Number Portability (NP) enables a subscribers to

• Switch between Services.

• Locations

• O erators..

While retaining the original Telephone number without compromising on quality, reliability andoperational conveniences.

3 Types of Number Portability (NP)

• Operator Portability.

– FNP-Fixed Number Portability

– MNP- Mobile Number portability.

– INP- No Geographic IN Number Portability

• Location Portability.

• Service Portability.




Mobile Number Portability (MNP) allows mobile subscribers toretain their existing mobile phone number (MS-ISDN) when theyswitch from one access service provider to another.

Subscribers can move or ‘port’ the phone numbers betweenservice providers of same nature- i,e. Mobile to Mobile.

MNP-Implementation

Mobile Number Portability (MNP) can be implemented inMobile network as IMSI identifies the MS(Mobile Station) and stored in SIM.

IMSIMS-ISDN correspondence is stored in HLR.

MSISDN is used in call routing in PLMN/ISDN area.

The Tele-density and Growth (50-55%) of MobileConnections at July 2005 was right time to implementMNP.
