Who is a Whig?
A Whig aims to not be limited by definitions but defined by action. However, definitions are how people
can relate to ideas and organizations. A Whig is someone who is non- fringe, independent thinking, and
results oriented. A Whig is someone who wants to be active in the governing of our nation, whether that
be voting, collaborating on issues and solutions, or running for office and becoming a public servant. A
Whig is firm in principles, and flexible and rational in solutions.
The Modern Whig Party
Established in 1833, the Whigs are one of America's oldest mainstream political parties. We were theoriginal party of Abraham Lincoln and four other U.S. Presidents. Revived by Iraq and Afghanistan
veterans, this grassroots movement has quickly attracted thousands of new members. We representmoderate voters from all walks of life who believe in fiscal responsibility, and social tolerance andunderstanding in what has been called the Modern Whig Philosophy.
This Washington DC-based national movement values common sense, rational solutions ahead ofideology and partisan bickering. This includes general principles of fiscal responsibility, strong nationaldefense and educational/scientific advancement. In March 2010, TIME Magazine rated the Modern WhigParty as one of the "top 10 most popular political movements worldwide."
We are the party for the silent majority. You ask who will speak for you? We Will. You ask who has your
ideals in mind? We do. We are not the Republicans, We are not the Democrats, We are the best of both
and the worst of neither, we are the Whigs and we stand for you. We are the party for Everyday
Americans, not just those on the Left or Right, we are the party for those whose parties have lost sight of
who they serve, you! The people! The everyday American, We are your party, we are the Whigs!
Whig Associations will form to collaborate on ideas for policy. These ideas can be presented to
candidates and the MWP. People can collaborate with others on ideas, research and debate in a
civil manner. Candidates, citizens, and members can interact directly on an issue and policy level
as well as personal.
Civic Profiles-members and candidates will create civic profiles that track military and/or
community service, and involvement in the MWP. These will serve as the candidates public
biography.
Whig Academy- new members interested in running for office can take classes on debate, Whig
philosophy, US history, public service, and fiscal administration. This empowers citizens to run foroffice.
