Own Physical BullionFor thousands of years, precious metals have served

as the world’s purest form of true, tangible wealth. Gold, in particular, has served as the foundation for sound money throughout history while every fiat, or paper currency, has eventually failed.

Owning physical bullion offers you an ideal hedge as prices tend to move opposite of traditional investments like stocks, bonds, and the economy in general.

Understanding The Bullion Market Modern gold has our highest recommendation as

the ideal foundation for first-time buyers. Bullion refers to gold, silver, platinum or palladium in either coin or bar form.

Bullion’s primary value is derived from its intrinsic content, so bullion items move up and down with spot prices on the world market each day. It’s easy to track and very simple to buy and sell.

Spot prices for precious metals are set by global markets and change minute by minute. The listed spot price refers to the value for one troy ounce.

Bars normally range from sizes as small as one gram up to hundreds of ounces. Coins typically trade from 1/10th of an ounce up to one ounce. There are some newly minted coins that are struck in sizes greater than an ounce of metal.

Different bullion products trade for different premiums over the spot price. For example, a gold bar like the one pictured to the right can be acquired for less than the American Eagle shown next to it.

Silver bullion items typically follow the same guidelines as gold in terms of premiums. Bars sell for less than minted coins like Silver Eagles or Canadian Silver Maple Leafs.

The reason for this is bars are easier to manufacture. Government guaranteed coins are individually struck and given more care during production and shipping. This results in slightly higher prices in the wholesale and retail marketplace.

Which Bullion is Right for You?The type of bullion you choose to own is a very

important decision. Just because bars may be cheaper to acquire than minted coins doesn’t mean they’re the best option for you. If privacy plays a large part in your ownership of precious metals, then we normally advise against owning bars.

You see, both coins and bars are non-reportable and private when you acquire them. However, mandatory reporting may be triggered, at times, when you liquidate bullion bars. Most world gold coins, on the other hand, do not require invasive paperwork when you sell back to us or any other dealer– hence their popularity and slightly greater premiums.

If privacy is important to you, as it is to most of our clients, we urge you to call and speak with one of our Austin Advisors. They can oversee your acquisitions and guide you into the best types of bullion to accomplish your privacy needs, goals, and objectives.

Remember, by having the right information from the start, we can help you avoid future problems and allow you to fully maximize your precious metals investments.

If you have specific questions on the right bullion for you, call us at 1-800-928-6468 and we can begin the process together.

Gold American Eagles The Gold American Eagle is the most popular bullion coin in the world. Each one is minted in 22-karat gold and has been struck each and every year since 1986.

The obverse design is modeled after the $20 Saint Gaudens “Walking Liberty” design from 1907-1933, considered by many to be the most beautiful U.S. gold coin ever produced.

Denominations: Gold American Eagles are struck in 1, 1/2, 1/4 and 1/10th oz. sizes. Highly Recommended - H H H H H

Gold American BuffaloesThe Buffalo is the first and only 24-karat gold coin ever minted in the

United States. The first was struck in 2006. However, minting by the U.S. Mint has been interrupted repeatedly due to unexpectedly high demand for gold coins. Their beautiful design was modeled after the Buffalo nickels minted during the early 1900s.

Denominations: Gold American Buffaloes are normally struck in 1-ounce sizes only except for 2008, when 1/2, 1/4 and 1/10th ounce coins were also struck, which now bring a large premium. Recommended - H H H H

Gold Austrian Philharmonics The Philharmonic has been struck in 24-karat gold each year by

the Austrian Mint since 1989. The coin features musical instruments honoring the world famous Philharmonic Orchestra of Vienna. The obverse depicts the great pipe organ in Vienna's Concert Hall.

Denominations: Gold Austrian Philharmonics are normally struck in 1, 1/2, 1/4 and 1/10th ounce sizes. Philharmonics are thinner than most world bullion coins and have a larger diameter. Recommended - H H H H

British Sovereigns of King George V The British Empire has struck sovereign coins since 1817 and they

are well known around the world. Although they have been issued with other monarchs on the obverse, we typically offer those depicting King George due to their relative availability in mint condition and low premiums over their gold content. King George Sovereigns were issued only from 1911–1932 and contain .2354 ounces of pure gold each– or just under 1/4 of an ounce. The reverse depicts Benedetto Pistrucci’s classic design of St. George slaying a dragon.

Swiss 20 Franc HelvetiasHelvetias from Switzerland are an extremely popular way to acquire

fractional-sized gold. Swiss 20 Francs date from 1897 to 1935 and 1947 to 1949. Each coin contains .1867 ounces of pure gold– or just under 1/5th of an ounce. The obverse features the Swiss Miss, a national symbol of Switzerland, while the reverse shows the Swiss Cross surrounded by the value of 20 Francs, the date, and oak leaves. Swiss 20 Francs continue to be one of the most popular and cost-effective means of acquiring smaller-sized gold coins.

French 20 Franc RoostersMinted in the same size as the Swiss 20 Franc, the French 20 Franc

also contains .1867 ounces of pure gold– or just under 1/5th of an ounce. They are extremely popular due to their beauty and low premiums over their gold content. The obverse features a bust of France’s national symbol, Marianne. The reverse is a rendition of “le coq gaulois,” a Gallic Rooster. French 20 Franc Roosters were struck at the Paris Mint from 1899–1914 and continue to be one of the most traded fractional-sized gold coins around the world today.

French 20 Franc AngelsIssued from 1871–1898, French 20 Franc Angels contain .1867

ounces of pure gold or just under 1/5th of an ounce. The obverse design features a Standing Angel writing the Constitution along with a rooster at the right. The reverse features a denomination above the date within a wreath surrounded by the words “Liberte, Egalite, and Fraternite,” which is France’s motto meaning Liberty, Equality, and Fraternity.”
