We strongly encourage all members to get vaccinated if they have not yet done so. We also want to reiterate our existing policy regarding masking: All non-vaccinated individuals, adults and children, are expected to wear a mask, covering one's nose and mouth, when inside the shul building. We have continued to operate from a place of personal responsibility, and we fully expect that all members will show courtesy and regard for each other by following this policy anytime they are inside the building. Question: The minhag to say L'David Hashem (Tehillim 27) during Elul and part of Tishrei is not found inShas, nor in the Rishonim, nor in the Shulchan Aruch. It is first found in print in a mussar sefer ("ShemTov Katan") published in Germany in 1706. The reason given there for saying it during this season hasto do with the number of times Hashem's name is mentioned in the chapter. Find the number and try tofigure out the reason.

Last Week’s Riddle:Question: Jewish law requires that judges of the Sanhedrin establish when holidays and RoshChodesh will occur through their control of the calendar. Why don't they also establish when Shabbatwill occur by declaring each Sunday day 1 of the week and not day 8? Relate this to the fact that theShabbat mussaf sacrifice (two lambs) is much smaller than that of the holidays and even RoshChodesh.

Answer: Shabbat is not on a fixed periodic date that depends on a calendar, but is the culmination ofsix days of labor. As such, its mussaf is an expansion of the daily korban tamid of two lambs as olot, rather than a special offering.
