Pre-Assignment ASSIGNMENT 1 YouTube Video Conductor Review Write a 3-5page review of a choral conductor, typed and double-spaced. The conductor does not necessarily have to be well-known. The camera angle must be on-stage, facing the front of the conductor. Please be sure to include URL as well as the conductor’s name, date of performance, ensemble, title of composition, composer and/or arranger in addition to any other important information. Suggestions on things to observe and comment: Technique: - posture; effective use of elbow, wrist, hand, baton; clarity of patterns; clarity of ictus; use of vertical and horizontal planes Musicianship: -appropriate styles; dynamic contrasts conveyed; changes in tempi executed; use of appropriate cues; left hand independence; use of good facial expressions. Leadership and Professionalism - appropriate eye contact and presence/confidence Summary -What did you learn from this observation? ASSIGNMENT 2: Select 2 pieces of choral music (SAB or SATB), contrasting styles, both which should be appropriate for a high school or middle school choir, and prepare to conduct a 15-minute rehearsal for BOTH on the first day of class. In addition, one piece must be a cappella and the other must be accompanied. Please be sure to bring enough copies for the class including the accompanist and instructor, approximately 20 copies. Please note that this is preparation for first day conducting practicum.
