On July 11-12, the Universityof Culture and Arts, Arts Council of Mongolia, and METAA company (a SouthKorean Cultural Strategy ConsultantCompany) are organizing the ‘AwakeningSteppe’ Culture Naadam on at Hui DoloonHudagt, to showcase traditional Mongoliannomadic arts and culture for Mongolianand international visitors. Culture Naadamhas been organized since 2008 with over 200 workers from the University of Cultureand Arts, the Arts Council of Mongolia,and METAA.
The 2013 Culture Naadam will focus onthe UNESCO Intangible Heritage elementsof Mongolia including such traditionalcultural elements as the long song, throat-singing, bie bielgee dances, and folk music performances including ‘TraditionalMongolia’, ‘Classical Mongolia’, and‘Modern Mongolia’. Mongolian paintersand designers will alos be on-site todiscuss and showcase their interestingworks. Mongolian nomadic culture,lifestyle, and ceremonies will be exhibitedthrough ‘A day in Mongolia’, with activitystations to explore arts and culture crafts,Mongolia’s different ethnic groups, ‘GiantMongolia’ sculptures, traditional writing,felt, archery, face painting, and a children’s picture competition.
‘Culture Naadam 2013’ is supported by the Ministry of Culture, Sports, andTourism, the Arts and Culture DevelopmentFoundation, the National Naadam FestivalOrganizing Committee, the ImplementingAgency of the Mongolian Government, the National Children’s Ofce, and KhomiinTal LLC.
The International DOGAY NatureShoot-out Competition has been held since1995 in different cities and municipalitiesof Turkey. On May 16-19 this year, it washeld in Niksar – Tokat, one of Turkey’snatural and historical treasures. Thecompetition was organized by DASK;the Turkish Nature Research, Sports andRescue Association, with the supportof United Photographers International
(UPI), Federation Internationale del’Art Photographique (FIAP), Niksar Municipality, Arts Council of Mongolia,and the Turkish Embassy in Mongolia.
There were 330 participants from 14countries staying in the Niksar Districtfor the contest. This event is particularlyunique in that it only lasts 72 hours, soevery participant has an equal opportunityto enter 3 photographs into 5 generalcategories. The goal of the DOGAYPhotography Contest is to raise awarenessof the value of historical heritage and pristine nature.
This year Jargalsaikhan Batdorj waschosen to sit on the selection committeefor the contest. He represents ShineAgshin NGO, and with support of theArts Council of Mongolia, is the rstMongolian photographer to participate inthe DOGAY Photography Competition.The Turkish Embassy in Mongolia andTurkish Airlines generously sponsored hisround-trip ight.
Jargalsaikhan said being a jurymember was a great exchange experiencewith a variety of inspiring international photographers, sharing knowledgeabout photography and learning aboutTurkish culture. All representatives gave photographic presentations of their homecountries, so Jargalsaikhan showed the best photographs of Mongolia. In hisopinion, this was a good start for better collaboration between the Shine Agshin NGO and Turkish photographers.
On May 3, Z. Lhagvadorj’s ‘Romeoand Juliet 2’ musical made its rst debuton the Mongolian stage in Asia andestablished itself as a tour-de-force throughits acting and composition. It will return toaudiences on July 14 and 15 for an encore performance.
Organized by the Classic MusicalProduction NGO with support of the FrenchAlliance of Mongolia, the world-renownedmusical ‘Romeo and Juliet’ was adapted
into Mongolian from the original FrenchLanguage for the Mongolian stage.
The musical production consists of an art council team (15), stage productionteam (20), design and costume team (20), professional singers & artist team (70),marketing team (15) and administrationteam (10). The Romeo Juliet team has over 60 high-qualied singers & artists from theRussian school, 40 professional dancers,and a mini pop orchestra. This musical isthe rst time that such high quality artistsfrom opera, drama, and pop genres haveunited to put on a performance.
Classic Musical Production NGO wasestablished in 2009 with the mission to bringinternational classical music to Mongoliaand develop Mongolia’s own musicsector. The Mongolian Classic MusicalProduction NGO held three concerts in2009, 2010, and 2011 to present a varietyof world classic art for the rst time tothe Mongolian public. These concertsdemonstrated the range and expression of our musical productions and were well-received by Mongolian audiences. In theseconcerts an anthology of such internationalclassic musicals as Romeo and Juliet,Phantom of the Opera, Cats, Chicago, andRudolf were performed.
The ‘Romeo and Juliet 2’ Musical is proud to return t o the Mongolian stage for an encore performance, and the Production NGO is looking forward to performing atthe UB Palace Concert Hall.
