1. Installallsystemfuses.2. Settheamplifier’sinputsensitivity

controlstotheirminimumpositions(fullcounterclockwise).

3. Setallamplifiersignalroutingswitchesaccordingtoyoursystem’sdesign.

4. Makepreliminaryadjustmentstothecrossoverfrequency,usually80Hzisgoodstartingpointforhighandlowpass.Itmaybenecessarytofinetunethecrossoverfrequencylaterforthebestoverallsoundquality.

5. IfusinganXRB1RemoteLevelControl,setittomaximum(fullclockwise).

6. Turntheheadunitonwiththevolumesettominimum.

7. Visuallychecktheamplifier’shaspoweredonbythelogolightingblue.

8. Checktheconditionofallothercomponentstomakesuretheyarepoweredup.

9. Settheheadunit’stonecontrols,balance,andfadertothecenter(flat)position.Turnoffanyloudnessorothersignalprocessingfeatures.

10. Setthevolumecontroloftheheadunitformaximumundistortedoutput(onmostheadunitsthiswillbeapproximately7/8ofmaximumvolume).Useaveryclearanddynamicrecording.

11. Turnuptheinputsensitivitycontroluntilthespeakersreachmaximumundistortedoutput.

12. Repeatinputsensitivityadjustmentsforallotheramplifiers.

Note:TheExileamplifier’ssensitivity,bassboostandXRB1Levelcontrolshavenoaffectontheauxiliaryoutputs.AnamplifierconnectedtotheauxiliaryoutputsreceivesthesamesignallevelavailabletotheExileamplifier’sinputs(unitygain).

13. Reducetheheadunit’svolumetoacomfortablelevel.

14. Listentovariousmusicalselectionstocheckoverallsystembalance.Comparefronttorear,midbasstomidrange,etc.Ifonespeakersetistooloudcomparedtoanother,thenitslevelmustbeloweredtoblendcorrectlywiththeotherspeakers.Theideaistoreferenceallspeakerstotheweakestset.

Note:ForsubwooferscontrolledbyanExileXRB1levelcontrol,keepthesensitivitysettingfromstep11or12.UsetheXRB1toblendsubwooferswiththerestofthesystem.Thecorrectsubwoofervolumewillchangedependingonroadnoiseanddifferencesinrecordings.

15. Finetunecrossoverfrequenciestoachievethesmoothestpossibleblendingofeachspeakerset.

16. AdjusttheBassEqualizationControlsontheamplifier,headunitorprocessorupstreamifnecessarytoincreaseoutput.

Note:Usethesecontrolssparingly.Every3dBofboostrequiresdoublethepowerat45Hz.Ifyoursubwoofersystemrequiresalotofboosttosoundgood,theremaybeaproblem.Lookforout-of-phasewoofers,aleakingsubwooferbox,orincorrectboxsize.

17. Withalllevelssetcorrectly,thesystemwillreachoverallmaximumundistortedoutputatthevolumelevelsetinstep10.

System Tuning

INTEGRATED STATUS DISPLAYInsimpleterms,ISDisthebrainofyouramplifierandasmartoneatthat.Intechterms,it’sacomplexmicroprocessorcircuitthatconstantlymonitorsthesignal,poweroutputandprotectionconditionsoftheamplifier.Eachamplifierhasabuiltinbacklitdisplaythatshowstheenduserwhatishappeninginsidetheamplifier.

SIGNALLightsbluewhentheamplifierprovidessignaltoyourspeakers.

CLIPLightsredwhenamplifierreachesnearmaximumoutputandbeginstocliptheaudiosignal.ThisisverypowerfultoolasitallowsyoutosetupthesystemformaximumoutputwithouttheneedofanexpensiveandcomplicatedO-scope.Innormaloperationtheclipindicatorshouldbeflashingoftenduringdynamicpartsofthemusic,thisisnormal.Whatisnotnormalisifclipindicatorisstayinglitforlongportions(morethan4or5seconds)oftime,thenyouneedtoreducesystemvolumeorgainoftheamplifier.

PROTECTLightsredifthereisaproblemwiththeaudiosystem.Forexample,speakerwiregetspinched/shortedtogether,blownavoicecoilorrunningtoolowofanimpedance,theISDdisplaywillletyouknow.
