Introduction

Buildsafe’s Mobile Scaffold system is a temporary mobile working platform which provides protection for a person installing trusses, cladding, fascia, gutter, plasterboard as well as general construction work for both commercial or residential buildings. The Scaffold can also provide a safe means of access to different working heights.

Ladder access is provided within the system, allowing for easy access to and from the Work-ing Platform.

MOBILE SCAFFOLD - INSPECTION CHECKLIST

Use the Installation checklist provided below to conduct installation audits, make sure that you reference the content in the handbook for further information. If further information is required please contact Buildsafe. Questions which are not applicable put N/A in Yes field.

NSWAny work within 4m of ALL power lines need referral to thenetwork operator for any special conditions which need to be complied with.

If you are required to work within these distances ensure the client has sort advice from thepower supply company (e.g. Energex - QLD) and has acted on advice given prior to beginningthe installation/dismantle.

1. Has the system been erected within the electrical “No Go Zones/Exclusion Zones”?

a = Depth of Trench

2 x a

Scaffold must not be installed within a distance of 2 x the depth of a trench. Installing a Scaffold within this distance could cause the side of the trench to corrode and the Scaffold to collapse.

2. Is the scaffold erected a safe distance away from trenches or excavations?

AUSTRALIAN STANDARDS FOR MOBILE SCAFFOLDS

A Mobile Scaffold is an independent Scaffold that is freestanding and mounted on Castor Wheels or Screw Jacks.

Mobile Scaffolds must be provided with information regarding safe use and erection. If Scaffolding is to be altered, contact the manufacturer or supplier for additional guidance. All modular Mobile Scaffolds are to be erected in accordance with manufacturer’s specifications. The following control measures should be implemented for Mobile Scaffolds:• The height of a Mobile Scaffold, from the bottom of the Scaffold to the working platform,

should be no greater than three times the minimum base dimension. When Outriggers have been used the base dimensions are measured between the outer most sides of the Outrigger’s Feet.

• Mobile Scaffold height is not greater than three times the least base dimension and does not require Outriggers.

• Mobile Scaffold height is greater than three times the least base dimension and does require Outriggers to extend the base dimension.

• Ensure Outriggers are attached greater than half the height measured from the ground to the working platform height.

• Only two Outriggers can be used when the Mobile Scaffold has been installed up next to a structure.

• In this situation both the Outriggers and the structure would prevent the Mobile Scaffold from falling over.

MOBILE BRACES

Mobile Scaffold is given structural integrity by installation of braces in specific spots on the frame, the braces need to be secured to the frame by engaging the Brace Graspers, below is an image of two Graspers. The Grasper on the left is engaged and lock on the frame where the grasper on the right is not engaged and is not locked on to the frame.

4. Are the attached Braces locked onto the frame and locked properly?

No greater than 10mm

5. Are the gaps between the platform decks no greater than 10mm?

The gap between each individual deck can be no greater than 10mm.

MOBILE BRACES CONT

Mobile Scaffold Decks need to be sitting correctly over the frame, the deck feet need to be sitting over the frame to ensure they are fully supported.

7. Are the Deck feet correctly sitting above the frame and fully supported?

Below is the correct and incorrect way to attach Mobile Scaffold brances,

6. Are the attached Braces attached in the correct direction onto the frames?

CASTOR WHEELS

Castor Wheels must be locked at all times and can only be unlocked when the Mobile Scaf-fold is being moved. Ensure the Outriggers have been adjust 100mm off the ground to stabi-lise the Scaffold while it is being moved.Lock and unlock the Castor Wheels using the Brake Lever:• Up is unlocked• Down is locked

Unlocked Locked

8. Are Castor Wheels locked at all times when not being moved?

Mobile Scaffold Tower must have toeboards installed in every working level, toeboards will prevent materials and tools from being kicked/pushed from the working deck

9. Are Toe Boards fitted to all working platforms?

TOEBOARDS

10. Does the slope of the surface exceed 5 ?o

Where Castor Wheels are used, the slope of the surface should not exceed 5 . If so, castors will need to be removed and Jacks fitted.

o

11. If utilized, is the access ladder positioned at an angle between 70° - 80° (4:1 ratio)?

COMPLETING THE INSTALL

The completed Mobile Scaffold must be inspected prior to Handover and a Handover Certificate must be completed and fixed in a pouch next to the Access Point.

12. Is there a safe access and egress point to the mobile scaffold?

13. Has the “Handover Certificate” been positioned at the access point on the Mobile Scaf-fold System?

Workers must be provided with safe access to and descend from Scaffold during the erection, use and dismantling of Scaffolding.

Use the following summary point as a guide when conducting the inspection:

• The “Handover Certificate” has been positioned at the access point on the Mobile Scaffold System.

• The system is not erected within the electrical “No Go Zones/Exclusion Zones”• The is scaffold erected a safe distance away from trenches or excavations• Does the slope of the surface exceed 5°.• The attached Braces are locked onto the frame and locked properly• The attached Braces are attached in the correct direction onto the frames.• Castor Wheels are locked at all times when not being moved• The Scaffold Platform is at the correct height for its intended use.• The Deck Feet are correctly sitting above the frame and fully supported.• The gaps between the Platform Decks are no greater than 10mm.• Toe Boards are fitted to all Working Platforms.• Is there a safe access and egress point to the Mobile Scaffold.• If utilized, is the Access Ladder positioned at an angle between 70° - 80° (4:1 ratio)?
