The sr-2 is the second generation of the Hanwell Smart Receiver. Itis a network enabled receiver, designed for collectingenvironmental monitoring data from multiple points within a site,or across multiple sites. In addition, it can be upgraded to atransceiver which both receives and retransmits the data. It usesstandard TCP/IP communications protocols for speedy datahandling. The network traffic generated is very low and data isautomatically sorted and filed.
This multipoint operation can be further expanded, with the use ofoptional GPRS, and used on a larger national or internationalbasis. See the diagram overleaf for some potential ways of usingthe sr-2, or contact Hanwell to discuss your site specificrequirements.
In addition to receiving data from the rl-2000, rl-4000, rl-5000 andrl-8000 ranges of sensors, the unit can also read hard-wiredsensors and, optionally, be fitted with up to eight on-boardprobes. Each sr-2 can handle data from up to 253 sensors, and upto 16 sr-2s can be run on a single system bringing it to a total of4048 sensors. The sr-2 supports Hanwell’s standard and extendedtransmission data formats.
The sr-2 logs all received data in its on-board 512kb memory. TheRadiolog software continually interrogates the sr-2 for the most
recent data, and downloads the data according to user-definedlogging periods to the server or operating PC. Software users canview live and historic data, produce out of spec and summary reportsand set alarms on both the data levels and the rate of change.
In addition to the data readings from the sensors, the sr-2 can logthe corresponding Received Radio Signal Indicators (RSSI) whichreveal the strength of radio reception of each Sensor. As well asbeing logged, the RSSI is indicated on the front LCD along withother status information. An optional remote Receiver can beconnected to improve radio reception in difficult areas.
The sr-2 is designed to be in constant communication with thesoftware but has user-configurable fallback behaviour in the eventof network or power failure. An on-board battery provides a UPSwith 2.3A/hour life to carry it through up to 12 hours’ powerdisruption (larger external UPSs are available as an optionalextra).
Alarm relays are included: these can indicate that the readings areout of specification, and can be optionally set to indicate anetwork failure. A MS BUS connection allows the sr-2 to drive theHanwell MS1000 environmental control system.

New from Hanwell is the rl5000 dpradiotelemetry transmitter, designed foruse withthe Radiolog 8 environmentalmonitoringsystem. The units are inIP65-rated cases andare suitable for usein tough environments.
Utilising an integral temperaturecompensated pressure sensor therl5000 differential pressure transmitterdelivers exceptional performance. Thesensor utilises a silicon, micromachined, stress concentrationenhanced structure to provide a verylinear output to the measured pressure. The ports are designed with matcheddead volumes. This series is intendedfor use with non-corrosive, nonionicworking fluids such as clean dry air, drygases and the like.
The media wetted materials are thesilicon diaphragm, glass filled nylon,RTV and alumina ceramic. Thetransmitter ID, transmission speed andcalibration data is programmed into itsonboard memory using Radiolog 8, asoftware package which automaticallyrecognises the type of unit connected tothe PC via the USB lead.
Fitted with a custom-designed LCD toindicate current readings, battery liferemaining and alarm conditions. Thereis an instantaneous display updatebutton located on the front panel.Pressure connections are made viaquick release Lemo pressureconnectors, which avoid damage to the
pressure sensor when disconnecting forcalibration.
The transmitter is typically powered bya 7.5V 2700mAh battery or 2 x LithiumC size 5 Ah that can be fitted by the user . The battery life will be dependant on thetransmission speed. Larger batterypacks are available, local power input isalso an option. An indicator on the LCDwill warn when the battery is low, andthe transmitter maintains a record ofwhen the battery has been changed. The rl-5000 range has been designed tocomply with the RoHS and WEEE EUdirectives, and carries the CE mark.

The rl4001 & rl4002 are precisionthermistor temperature measuring andradio transmission devices. The rl4001has a single channel the rl4002 is dualchannel. The sensors are connectedvia 2 pin Lemo plugs and sockets. They allow wire-free monitoring of asite, with real time alarm notificationand historical analysis of data. Each4000 unit reads its on-board sensorsproviding accurate and reliableinformation about environmentalconditions. This data is transmitted, atuser-defined intervals, to the Radiologsystem where it is filed for analysis.
rl4000 series transmitters can be usedin accordance with GAMP and FDAregulations. The transmitters andsensors can be calibrated by the eitheruser or Hanwell staff on-site or atHanwell’s in-house calibrationlaboratory.
Transmitter ID number andtransmission rate are set in thetransmitter using a simple softwareprogram (free to download) and a USBcable. Each unit has an LCD screensimultaneously displaying the mostrecent readings taken and the predictedbattery life. The transmitter is poweredby a single 3.6V AA Lithium battery, which can be fitted by the user.
The battery life will be dependent onthe transmission rate set. An indicatoron the LCD will warn when the batteryis low, and the transmitter maintains a
record of when the battery was lastchanged.
Each 4000 series radio transmitter hasenough internal memory to store up to100000 readings and is in factcontinually logging guaranteeing 100%validity of the data. The 4000 series unitcan be downloaded via the high speedUSB connection directly into the PCsoftware (V8.4 or later only). The datalogged will be added to the radio data, providing a continuous history for thattransmitter.
The moulded case allows easy accessto the battery and USB socket, as wellas having slots to fit onto secure wallbrackets.
CFR21 part 11 compliant software isavailable. OQ & IQ templates areincluded, full on-site validation servicesare available.
The 4000 range has been designed tocomply with the RoHS and WEEE EUdirectives, and carries the CE mark.

The rl4106 radio transmitter is one of anew range of advanced temperatureand humidity radio transmitters. Theyallow wire-free monitoring of a site, with real time alarm notification andhistorical analysis of data. Each rl4106unit reads its on-board sensors toprovide accurate and reliableinformation about environmentalconditions. This data is transmitted, atuser-defined intervals, to the Radiologfor Museums system where it is filedfor analysis.
The rl4106 has two sensors as standard:a precision temperature probe and ahigh quality humidity probe. Thesesensors can be mounted internally tothe transmitter body, externally on thecase or remotely on a probe. Anadditional surface temperature probecan be added to check the dewpointmargins. These sensors can becalibrated by the users or at Hanwell’sin-house calibration laboratory.
The ID number and transmission rateare set in the rl4106 using a simplesoftware program (free to download)and a USB cable. Each unit has an LCDscreen simultaneously displaying themost recent readings taken and thepredicted battery life.
