produced by them represent 80 percent of an
automobile.
The automobile business is sensitive,
procedural, and yet modem and, thereby,
requires a great deal of investment funds. The
production method has to be, therefore, changed
and modernized at all times in order to render
quality and beauty. With regard to quality, the
automobiles made and sold in the country shall
be controiied by all of the Ministries which deal
with the country's economy, that is,
the Ministry of industry, with respect to
quality standards ;
. the Ministry of Finance, with respect to
customs duty, excise, revenue tax and VAT ,
: the Ministry of Transports and Communi-
cations, with respect to the portion of pollution
and registration ,
the Ministry of Science, Technology and
Environment, with respect to environmental
aspects , and
: the Ministry of Commerce, with respect to
retail and wholesale plices.
In the exportation side, The Company stlll
has to develop quallty, quantity, and standards
parts of all local parts In respect of all of thier
procedures to the extent approved to be sold,
i in accordance with the rules and law of each
country. Automobile are the goods strictly
governed by the regulations and laws concerning
consumers and are the products under long -
term responsibility in terms of warranties and
services after the dlsposltion. These numerous
sensitivities divide the investment into the following
2 catagories . On the vlsible side, for example,
in buildings and machineries ; and intangible
objects, that is, in development of characteristics,
assembiy, and designing and in calculation of
all Parts to make each automobile beautiful,
maneuverable, and economical and to pass
the tests for safety purposes in order to be a
model for each type and each automobile
(Research & Development).

1919 - Mr. Kanok Leelsranukul began his vehlcle

bicycle trom En~land. 1961 - August 2. 1961, SiMpal Motor Company was
established and authorized as sole dlstributor
of Mltsubishi three-wheeler 'Leo' and the
early-stage .Colt' models.
1964 - Founded in October, The United Development
Motor Industries Co.. Ltd. (UDMI). The Comwny's
outlay began with an initial registered copitai
of 10 million baht.
1965 - Mitsubishi Motors Corporation, Japan (MMC)
took part in the venture with UDMl by taking
48% shores. The additional resources had
enabled UDMl's operation to expand
significantly.
1966 - In July, 'UDMI' began its first production of
Mitsubishi llght-duty trucks
1972 - Started to ossemble of 'Mitsubishi Galant'
1974 - Introduced world-renowned 'Mitsubkhi Lancer'.
1977 - lntroduced 'Mitsubishi Galant Sima'
1979 - Started construction of the new UDMl assembly
plont in Lod krobong and registered copital
was boosted to 20 million baht and started
production of 'Mitsubishi Lancer (ND)'. 1981 - UDMI introduced the production of 'Mltsubkhl
L2W I-ton pick-up trucks.

1984 - Production of the newer version of 'Mitsublshi

MMC Sittipol Company Limited has
developed its system and production prowess.
strengthening these by upgrading its technical
units so these are ready for the future neeas.
At present, the company has four assembly
plants operation with its various subsid~aries
producing engine parts, a group of 13 factories
producing main parts and more than 80
factories under 'Thai Kashiwakai Club' producing
larger automobile parts. The presence of all
these units has elevated the MMC Sittipol's status
to that of "One Factory for the World' that is
comprehensive, consistent and advanced enough
to have on annual production capacity of over
200,000 units of cars and trucks. Mitsubishi Motors
Corporatlon, Japan, decided to move its
production base for pick-up trucks to Tha~land
and appointed MMC Sittipol as its sole
manufacturer of L200 pickup trucks for worldwide
exports. Hence, the company became the
Globai Production Center with the highest
production capacity in Southeast Asia.

Estate, assembles 1200 pick-up trucks with an
annual capacity of 52,200 ~~nits.
2. Factory 2 in Lad Krabang Industrial
Estate, assembles 15,W for 6 and 10 wheel
Mitsubishi trucks per year.
3. Factory 3 in Laem Chabang lndustrial
Estate, assembles every model of Mitsubishi
passenger car and has an annuai capacw of
72,000 units.
4. Factory 4 in Laem Chabang Industrial
Estate, built at an expense of more than 10
billion baht, assembies 100,000 Mitsubishi L200
pick-up trucks annually.
