Subject: Creative Writing
Crew1 Writing on Demand Fri 11th Dec
To prepare for the Writing on Demand Paper: Complete the following 3 tasks:
A local charity is running a campaign bringing attention to the way stress can affect the lives of teenagers and young adults. You have been commissioned to write a 300 word fictional account, using a central character, to show the effects of stress. This will be used in the campaign. You may choose the form and content of the piece but it should create an impact on your audience. Write your account.
A national newspaper runs a monthly column where different contributors describe their ideal restaurant. This month it is looking for descriptions of the ideal restaurant. Write a 300 word submission describing your ideal restaurant. The restaurant may be real or imagined but you must explain why you think it is an ideal place.
Perfect Garden magazine publishes stories about gardening and management experiences. You have spoken over the phone to a reader who wishes to contribute a story. You now need to turn your notes from this conversation into a descriptive and interesting account of their garden. Perfect Garden magazine requires these accounts to be written in the third person. Write a 300 word account of Simon’s gardening experience that will be published in the magazine.
Simon, aged 35 • He was living in a run down old build house with what looked like a dumping ground for a garden. • First time home buyer. • Has a dog who needs a garden and likes to keep a number of fish. • His neighbours complained that his garden was ruining their experience of being in their own gardens. • Worked on the garden for 11 months to get it perfect. • Now grows 14 different types of vegetables and plants (he now a vegetarian due to this). • Got into debt to fund his garden project. • Had issues with the council for wanting to get two problems trees cut down. • Neighbours then complained that his garden looked better than theirs. • Simon’s popularity within the street has now grown and he hosts a number of garden parties during the evenings to share his ‘perfect’ garden.
