PICTURE MAKE-UP DAY HAS BEEN CHANGED TO TUESDAY, OCTOBER 8TH.

IF STUDENTS HAVE NOT YET HAD THEIR PICTURE TAKEN PLEASE ENCOURAGE THEM TO GO TO PICTURE MAKE-UP ON OCT 8th. STUDENTS DO NOT HAVE TO PURCHASE A PICTURE PACKET TO HAVE THEIR PICTURE TAKEN, BUT NEED TO HAVE THEIR PICTURE TAKEN IN ORDER TO BE IN OUR YEARBOOK AND TO GET A STUDENT ID CARD. Students are encouraged to wear “best dress” –

especially our senior students!!! Extra order packets are in the front office, or you may go to Bell Photo’s website to order and pay for pictures: www.bellphoto.com You will need to enter our school code: mmhsnebofall2019. Pictures are here for students who had their pictures taken and paid for on our original Picture Days and will be passed out in A1 classes tomorrow, Oct 1st. If you choose to have retakes on Oct 8th, please bring your picture packet to give to Bell Photo to have your picture retaken.

NEBO TOURNAMENT BANDS COMPETITION

On Saturday, September 28th, the MMHS Marching Band competed in the Nebo Tournament of Bands Marching Competition at Payson High School. The band soared in their performance, and many judges and spectators were very complimentary of our show. The Band was awarded Outstanding Visual Performance, Outstanding Percussion, and they placed 1st out of 11 bands in the 5A Scholastic Division. Way to go!!

UTAH COLLEGE APPLICATION WEEK OCTOBER 1st – 4th

Maple Mountain High School will be hosting Utah College Application Week October 1st-4th to encourage all

seniors to apply to at least one college if they haven’t already done so. Students should come to school that

week knowing where they want to apply and should be prepared to fill out a college application by bringing the

necessary information like their Driver’s License Number and their Social Security Number.

FAFSA COMPLETION NIGHT

FAFSA Completion Night will be held on Thursday, October 3rd from 5:00-8:00 pm. in the Maple Mountain

High School Library Lab. Parents and students who would like support filling out the Free Application for

Federal Student Aid should attend this night.

MMHS BLANKETS

Our MMHS blankets are here and for sale in our book store. These nice blankets are wonderful Christmas,

birthday, and graduation gifts! Stop by today and purchase yours! (Limited supply) MMHS Attendance Information Students who have accrued over 10 hours of missed class time due to tardies, unexcused absences, or sluffs, are

not eligible to participate in any extracurricular school activities, athletics, or events until they have made up

their missed class time. In order to be eligible, students need to make-up time to be under 10 hours. Students

are responsible for monitoring their missed class time balance and serving the hours necessary to be eligible for

participation in school events. Students who are over 10 hours of missed class time receive a Non-Participation

Notice each week. Athletes receive an additional notification that needs to be signed by Mrs. Richins or Mrs.

Davis, and taken to their coach verifying they are eligible to participate. Please encourage your student to

recover their learning and make-up their missed class time through one of the following options:

Make up time with a classroom teacher before or after school

Attend a math or science lab before or after school

Serve time in lab C-207 during lunch or after school

If you need to excuse any absences for your student, you may do so within five days of the absence by

contacting our attendance office at 801-794-6740.

MMHS DRIVER EDUCATION The October Driver Education class will start on Thursday, October 3rd at 7:00 PM in the MMHS auditorium. Students are required to attend the parent meeting as it is their first class and are encouraged to bring at least one parent. The meeting will last until about 8:00 PM. Class will then be held every school day from Friday, October 4th until Wednesday, November 6th from 6:00 – 7:30 AM in room E-202. Class will not be held from Thursday, October 17th through Friday, October 25th. Class will resume again on Monday, October 28th. For those enrolled in the class, we will start each morning at 6:00 AM. Don’t be late. Bring your permit and something to write with on Friday, the 4th. Enter through the doors to the right of the flag pole, (by the cafeteria), go down the “E” hallway, and up the stairs to room E-202.

Zero Fatalities. The Zero Fatalities group from Salt Lake City will be here for their monthly presentation to the driver education students and parents. This presentation is required for students, but is open to the general public. Anyone is welcome to attend. It is a great presentation that adults and teens can benefit from. It will be held on Thursday, October 3rd in the MMHS Auditorium. It begins at 7:00 PM and will end about 8:00 PM.

PSAT There are still a few spots left to sign up to take the PSAT on Wednesday, October 16th. The PSAT serves as a practice test for the SAT as well as the qualifying test for the National Merit Scholarship. Sophomores and Juniors may take the test. In order to be considered for the National Merit Scholarship, the PSAT must be taken during the fall of your Junior year. The test will be limited to 35 students, and the deadline to register is

Friday, October 4th. The cost of the test is $20.00, and you can register by paying at my schoolfees.com or directly to the Finance Office. See your Counselor if you have questions or would like more information about the benefits of taking the PSAT.

Registering For the AP Exam *Deadline: Friday, October 25th

*The College Board has changed the registration process for the AP exams this year. The exams will still be given during the first 2 weeks of May, but the registration is happening much earlier in the school year. Please make sure you follow all of the steps, and pay attention to the deadlines so you don’t get stuck paying the late fee. To Register for an AP Exam:

1- Create an account at myap.collegeboard.org. 2- Join your AP Class Section using the join code that your teacher gives to you. 3- Pay for the exam. The cost for each AP exam is $94. You can pay this by logging onto

myschoolfees.com or directly to the Finance Office. We recommend that you pay the entire amount when registering. However, there is the option to pay a $40 deposit before the October 25th deadline, with the remaining amount due March 6th.

*All of these steps must be completed to be registered for the exam. *After the 1st of November there is a $40 late fee as well as a $40 fee for any exams that are cancelled. ** If you need help, or have any questions please see Miss Mattinson in the Library.
