Qualities of Leaders
According to ASQ Certified Manager of Quality/Organizational
Excellence Certification Preparation Handbook (2013), Leadership
can be described as getting people to WANT to follow a leaders
direction. This is different from just following, which can be
accomplished through fear of consequences. Compliance is no
substitute for enthusiasm. Therefore, the qualities or
characteristics of a leader which comes to my mind that I amdire
most are[1]:
1) Has a compelling vision of the future, on which the followers
have accepted it, Creates a way which are strategically aligned to
long term goals or vision,
2) Open for frequent communication and honest, 3) Has a factual
approach to decision making, especially for the subordinates to
determine if there is a progress, 4) Emphatetic or show of
concern to others, 5) Committed and held accountable, whatever the
outcome of the decisions, 6) Acknowledging mistakes and charging it
for the experience, instead of giving
punishment or blaming others, 7) People are defended for any
taken actions, whether good or bad 8) A model of right attitude by
doing the right thing 9) Motivate and inspire the people 10)
Respectful
I admire most our late church leader, who devoted and sacrifice
his entire life serving all the member of the church. Although he
has a very humble beginning, which all are just starting from
scratch, he has a strong compelling sense of vision and a mission
to spread the word of god. He successfully reaches the vision until
the end of his life, but the journey does not end. His successor
continues the right path started by the predecessor. In fact, a
tremendous result of spreading the word of God that until this date
are succeeding. The church spread all over the globe, in 102
countries and territories[5]. In addition to that, the church has
successfully built the world's largest indoor arena[3][5] and the
largest mixed-use indoor theater, which has been built for our
centennial celebration[3].
As a follower, I now enjoyed the fruits of his vision, his
sufferings and sacrifices, his love and fortitude. Above all,
everything is happening according to the will of God[2].
The leader I least admire is opponents of our church. Although
he is very charismatic and famous, he has a great envy and simply
creating a hoax story just to destroy the churchs reputation. The
church where I belong file a case against him and indeed win the
court case. The court has ordered him to pay a fine of PHP 100,000
for the supposed malicious and libelous remarks that he uttered in
his television show more than a decade ago[4].
In my own view, almost all the characteristics of this leader
who wants to ruin the credibility and reputation of our church is
simply a reversed character and nothing to be compared with.
