May 22nd was the Scott Kirby House Concert host-ed by Kathi and Randel Renegar. And it was a perfect evening for an outdoor concert. About 35 Parrot Heads were in attendance to hear some great original music from Scott Kirby.

Everyone started arriving about 4pm while Scott was setting up and doing his sound checks. Randel Renegar had spent the day smoking some beef brisket and doing a little yard work.

People started setting up their chairs and arranging their coolers for easy access. Luckily there was a slight overcast so there were really no hot spots in the Ren-egar’s big beautiful backyard. About the time everyone got settled Scott began to play.

Scott played some songs from his newest CD that he recorded with his friend Peter Mayer from the “J.B. Coral Reef-er Band”. As expected his music was wonderful.

Between sets we all had a chance to get some

food and taste the brisket Randel had cooked as well as the many side dishes brought by everyone. Cody Shoulder’s daughter created a beautiful fruit centerpiece with chocolate covered strawberries.

Aft er some food and refresh-ments Scott took to the stage for a second set. He was tak-ing requests and playing a few cover songs (most notably an acoustic version of “Summer Wind”).

It was a great evening full of wonderful music, good food and beverages, dancing and a little swinging.

A great big Th ank You to our hosts the Renegars and also to Scott Kirby. We’ve got to do it again real soon.

If you care about kids and can spare an hour to have fun with your friends, then Bowl for Kids’ Sake is for you!

Th e May raffl e was pretty darn great. Th e tickets seemed well dis-tributed and we all had a good time and raised a lot of money -which is the reason we do it

June 14th is Flag Day. Th e American Legion Post will be having a fl ag retiring ceremony. Bring old tattered fl ags to be

properly retired.

“Th e fl ag, when it is in such condition that it is no longer a fi tting emblem of display, should be destroyed in a dignifi ed way, preferably by burning.” -Th e United States Flag Code, Title 4, Section 8k

It’s really an informal ceremony with a few minutes for a “speech” then the guys burn the fl ags which takes a while.

George Salley will be hosting a house concert for Sunny Jim. Hamburgers will be provided so bring a side dish, a lounge chairs and your beverage of choice.

George Salley’s in Owasso. Sunny Jim will be playing from 5 to 8pm. Everyone will need to arrive by 4:30. Cost for the evening will be $20 per person. Please RSVP to Cathy Boley at [email protected]. Car-pooling would be appreciated.

James “Sunny Jim” White is a singer songwriter who lives in Southwest Florida, but takes his original “Tro-prock” music on the road across the country. His original songs are inspired by life in the tropics and the inter-esting people who follow the sun. White writes what he knows, having lived in the Cayman Islands from 1988 – 2000. His music has attracted a loyal following across the U.S., especially among people who appreciate the tropical lifestyle. He has been recognized by the members of the Troprock Music Association with 14 “Wave” awards. Two of his CDs have been selected CD of the Year and most recently he received the “Yes I can Award” for his charity work.
