NeverWinter Nights came out in 1991, when the game was real eased you had to pay $6 an hour to play online mode. The game style was 2D based with pixelated graphics in effort to make it look 3D. You were able to walk through doors, buy food, armour and weapons but these were text based. Fights were also texted based, The lack of modem speed, hosts and peak users is a big difference from todays games but it was a start on an era at the time.
Ultima Online came out in 1997, the game was instantly a big hit with 3D graphics and the ability to talk to players, to build your own house and earn money. You could style your character on the money you earn, the money also bought you weapons. Money could be earn by gathering recourses such as rock and wood, overtime your stats would go up and you could hold much more and gather it quickly. This game was a big step up from NeverWinter Nights.
World Of Warcraft came out in 2004, instantly becoming a even bigger hit than Ultima Online, consumers could enter this fantasy 3D world with characters you could personalise. The game had different worlds and within each would it had towns, villages, forests, mountains, etc. You were allowed to kill other players, monsters and animals to earn XP within the game; along with that there were quests to complete that allowed to you obtain weapons, money and items. The graphics are high def polygon graphics so it doesn’t give you pixelated images. World Of Warcraft is still played today.
