1. Welding When welding, be sureto wear all personal protectiveequipment for face and eyes, andhave adequate ventilation. Whenwelding, protect spring beams andair springs from weld spatter andgrinder sparks. Do not attach“ground” connection to springbeam or air spring.

2. Lifting Practice safe lifting pro-cedures. Consider size, shape, and weight of assemblies. Obtainhelp or the assistance of a cranewhen lifting heavy assemblies.Make sure the path of travel isclear.

3. Fastener Torque A fastener system is consid-ered “loose”, any time the torque is found belowrecommended values.

IMPORTANT: It is extremely Important, after the first1,000 to 3,000 loaded miles (1,600 - 4,800 KMS), that all ofthe bolt and nut tightening recommendations be fol-lowed. Any loose fasteners must be retorqued to complywith warranty requirements and to ensure long, trouble-free performance.

This symbol indicates to the reader to use cautionwhen seen and to follow specific requirements orwarnings stated. Specific Torque requirements areneeded here.

5. Torque Proper tightening of the U-bolt nuts, torque arm nuts, and track rod nuts are high priorityitems. Reyco recommends, during pre-delivery,after the first 1,000 to 3,000 loaded miles (1,600 -4,800 KMS) of operation and with each annual, “C,”inspection thereafter, that all of the bolt and nuttightening recommendations be followed. Failure tomaintain the specified torque and to replace wornparts can cause component failure, resulting in acci-dent with consequent injury.

Safe Weight Limit

4. Overloading Overloading is thepractice of transporting cargoesthat regularly surpass the specifiedvehicle’s ratings. Repeated over-loading can cause component fail-ure, resulting in accidents andinjuries.

6. Bushings Inspect rubber bushings forlarge splits, tears and major wear. Rubber isattacked by sun, oils and greases. Replaceany bushings which have the above damage.

15

IN SERVICE SUSPENSION ALIGNMENTINSTRUCTIONS

Place unloaded tractor on a level floor area. Move it back and forth several times, slowly andwithout using brakes, to free all suspension joints.Check front wheel with tractor brakes released. Before alignment, make certain that all beamsare not binding; that u-bolts and torque arm bolts are torqued to the manufacturers specifica-tions, and all bushings are in good condition. NOTE: If beams are in contact with sides of hangers, center them by adjusting length of lat-eral track rod(s), with shims behind frame bracket.Clamp an 8' piece of straight bar stock or angle iron securely after positioning it squarelyacross the frame. (The use of a carpenters square is recommended to be certain the bar issquare to the frame). The cross bar should be positioned as far forward of the drive axle as room will permit.Beginning on the fixed torque arm side, measure from the bar stock to the centerline of therear drive axle on both sides. See figure below. If the measurements, x1 and x2, vary more than 1⁄8", alignment adjustment should be madethrough the adjustable torque arm side. After aligning, tighten the 5⁄8" adjustable torque arm clampblots to 125-150 ft. lbs. Tighten the older 3⁄4" clamp nuts to175-200 ft. lbs. if so equipped.Once the rear drive axle is properly aligned, the front axle can then be aligned to the rear withthe use of a standard trammel bar.Following the alignment of both axles, it is recommended that it be driven through a shortseries of turns and then returned to the shop and the alignment rechecked, after again free-ing all suspension joints by moving it back and forth several times.Check the alignment after the first 1,000- 3,000 loaded miles, (1,600-4,800 kms) of operationduring annual, “C”, inspections.

FASTENERS

Loose fasteners need immediateattention. Check components forwear and be sure holes are notworn or egg shaped. When replac-ing be sure threads are clean, lubri-cated and not deformed; consultthe maintenance section for thecorrect torque specification andreplace any fastener which is dam-aged or won’t stay torqued. If boltsneed to be replaced be sure to usethe same grade of fastener.

HEIGHT CONTROLVALVE

Always exhaust air out of the sys-tem and allow the unit to raise tothe level the valve is set to main-tain. This will help maintain a con-sistent method for the maintenanceof ride height. Setting the rideheight should be done withthevehicle on level ground. See pg 12for adjustment proceudre.
