little family and that is where I believe their strength has come from. Many a game during the year the team started with only eight or nine players, but this never deterred the team spirit as they came up with some key wins which would take them to the Grand final. What an inspirational effort! I am proud to be their coach. Within this team there has also been tremendous support from all the parents and I would like to thank them all. Thank you also to the players from the Under 8’s who played with us when we were short of players this season. I hope everyone returns next year for another successful soccer season with this great club. The players in the team were: Severino FIERRO: He is one of our solid three defenders keeping our goal line safe. A great defender at the back with good ability to read the oncoming attack. Jonathan HANNFORD: Big John was a key to our strength at the back. His skills have developed to become an aggressive defender with lighting pace down the sidelines to show his ability to attack as well. Juach JUACH: An intimidating striker who was always frustrating the opposing teams with twists and turns. His quick speed to run them down and strong tackles would see him constantly gain possession of the ball. Andrew KING: He played a few games in goals proving to be a great goalie and an asset to the team. His best game was the last, keeping the score line to 0-0, well done Madeline LEASK: Her aggression grew throughout the year which improved her defence. She made a few darting runs through the middle, showing her ability to take the ball up the field in attack. Well done on a great season. Sean MCGLADE: Kiwi Krusher is just that. his strong tackles and defence was inspirational at the back, always putting in 100%. His skills shined through with his many runs down the wings. Renee MILLER: Not too many words from Renee, but when she fires, LOOK OUT! She was aggressive in tackles, running down the opposing team and winning the ball. She was always improving her ability with every game. Well done. Jerold REYES: Spike played many roles this year, a very versatile player both on the field and in goals. His ability to cover other player’s mistakes with great defence was his strength, well done. Brandon THAI: A pocket rocket with tremendous ability to read the play in attack and defence. He would always support his team mates and was instrumental to the success of the team. Timothy YOON: Is the heart of the team. His ability to control and read the game is at an extremely high level, well beyond his years. His ability to play any role is a tremendous asset to the team. Timothy’s play this year was crucial to the success of the team, well done. - TRENT SMITH COACH

With Ken James unable to coach this year, I decided to give coaching a soccer team a go. I learned that it doesn't stop at training nights and game days. Firstly I would like to thank the following people;

James May, for the time and effort put in at training nights. If it was not for James I would have had no idea.

Steve May, for helping out coaching on a few occasions when I was unable to make it to home games.

Peter Maljevac and Sandy Leask for helping out when I couldn't make a couple of away games.

And most of all, the parents and grandparents. Without you the kids would never have been able to play the games.

This team had enough potential to have won more than half the games they played this season. Their losses were usually never by much and mainly due to the fact that they forgot to keep chasing and challenging for the ball. The team also lacked a bit in confidence, not only in the individual but in each other. If they can trust each other a bit more and pass the ball around I'm sure next year they will get the wins they deserve. During the year the players worked hard on improving their passing, positioning and control. Continual training like this next season will surely get them the wins they want and deserve. It was a pleasure to coach this team, and an experience I will never forget. The players in the team were: Edwin AKOL: Played a really good season, scoring a few goals by being in the right place and showing a bit of chase about him. A few more goals would have gone his way if he remembered to stay on side. Something to work on next year! George FAINGATAA: One of our youngest players and never deterred by the bigger fellows. Showed some real potential with his passing and was always giving his best. Defence is definitely his game. Amber GUNN: Always managing to find the ground at least once in every game, yet she would get back up shake it off and go and challenge the boys harder. Many times playing her position left her up near the goals able to score. Hopefully next year she will get the goals she was hungry for. Jasmine GUNN: Learnt a great deal after playing for the Zone Representative side. Her knowledge of the game has grown, instructing the team to mark, push up and encouraging the team to play their positions. Her kicking has improved immensely. She would be one of the best defenders this team has. Alex ISAACS: Spent most of his time playing left fullback and definitely made his presence known in the last few games. Alex is always good for a laugh. If he spent as much time defending as he does talking there would be no goals scored against the team! He brings a bright side to the team always lifting their spirits even after a loss. Tilakraj JAISHANKAR: When you could get him to play in goals, he gave it everything. Definitely a position he should think about for next year. He was never afraid to attack the ball, whether in goals or on the field, never giving the opposition any time on the ball.

Page 33: MOHAMAD MEHAJER SIVANUJAN SIVAKUMARANlidcombechurchessoccer.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/... · pincott family shield for leading goalscorer (competition games only) andrew lylo (u/13)

Dion KAA: As always one of the strongest players in the team. He combined well with Caleb, forming a strong attacking combination which paid off on many occasions. With a bit more trust and confidence in the rest of the team he will be setting them up for wins and scoring more goals next year. Dion was also selected to play in the Zone Representative side and grew as a player from this. Billy LEASK: One of the smallest players and yet more fight than any other kid on the team. His persistence in challenging anyone with the ball paid off on many occasions. A huge improvement in ball skills and throw-ins this season. Well done, Billy! Alex MALJEVAC: Right fullback was his favoured position. By the end of the season he'd got rid of his air swings and found how to get his foot to the ball. Alex is still learning that you can dribble and pass not just boot the ball. Yatin MOHARANA: Yatin has all the skills and he knows the game, but he has got to learn to go looking for the ball. With a little more desire and hunger for the ball there is no reason why he can’t become one of the team’s leading players. Aydin RICHARDS: New to the game, a very hungry player in whatever position you put him in. He always wanted to give everything a go. With more experience he will learn to keep his position a bit better and become a force to be reckoned with. Caleb RINAKAMA: A great player. Chosen to play for the Zone Representative side and you can see why with his ball skills. A natural talent with a love for the game. Will become an even better player when he learns to pass the ball a bit more and concentrate on playing in position. Sometimes forgot he should be up front scoring goals, not defending his own. An absolute pleasure to have on the team. Keenen ROSHAN: Likes playing left wing, but plays an excellent game in goals, much to his dislike. With so much potential as a keeper he could really grow. I hope he considers playing there next year and giving it a real go. William TRAN: In his first year of playing William started slowly, but made steady improvement and made every effort to keep his position. He will improve next season with more experience and when he learns to play with a bit more “fire in his belly.” Gorang YAI: Once he finds his confidence he will be scoring goals along with the others. A bit of work on his positioning and keeping up with his team mates by being there for them to pass the ball and he will be up there in no time. - KELLIE FOGGON COACH UNDER 11s Division A - SEASON RESULTS

The Under 12s side continued to develop this season. The teamwork, skill and attitude that the players posses is well advanced compared to most others in the competition, a credit to them as most are playing a year above their age group. The team didn’t have it all their own way this year and suffered a few losses. This helped build their character towards the end of the season which showed in the Qualifying Final against St Michaels. I would like to thank the following people:

Ronnie Kritikos (our most passionate supporter) - who took the team at training when I had other commitments

All the parents who transported the players and ensured they were at training and matches.

Finally I would like to congratulate all the team on a fantastic and enjoyable season. I look forward to seeing each and every one of you return next year and continue to play for our great club for many years to come. The players in the team were: Talha AHMED: Played mainly in the defence and kept the opposition forwards at bay. He missed several matches mid season due to illness but it was pleasing to see him return at the business end of the season. Blake BATCHELOR: A very versatile player, Blake could play in most positions. His solid stature was very menacing for the opposition defence when he was paying in attack often winning the 50-50 balls and finding the back of the net. Kennu CHALLENGER: Kennu re-joined the team this year after playing up in the under 12s in 2012. His inspirational defending would dishearten many of our opponents. His speed and ability to read the game is very impressive. Arzycki DE VERA: The “Zeek” definitely benefited from playing a year up in age last season and proved to be our best marking defender with not many players being able to get past him. Easily the most improved player in the team this season and a deserved recipient of the MOST IMPROVED player award. Kabilan GOWRIESWAREN: Proved that playing so well in his first season last year was no fluke. Kabilan played well in both defence and the midfield. His runs down the right side where often finished with an excellent cross to set up many scoring opportunities. Calvin ITURRA: Calvin posses good ball skills and vision. He is always look a play ahead and his unselfish play lead to and set up many of the team’s attacking plays. Congratulations on receiving this year’s Most Consistent Player Award. Daniel KRITIKOS: Daniel’s first year with us and it didn’t take him long to settle in finding the net twice in the second match of the season. He was a valuable addition to the midfield with his ball control and distribution to the forwards. Looking forward to an even better season in 2014. Ramanan LINGHANATHAN: Ram didn’t take long to blend in with the team in his first season. He defended well and played in most positions throughout the year. The experience that he gained this season will see him develop in future seasons.

Page 36: MOHAMAD MEHAJER SIVANUJAN SIVAKUMARANlidcombechurchessoccer.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/... · pincott family shield for leading goalscorer (competition games only) andrew lylo (u/13)

Christopher MAY: Chris’ experience showed again this season. He can play in position and will always perform for the team. His on field communication has helped the team throughout the year and the other players have learnt from this and are all communicating with each other. His vision and composure on the ball when under pressure should also be noted. Emmanuel MYLONAS: Emmanuel has the ability to change a game. His ball distribution is clinical combining with all players to get the ball away from the defence and set up attacking plays. The way he controls the ball and leaves players in his wake is lovely to watch. He would also take the ball from the midfield on many occasions beating three or four players to score a vital goal. Athavan NITHIANANTHAN: Another strong season from Arti. His speed in beating the opposing defenders to the ball and getting in a good cross would help set many goals this year. He also knows where to position himself best to capitalise on goal scoring opportunities. Tomislav TEKLIC: Mr Composure, Tom’s calm way of dealing with the ball when under pressure from the opposition was very impressive. His man on man marking improved this year as did his positional play. - JAMES MAY COACH UNDER 12s - SEASON RESULTS

In my first year of coaching I must say that it has been a pleasure to guide the team to success in 2013. This could not have been possible without the support of the team manger Loueze Dib. The team had a fantastic year on the field winning the Six-A-Side tournament, Minor Premiership and Grand Final. On another high for the team, three players Andrew Lylo, Thomas Livesey and Samuel Zubkov were selected to represent NSW City U14's team at the National Christian Football Association Titles that were held in Western Australia during the September school holidays. Finally I would like to congratulate all the players on a great season. Without their effort and commitment to training and playing football all these achievements would not have been possible. A big thank you to all the parents/guardians for your commitment in bringing the kids to away games. Also thank you to Maria Lylo providing oranges/ fruit every game for our half time energy boost. I look forward to seeing everyone back in the 2014 season to continue our success as a team. The players in the team were: Kin CHALLENGER: Played mainly at right back, Kin perfected his slide tackle technique making crucial tackles cutting out many of the opponent’s goal scoring opportunities throughout the season. Mitchell DJELEVSKI: Centre Back/Sweeper - started in midfield, early in the season was moved into a defensive role where his skills began to shine. Jonathan DUONG: Jonathan had a great season playing any position he was required in, always giving his best effort. William HA: Surprised us all with his goal keeping skills, playing goalkeeper in the final two matches of the season. His commitment when playing on the field was also noticeable. Ahmad KHALILI: Playing in his first year of football Ahmad displayed great endurance and ball skills in the midfield. He is a player with great ability. James LAWANDOS: James is a solid performer who showed great ability at free kicks and corner kicks. While his ball skills and leadership as the team’s captain where second to none. Thomas LIVESEY: Goalkeeper - showed great potential in his first year in goals, unfortunately his season ended with three games to play, when he broke two bones in his leg at rep training. Andrew LYLO: Andrew played his greatest season with the ball at his feet, even scoring six goals in one game. He also displayed great goal keeping skills filling in during the final three matches of the season and saving a penalty in the Grand Final. Akash MUBARIK: Displayed determination in winning the ball playing in the defensive line, always giving 100% effort. John MUBARIK: John had a solid season in midfield showing pace with the ball, also played in the defence when required. Fadi NABOULSI: Fadi only played five games during the season, but caught the eye of the coach in every game he played, always putting in 100% effort. Hamze TAHA: Hamze usually played in defence but showed great potential when he was swapped to play on the wing.

The under 15s started off 2013 with very high hopes but as the season went on our high hopes turned into disappointment and frustration. We ended the season with 6 wins, 4 draws and 8 losses. The majority of our games we would have had at least 70% of position and were all over the opposition but as usual we had shot after shot at goals but were unable to get the ball in the back of the net. Many of the teams that we did play, even though we were all over them, were still able to get that one break away and score against the run of play. If the laws of the game had been changed to allow points to be scored from hitting the goal posts, we would have gone through the season undefeated and because of that fact. This is why our season ended up being so frustrating. Special thanks goes out to all the parents for getting their children and other players to the away games. We would also like to thank Coach Sam’s older sons (Abdul and Fadi) and other parents who were able to help on training nights when Sam was unavailable. We wish all the players well in the off season and hope to see you next season to play some good football. The players in the team were: Ibrahim ANNOUS: Playing as stopper Ibby had a wonderful season by showing incredible skills and stopping the attacking opposition on many occasions. Ibby played a valuable role in our team as one of our main defenders throughout the year and regularly cut out many scoring opportunities. Anthony BOUSTANI: Anthony had a fantastic season scoring 13 goals and setting up many other scoring opportunities for his team mates. His excellent skills, shooting and passing makes him a good team mate to have. Radar CHALLENGER: Another good year playing wherever he was asked to. With his determination to get the ball he wouldn’t give up. His goal keeping skills when asked to put on the gloves were very good, and this was shown by the amount of goals that were not scored against him. Will COURTWOOD: Will’s second season of soccer, started off with a quick goal in the first game but unfortunately this was going to end up being his only goal for the season. Will showed eagerness to get to the ball first while defending and also demonstrated some good attacking skills. Merage EBRAHIMI: Merage’s first season with the Congs started off slow but he quickly gelled with the other players. He showed good ball skills throughout the season and showed a willingness to learn throughout the season and played some good football, therefore earning himself the MOST IMPROVED player award. Rakulan GANESARAJAH: Rakulan supported his strikers and backs by attacking and defending well and would try his hardest each week to score a goal but unfortunately did not succeed. Rak’s speed is an asset to the team. Jayden HUGHES: Jayden is a strong minded player with some good ball skills. He showed determination to get to the ball first and netted nine goals for the season. Jayden shows he has the skills of a great player with good attacking, defending and kicking skills but only if he learns to listen and not move players around the field himself. Jayden’s skills also included goal keeping which meant at various times he was asked to put on the gloves, well done.

Page 42: MOHAMAD MEHAJER SIVANUJAN SIVAKUMARANlidcombechurchessoccer.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/... · pincott family shield for leading goalscorer (competition games only) andrew lylo (u/13)

Daniel KRATZ: Daniel is a very good team player an excellent sweeper, keeping the ball away from the goals with his long ball kicking skills. He also enjoys playing upfront and his speed and determination allowed him to score 11 goals for the season while also setting up many others for his team. Daniel proved to be a valuable player earning him this year’s MOST CONSISTENT player award. Brenton LOWE: Brenton playing striker had a great year scoring nine goals for the season with many foiled attempts whilst trying hard. Brenton showed good ball skills passing to team mates; he is a solid player not afraid to get involved in tackles and most often ending up with the ball. Brenton has an awesome accurate throw in going far into the field. Patrick MAY: Patty had another great season this year as goal keeper always telling the backs what to do, which player to mark, which player we need to shut down completely. Towards the end of the year Patrick wanted to play on the field and as he did he helped in many attacking opportunities and was unlucky not to score. Keegan MURRAY: Keegan stayed strong this year as left wing keeping his speed, skills and most importantly determination to get to the ball, always trying never giving up he keeps going and going. Great season this year Keegan! Ali WARRAICH: Ali came to us this year from Newington and fitted in well with the other players. Ali turned out to be a versatile player and was able to play any position required of him on the field. He even netted a goal when playing up front. Adam YOON: Adam had another great year using his speed and his body when going into tackles, he was always where the ball was whether it was attack or defence. Adam had many runs down the field helping set up many goals and scoring five himself. Well done Adam! Deng YAI: Deng joined for his first season of soccer for Lidcombe and has shown great improvement throughout the year. Deng mainly played in the fullback position and proved himself to be a good defender for our team. - SAM ANNOUS COACH - PAUL KRATZ ASSISTANT COACH - LORRAINE KRATZ MANAGER UNDER 15s - SEASON RESULTS

First Grade had another successful season finishing Minor Premiers and Grand Finalists. Unfortunately we went down in a penalty shoot out in the Grand Final against a strong finishing Zimwarriors side.

The season started at Menangle Park on the world’s smallest field against Zimwarriors. Unfortunately we could only scrape together nine players (a theme to commonly be repeated throughout the season), luckily for us we were able to use four Greystanes registered players for the match. Captain Trent ‘Angry’ Smith led the side to victory in his 500th game for the Congs and the season was under way!

Along the way we had some tough matches against Epping (the only side we failed to beat all season), an extremely physically demanding nil all encounter with Zimwarriors at Bert Saunders Reserve and some tough battles with Guildford (Red).

Highlights of the season included-

Trent Smith playing his 500th club game for the Congs.

James ‘P.C’ May becoming the first Congo ever to play 700 games and scoring a spectacular goal in the match.

The six a side team finishing runners up in the B Grade competition.

Playing the Grand Final on the main field at Marconi Stadium.

Congratulations to Adrian Martinez on winning the most consistent player award and picking up the Ray ‘Curly’ James Trophy.

A very big thank you to the following Greystanes registered players who filled in for us throughout the season, we could not have achieved the success we did this year without you guys:

Evan Hart (9 games); Noge Bengamine Beshere (5 games); Michael Miller (3 games); Reza Alkhatawi, John Barsoum and Wayne Nathaniel (2 games each); Paul Keorkes, Dany Khamis, Phillip Martin, Wesley Nathaniel and Chris Phouthavong (1 game each).

Despite the success of the season we are still our own worst enemies… the lack of commitment shown by some players was disgraceful, attendance at training was poor, fitness levels across the whole team were terrible (costing us the Grand Final), players were late to games or not showing up at all while on field discipline and the way we treat each other on the field is woeful.

All this needs to be addressed if we want to encourage people to come and play with us next season (remember we only had 13 registered Congs players available for the Grand Final).

Hope to see everyone return next season so we can go one better and take out the title!

The players in the team were: Noge BENGAMINE BASHERE: Although registered with Greystanes, Noge proved to be an integral part of the team, holding the defence together and being one of our better performers in the finals. After playing his first match with us at Everley Park everyone would ask every week, “Is Noge playing today?”

Daniel GILDEA: Our ever reliable Keeper with the safest hands in the competition. Had the single best performance of any player all season keeping a clean sheet against Zimwarriors at Bert Saunders Reserve. Evan HART: Playing his second season with the Congs, Evan had another stellar season. This season he played mostly in defence and was easily our fittest player, even after backing up from his Greystanes commitments. David HAY: Dave struggled this season with a recurring Quad muscle injury which saw him miss almost half the season. When the quad finally recovered he moved into the sweeper role which seems to suit him well. The appearance of ‘Angry Dave’ in the semi final is something the team can do without. Hopefully we never see him again! Matthew HYDE: The seasons leading goal scorer with 27 goals from 13 games. Unfortunately he fractured his wrist while playing an unauthorized match for another team. This saw him miss the back end of the season and lose fitness going into the finals. Must be a lesson there somewhere! Daniel JAMES: ‘Frank the Tank’ started the season playing at sweeper and was performing well. Unfortunately his unwillingness to train and playing most of the season injured saw what little fitness he had quickly deteriorated. Only just avoided a ‘Joe Nesci’ fine with his eight minute burst in the grand final, but still managed to come up with the most memorable play of the match! Mathew JAMES: Who would have thought that Mat would pick up the ‘Iron Man’ award for being the only player to play every match this season (all without the famous limp after the match!). He scored 25 goals for the season despite attracting plenty of attention from opposition defences, especially against Zimwarriors when he often found himself marked by up to three players at once! Dilshan KARAUNARATNE: Joined the team mid season after watching the side struggle with a lack of players against Zimwarriors. He fitted in with the guys immediately. His fitness improved with every match and after he learned to stay wide and chase back in defence so did his play. Matthew LANE: Played the first half of the season before being sent out on loan to Europe. His versatility saw him move between midfield and striker. He was sorely missed as a goal scoring option for the team and is definitely a player we need back for next season. Tristram LARWOOD: The ‘Old Fella’ played at left and centre back again this season showing the young guys how it’s done. He may have lost a bit of pace but is still as fit as ever, covering more ground playing from the back than most mid fielders do in a match. Adrian MARTINEZ: A fantastic season this year by Adrian, controlling the mid field in both attack and defence. The amount of defensive work he does in a match often goes unnoticed by his team. His off the ball runs and ball distribution was a real highlight of the season. James MAY: Pecker is the heart and soul of the Congs. His 700th match at Phillips Park was the highlight of the season with a massive crowd on hand to witness ‘that goal’. While he didn’t play as many games as in past seasons his performances this year were his best for a few years (probably because he was not carrying any injuries). Only ten more seasons till he reaches KJ’s record of most consecutive seasons played! Michael MILLER: Another one of the Greystanes crew who played three games for Lidcombe after coming out of a premature retirement mid way through the season. Michael volunteered to fill the bench when we struggled for numbers in the finals and it was certainly appreciated by the whole team.

Page 46: MOHAMAD MEHAJER SIVANUJAN SIVAKUMARANlidcombechurchessoccer.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/... · pincott family shield for leading goalscorer (competition games only) andrew lylo (u/13)

Aaron SIVASOTHY: Harry took on a greater role this season within the team, organising training and the fines (although he failed to collect any money!) and trying valiantly to get new jerseys. His emails regarding the fines were probably the most constructive emails he has sent in a few years! While on the field he filled the vacant left midfield role and had his best season in a few years. Trent SMITH: Played his 500th game this season and captained the side in the finals putting in a man of the match performance in the Grand Final. Being one of the more experienced players in the team unfortunately counted against him, being forced to play at right back when we were short of defensive players (which seemed to be every second week!). Frankie TASSONE: Returned to the Congs after last playing in the Under 13’s in 2006. He was playing well at right midfield putting in some outstanding crosses. Unfortunately he stopped playing at the end of June, never to be seen again. Should we file a missing persons report??? Tito TEALDO: It was a strange season from Tito. He would play two games then miss two games. It became rather frustrating for the rest of the team as he is a quality player and will always be in the starting eleven when available. Hopefully next season he can organize his busy social calendar in advance remembering that the team is relying on him. Prabu WEERASINGHE: It was an improved season this year from Prabs. He moved into the attacking midfield role, scored goals and lasted full games without needing to be substituted. More than half of the striker’s goals also came from either a Prabs run or him winning the ball and playing it off to them to score. Hang XIAO: Played a handful of games at the beginning of the season and picked up most consistent points in each game. Unfortunately a badminton injury ruled him out for the rest of the season, (Tough game that badminton!). He will be more than welcome back next season. - STEVEN MAY COACH
