ModuSat Master & AmplifierInstallation Guide

1 Master Device

Each master can control up to 250 ModuSat units. The Master device is a centralised unit for the readingand management of ModuSat units. They are used foradjustment and heat metering for heating and DHWproduction systems. After appropriate setting andconfiguration, the Master board enables dialoguewith the individual ModuSat units, making possible:

• The download of consumption data for individual utilities.• To highlight malfunctioning and alarms• To send firmware updates to the ModuSat boards and to the ModuSat room controllers• Remote system management by means of the GSM - GPRS modem• To modify metering unit configuration parameters• To read individual ModuSat unit status• To make motorised elements of the metering units function (pumps, valves, etc).

For communication with the device, see the dedicatedsoftware application information.

230 Volt AC Power Supply (P – N)Connect the power supply (phase, neutral and earth) tothe support terminal board.

Important: as can be seen, the earth must not beconnected to the board. On the board, the central pole between P and N mustnot be used.

Digital Output (Out)This digital output (clean contact) is available for futuresoftware developments.

4 Digital Inputs (Impulse Counter)4 volumetric meters with impulse output can beconnected to these inputs.

External ProbeAn appropriate external sensor (code 17120012) can beconnected to this analog input.

Bus (two parallel lines)Connections for the Bus lines coming from the ModuSatunits.Use both connection terminal boards if there aretwo bus “branches”.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION ON THE BUSCONNECTION

• Maintain the A and B polarity on the whole system• REFER TO THE SCHEMATIC ON PAGE 9• Use a shielded and twisted 2 x 0.35 mm2 cable• Connect the screen to the Master board only (C terminals) and not to the ModuSat units (slaves)• Continuity must be maintained throughout the entirety of the system

For verification on the Bus see section 8.

USB and RS232 ConnectorsAllows board interfacing to a PC.

Modem ConnectorsAllows the connection of the Master board to theGSM - GPRS modem.

LED DescriptionEvery 10 seconds, the Master board interrogates all theboards to which it is connected.

Meaning of LED 1:• Green on flashing every 10 seconds: The Master communicates with the slaves correctly.• Green on fixed: The Master is sending a configuration or a firmware.• Red on flashing: The Master does not find a board whose address it knows.

Meaning of LED 2:• Not used.

3 Modem

The modem module must be connected to the Masterwith the appropriate connection ribbon.

The modems power is supplied directly by the board, through this connection ribbon.

Isolate the power from the Master when connectingthe modem and SIM card.

The SIM card must be a data only card and notvoice.

The SIM card must be pushed fully home: a “click”will be heard when it is correctly inserted.

Before inserting the SIM, deactivate the PIN using acellular phone.

4 Typical Bus Connection layouts

IMPORTANT INFORMATION ON THE BUS CONNECTION• Maintain A and B polarity on the whole system• Follow the guide example layouts on the following pages• Use a shielded and twisted 2 x 0.35 mm2 cable• Connect the screen to the Master board only (C terminals) and not to the ModuSat units (slaves)• Continuity must be maintained throughout the entirety of the system

Single Branch System without Amplifier

The overall Mbus cable length must not be more than 700 meters. You must install a 330 ohm resistor terminator between terminals A and B on the last ModuSat unit.

Two Branch System without Amplifier

The overall Mbus cable length of each branch must not be more than 300 metres. You must install a330 ohm resistor terminator between terminals A and B on the last ModuSat unit of the longest of the two brancheswith the most connections.

Single Branch System with Amplifiers

If the overall Mbus cable length is more than 700 meters an amplifier must be installed as shown above. You must install a 330 ohm resistor terminator between terminals A and B on the last ModuSat unit.

Two Branch System with Amplifiers

A signal amplifier must be installed on each branch when the Mbus cable length of each branch exceeds 300meters as shown above. You must install a 330 ohm resistor terminator between terminals A and B on the lastModuSat unit of the longest of the two branches with the most connections.

IMPORTANT: While wiring the Mbus, remember that with every branch and junction in the line there is a subsequentdecrease in the signal and communication strength.

Each unit is to have an unswitched fused connection as per above drawing.

8 Verification on Bus

If there is no communication between the Master and ModuSat (slave unit), voltage verifications can be carried out tosee if there is a short circuit on the bus line or if a ModuSat board does not work.

If the values indicated below are found communication cannot be confirmed, however cable interruptions or issueswith cable connections to the terminals can be excluded.

1) Normal bus voltage on branch A – B: 0.0086 Vdc and every 10 seconds 0.0270 Vdc2) Normal bus voltage on branch A – GND: 2.47 Vdc and every 10 seconds 2.45 Vdc3) Normal bus voltage on branch B – GND: 2.46 Vdc and every 10 seconds 2.48 Vdc4) No-load voltage on slave board between A – GND: 3.19 Vdc5) No-load voltage on slave board between B – GND: 1.71 Vdc and every 10 seconds 2.45 Vdc6) No-load voltage o Master board between A – GND: 2.47 Vdcand every 10 seconds 2.48 Vdc

A minimum voltage threshold beneath which communication does not work cannot be set because thecommunication depends on the “steepness” of the front of the square wave ascent and this can only be seen with anoscilloscope.

9 General Information

For installation of ModuSat units ensure that there is a dedicated unswitched fused connection adjacent to the unitslocation within the flat/apartment.

The Master device is equipped with an antijamming filter.

The power supply must be 230 Volt AC (+10/-15 %).

Never place data transmission cables in the same enclosure or tray conduit as the power supply cables. The Mbus cables, as well as the ModuSat room thermostat or ModuSat room controller cabling can be run in thesame enclosure or tray conduit. Every metal frame must be connected to a suitable earth.

Operating conditionsOperating room temperature 0 ÷ 50 °CStorage temperature 20 ÷ 60 °CRelative humidity 1 (not condensing) 90%

10 Warranty

During the guarantee period, covering 30 months* starting on the build date of the Modusat Unit to site, allcomponents returned and noticed as faulty by the Evinox Supplier Quality Insurance department will be replace freeof charge.

Each faulty component must be accompanied by the following information:-
