ApplicationsAmerCable’s Type MMV medium voltagemarine cables are for use aboardcommercial ships, mobile offshoredrilling units (MODUs), and fixed orfloating offshore facilities.

Features■ These cables utilize flexible

stranded conductors, braided shieldsand a braided armor (when armored)which make them very suitable forapplications involving repeated flexingand high vibration.

■ These cables have a small minimumbending radius (6xOD for unarmoredcables and 8xOD for armored cables) for easy installation.

■ Optional uninsulated groundingconductors sized per UL 1072.

■ The increased flexibility of this cableallows for termination of one end and coiling on multiple moduleoffshore platforms. Then coiling andterminating other end when modulesare mated at sea thereby reducinginstallation time.

■ Passes IEC 332-3 Category A andIEEE 1202 flame tests.

Conductor ShieldA combination of semi-conducting tape andextruded thermosetting semi-conductingmaterial meeting UL 1309, IEEE 1580, ICEA S-68-516 and UL1072.

Armor (optional)(Optional) 0.0126" bronze braid providing 88%minimum coverage meeting UL 1309 and IEEE Std. 45-1998.

JacketA black, arctic grade, flame retardant, oil, abrasion,chemical and sunlight resistant thermosettingcompound meeting UL 1309, IEEE 1580, ICEA S-68-516 and UL 1072. Colored jackets for signifyingdifferent voltage levels are also available on specialrequest (ie. yellow = 5kV, orange = 8kV and red = 15kV).

Sheath (optional)A black, arctic grade, flame retardant, oil,abrasion, chemical, and sunlight resistantthermosetting compound meeting UL 1309, IEEE 1580, ICEA S-68-516 and UL 1072. Colored jackets for signifying different voltagelevels is also available on special request (ie. yellow = 5kV, orange = 8kv and red = 15kV).

Metallic ShieldComposite shieldconsisting of 0.0126"tinned copperbraided with nylonproviding 60%copper Shieldedcoverage meetingUL 1309, IEEE Std. 1580,ICEA S-68-516 andUL 1072. The nylonis colored for easyphase identification(three conductor =black, blue, red)without the need toremove the shield tofind an underlyingcolored tape.

Insulation ShieldSemi-conducting tape, with overlap, for fastand easy termination meeting UL 1309, IEEE 1580, ICEA S-68-516 and UL 1072.

ConductorsSoft annealed flexiblestranded tinned copperper IEEE 1580 Table 11.

Ampacities are based on API RP 14F (June 1999) Table 4 or 5 for single conductorcables and Table 3 for multi-conductorcables. The notes to these tables are alsoapplicable. Ampacities are also based on a90°C conductor temperature and a 45°Cambient temperature.

Inductive reactance and voltage drop valuesare based on a 90°C conductor temperatureand 60 Hz operation. Values for singleconductor cables are based on asymmetrical triangular configuration.
