1. Modal verbs are always followed by an infinitive without to.

e.g. You should eat more fruit.

You mustn’t smoke.

2) Modal Verbs don’t add (-s) to the third person singular.

e.g. Your brother should do some exercise.

She must drink more water.

3) Modal verbs don’t need auxiliaries for negative, interrogative or short answers.

e.g. Must I stop smoking?_ Yes, you must.

Should I stop eating bread?_ No, you shouldn’t. You should eat wholemeal bread.

HAVE TO

Have to is not a modal verb regarding its form:The third person singular takes (-s).e.g. She has to do more exercise.

It is followed by infinitive with to.e.g. We have to sleep at least 8 hours a day.

It needs auxiliaries for negative, interrogative and short answers.

e.g. Do I have to stop eating cereal? _ No, you don’t.
