A Note from the Executive Director, Donald Bluestone
This 2013-2014 program year promises to be one of the best andmost exciting here at the Mosholu Montefiore Community Center.
We have succeeded in receiving many new grants to improve ourprograms and offerings. Our Federal Head Start Program, servingthree to four-year-olds, has expanded from 51 children to 280children. Universal Pre-Kindergarten for all four-year-olds, hasexpanded with three additional full-day classes and five half-dayclasses. We have converted two classrooms on our first floor toaccommodate an increase in demand and serve more Head Startchildren. We also renovated the Van Cortlandt Jewish Center at3880 Sedgwick Avenue to open eight additional classrooms forour Child Development Center (CDC).
I am thrilled to announce renovations were completed at ourbeautiful Mosholu Day Camps at Harriman State Park located inBear Mountain.
A new Boys & Girls Club site, featuring an excellent Teen Center, opened its doors in August to serve the Parkchester community. An additional Out-of-School Teens (OST) Programs will commencein November. PS41 on Olinville Avenue and MS 244 The NewSchool for Leadership and the Arts at 231st Street and SedgwickAvenue will house these new programs.
To finalize this winter, MMCCs Little League will merge withthe North Bronx Little League to become the North Bronx/Mosholu Montefiore Little League. Our newly formed league willgain entry into Little League of America and join its competitorsfor a remarkable season of baseball. In January, we will open threeCornerstone Youth and Adult Centers at Marble Hill, BostonSecor Houses and Gun Hill Housing Projects.
