With the beginning of the 21st century, Breast Cancer is considered one of the emergingleading causes of death among females in Egypt. The vast majority of women dying of Cancer inEgypt “37 %”, die of Breast Cancer (Egyptian National Cancer Institute, 2008). For many yearsthere has been a complete silence about it, and resistance to talk about the issue, and that helpedthe disease to get wild and break not only the woman herself, but the entire family that she’s theglue of.
Statistics show that in Egypt the overall rates of the disease is less than many countries at theinternational rates, but the mortality rates are higher, and that’s due to late diagnosis, wrongbelieves, and lack of awareness. And that is what we’d planned to help in changing through thisproject.
This Initiative aimed at getting universities' students in Egypt1 involved, particularly, as an effectiveeducational tool for their mothers, their peers and themselves eventually. And that happen throughproviding awareness tools, in a creative way matching the target age group (17 – 25 years old), aswell as the project’s team themselves.
The project’s team mainly consisted basically of females and males medical students whom aremembers at the International Federation of Medical Students in Egypt , and other interestedactivists, and they are considered the seeds of future medical staff that would be able to provideeducational resources to their communities.It’s also worth mentioning that the 2 applicants for this grant, along with 4 other team members, arethe graduates of the Course For The Cure ; which is an international professional training on healtheducation, under the auspice of the Komen's Global Initiative for Breast Cancer Awareness.
That course aims at constructing dynamic network of dedicated activists who have the skills,knowledge, and the vision to perform a strategic role in fighting Breast Cancer in Egypt. The trainingcourse took place in the Institute of International Education in Egypt, with the generous help of theUS-AID.
The Initiative team is proudly sharing with you the components and the achievements of our workthrough this systemized report. With all gratitude and appreciation to the all support and motivationwe received from our partners and Universities' authorities. We wish for a continuous cooperationand hope for seeing a better future for women's health in Egypt, because simply, they just deserve

Activity two\ Breast Cancer Campaign
Awareness Campaign Targeting Students at Misr University for Science and Technology.Held on: 30th, 31st of October 2011.
Location: Misr University for Science and Technology.
The campaign stations:
Basic AwarenessStation.
Where the educators provide students with information about:1- Methods of Early detection.2- Risk Factors.3- Educational leaflet distribution4- Symptoms and signs of Breast Cancer
On the Run Station.If the students do not have enough time to go through all the station, theycould go to “on the Run station” and educators will give them a brief of all thepervious stations.
Bracelets and wish-es Station.
Where students could buy bracelets to support the cause and write their wish-es for breast cancer patients in Egypt and their hope for the future.
At the end of the campaign, we held a contest for Female students and a voucher for a month at Curves gymwas given to the winners.

To see a our community free from Female Genital Mutilation, to prevent further mutilations and toprotect all the girls all over Egypt from this inhuman act, while respecting their reproductive and humanrights. To develop accessible resources for the FGM awareness, through which medical students are sensitizedand empowered to take on a significant role in preventing Female Genital Mutilation and increase the publicawareness among youth about the risks and dangers of this act. Through a joined effort, we wish to enable afriendly environment to deal with FGM and associated problems and complications far from myths and relatedstigma.
Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) comprises all procedures that involve partial or total removal of the externalfemale genitalia, or other injury to the female genital organs for non-medical reasons. The practice is mostlycarried out by traditional circumcisers, such as attending childbirths. Increasingly, however, FGM is beingperformed also by medically trained personnel FGM is recognized internationally as a violation of the human rightsof girls and women. It constitutes an extreme form of discrimination against women. It is nearly always carried outon minors and is a violation of the rights of children. The practice also violates a person's rights to health, securityand physical integrity, the right to be free from torture and cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment, and the rightto life when the procedure results in death. Procedures are mostly carried out on young girls sometime betweeninfancy and age 15, and occasionally on adult women. In Africa, about three million girls are at risk for FGMannually. The practice is most common in the western, eastern, and north-eastern regions of Africa, in somecountries in Asia and the Middle East.

Target Group Medical Students at Universities.
Status of FGM in Egypt
FGM is widely practiced social tradition in Egypt. It is usually performed on pre-pubescent girls,often without anesthetic or precautions against infection. The procedure in Egypt is usually performed ongirls between the ages of 9 to 12 years, prior to the onset of puberty. In the past, the procedure -involvingremoval of the clitoris, together with the excision of all or part of the labia minora – was generally car-ried out by traditional birth attendants (days) and "health barbers" (who also perform circumci-sion of boys). The operation was frequently done without an anesthetic, using knives or razors. Inrecent years, however, more than 60 percent of circumcisions have been performed by physiciansand nurses. A 2005 report by UNICEF suggested that 97% of Egyptian women between the ages of15 and 49 who have never been married have undergone some form of FGM or circumcision. A morerecent study by the Egyptian government found that 50.3% of girls aged 10 to 18 have been circum-cised. Through the last decade, the FGM medicalization in Egypt became the most challenging part ofthe work on FGM prevention. Despite a Ministerial decree prohibiting medical personnel from per-forming this practice, FGM/C in Egypt is still performed by physicians and other trained medi-cal personnel in hospitals, public and private health clinics. 75% of circumcisions done todaughters have been performed by trained medical personnel according to EDHS. In 2005. Dayas, ortraditional birth attendants, perform the remaining circumcisions (22%). The medicalization of FGM/Cin Egypt is one of the main obstacles in achieving substantial impact in FGM/C abandonment initiatives.In 2007, we in IFMSA-Egypt, conducted a short survey among 2150 medical students from 10 differ-ent medical schools. and after the analysis o it, we found some points that lead us to the importance ofdesigning this peer education project, and here are some of them:
- The majority whom disagreed about it was unexpected; also with the 12% none selected, that shows theincrease of the liability to make a change in the attitude towards FGM.
- There were some differences in the percentage between each medical school and the other, whichshows the variety according to the place and the socioeconomic status.
- The survey showed the widespread misunderstanding & lack of information among the youth generallyand the medical students specially, about the magnitude of the FGM in Egypt and also the lake of themedical and the sexual education that should not be found in medical students.
- 90% of the students agreed with the presence of the medical complications after this proce-dure!
Which shows the power of the wrong traditions & religious believes those made people do this act with-out being convinced!
- 50% of the students thought that it will be safe if the practice is done by a doctor. We found this re-sult is very threatening, as it shows how the future doctors are thinking about the possibility for thedoctor to practice such act because they are doctors, and they could make it safer.

Goals and Objectives
The main goal of the project is to reduce the percentage of the medicalization of the practice inEgypt by ensuring that medical students adopt negative attitude towards FGM through targetingmedical students in universities in Egypt
To develop interactive resources on FGM suitable for peer education activities and create a cadre of coretrainers in universities
Conduct campaigns in universities to raise awareness and contribute to creating a positive attitude amongst medi-cal students regarding the issue
Project Activities
According to our target group, which will be mainly the Medical students and youth generally,we will be moving in two directions; one is stopping the practice of FGM by doctors through theeducation of medical students, the other is by creating a rejection among youth and public to-wards FGM

Interactive Training was carried out for 30 trainees to build a team of health educators capable of delivering themessage to the public.

Hypertension and Diabetes are becoming more prevalent in our community with the increasingstress, faster life style and bad eating habits.
The estimated prevalence of hypertension in Egypt according to statistics by EHS was 26.3%.Hypertension prevalence increased progressively with age, from 7.8% in 25- to 34-year-olds to56.6% in those 75 years or older. Hypertension was slightly more common in women than inmen (26.9% versus 25.7%, respectively). Overall, Only 37.5% of hypertensive individuals wereaware that they had high blood pressure, 23.9% were being treated with anti hypertensivemedications, and 8.0% were under control.
Diabetes is also a serious disease, which, if not controlled, can be life threatening. It is oftenassociated with long-term complications that can affect every system and part of the body andits prevalence in Egypt is also increasing
Diabetes can, among other things, contribute to eye disorders and blindness, heart disease,stroke, kidney failure, amputation, and nerve damage. It can affect pregnancy and cause birthdefects, as well.
Although diabetes is a chronic and incurable disease (with the exception of gestationaldiabetes), with proper medical care, clinical therapies, diet, hygiene, and exercise, symptomsand complications can be successfully treated and managed.
Therefore tackling both issues in a growing young community is essential taking in mind theprevention and control measures.

Introduction
Peace is a controversial subject especially when it is held from the non-political point of view. As stated in theproposal that "over the last few decades we didn't have a real opportunity to express our views or to listen toothers. As a result, we don't accept the diversity whether in opinion or affiliation, we want to increase theawareness of peace in Egypt about peace culture and we will stress on the culture diversity and that each indi-vidual has the right to exp ess his opinion without being accused of treason or illiteracy".

A meeting was held with the principle of an American School but due to exams we decided to be at the beginningof the next term ( the project will end at 21st of September but this also will continue the circle of peace ) and as analternative there are libraries and summer schools.

1st of September (1st meeting):Iman Alagami proposed the idea of making the event on larger scale and bringing celeberties as Hamza Namirah.
Zahraa Ismael was appointed to be the head of fundraising team which also includes:1-) Iman Alagami.2-) Bassant Adel.3-) Norhan Talaat.Mo'men Zaki ( Project Manager at Masterpeace) said that in order to afford a bigger venue, catering and the cele-berties we will need a budget of 65 thousands pounds.
2nd of September: Marwa Badr Yamany and Mo'men Zaki went with Iman Alagami to meet the organizers of MUST Opera Houseand she was able to get about 8,000 EGP discount so that the hall rent reached 10,000 EGP instead of 18,000 EGP.Sponsers:Due to short time that was given to the fundraising team they were only able to meet the executive manager of Nar-coon Egypt who also could get Youth for human rights too but unfortunately the latter needed more time to reply.They were able to contact restaurant for catering , that saved 5,000 – 8,000 EGPChanges done:We had three teams: Fundraising Team Media Team Logistics TeamBut Nora Algharabawy (National Officer on Human Rights and Peace), Mohamed Saber(National Coordinator ofPeace Project) and Marwa Badr(Head of the OC) met with NGOs and they decided that the teams will be: Registration Team Setup TeamVenue: Faculty of Political Science (Cairo University).Future plans: Meeting will be held on 19th of September for rehearsal.

The Execution of such project among different age groups and cultures was the main challenge to us, to becapable to spread a whole new and different meaning of peace and prove that there are other aspects forpeace other than that it is the opposite of WAR.

Blood donation Campaigns
Mission & Vision:
Not many people know that each whole blood donation can save as many as three
lives or that blood cannot be manufactured and can only be received as a gift from
the people. Statistics show that 25 percent or more of us will require blood at least
once in our lifetime, why should we only act as takers? Why not give something in
return? Give life.
Anemia is also a huge issue in our countries due to the interfamilial marriages and
poor nutrition amongst other things. Tackling an issue like this, at the blood
donation campaign, will be greatly beneficial to the public, who are quite under-
informed about public health in general, the thing I’ve noticed from previous
campaigns.
Project Goals:
Raise awareness about blood donation and why it is extremely important.
Raise awareness about anemia, and ways to avoid it.
Introducing more people to our University’s blood bank, as not many
students know of it.
Put MMSA on the grid, not only to medical students, but to the university
as a whole.
Put SCORP out there, and let people know what it’s about.

who have just drawn blood.
Bracelets and
wishes Station.
Where students could buy bracelets to support the cause and write their
wishes for breast cancer patients in Egypt and their hope for the future.
