7 FAQ

Mobile Broadband Manager

The data transfer is very slow, what can I do?

Some homes and most offices are steel-framed structures. The steel in such buildings may

interfere with your network’s radio signals, thus causing a slowdown in the data

transmission rate. Try moving your notebooks to different locations in the building to see if

performance improves.

You may have moved from 3G (UMTS/HSPA) to 2G (GPRS/EDGE) coverage. The type of

coverage is indicated in the signal strength meter. If you have a 3G subscription, try moving

Page 29: Mobile Broadband Manager User Guide 20100517111940 88

back to the 3G coverage area in order to increase the data transfer speed.

Your notebook may be connected to another Local Area Network connection. This condition

occurs if you dock your system into a docking station that has an active Ethernet port while

your Mobile Broadband Module is still active and connected. This is because Windows must

now handle two active network connections. Try choosing only one of the connections.

A VPN connection can make the transfer slower.

My connection is active but I cannot browse web pages, what can I do?

In Internet Explorer, go to Tools, Internet Options, Connections, LAN Settings and un-check

the Proxy Server checkbox.

You may need to configure a proxy server for your web browser. Check with your system

provider or network administrator. To enter the configuration, go to Tools- Internet Options-

Connections- LAN Settings.

SMS Utility

I have written an SMS and sent it but it is still in the Outbox.

The radio might be disabled or you have no service in this area.

The messages written while disconnected and saved in the Outbox, can be sent next time a

connection is established. In order for this to work the function Send messages in Outbox

automatically upon connection must be selected. It is also possible to send the messages

manually next time a connection is established.

Please check that the service number to your operator is correct.

I can not access the contacts on my SIM card.

Please check that the SIM card is properly inserted in the notebook.

I have sent several text messages to the same person but they do not come through.

Check the phone number. It may be a number that cannot accept text messages.
