Viero, a passionate research into the aesthetics of contemporary spaces

As the perfect ending to the year in which Viero celebrated its half-century of life, we have created a prized publication, a limited and exclusive edition that for the first time gathers a collection of projects selected among those that participated in the Viero 50 Years Contest, the international competition launched in conjunction with this important anniversary. The attainment of this major milestone was for us a time of success stories: our products are disseminated in more then thirty countries, our showrooms are growing continuously and we have the clear consciousness that Viero is a brand of great inspiration for designers and architects worldwide. But stopping before the goals attained has never been part of Viero’s philosophy – a brand that already back in 1967, when it was born, embodied a challenge: to conquer foreign markets with its strictly Made-in-Italy products. That is why we decided to characterize 2017 with a new challenge, actively committed to establishing a creative dialogue with all those partners who daily use and are inspired by our decorative finishes, fruit of an incessant and passionate aesthetic and qualitative research aimed at finding functional and increasingly eco-sustainable solutions. Given the level attained, a contest of ideas seemed the natural follow-up to our journey, the ideal instrument to engross and honour the network of professionals who have gravitated around Viero. And so we launched a call for architects, interior designers, designers and decorators with the goal to highlight the infinite variations into which our materials can be interpreted. Many have accepted our invitation, elevating our products within important projects of interior/outdoor design in different corners of the earth and proposing new, surprising decorative textures having a great aesthetic and emotional impact. The result was amazing, as you can personally see by browsing through these pages, as if leafing through a good storybook. From China to Europe, from the Arab Emirates to India, this volume wants to be an adventurous voyage under the sign of excellence, a persisting and suggestive succession of fascinating stories written on walls. The fil rouge are our values, the same values shared by those who have chosen us: unconditioned love of beauty, the sense of colour and of materials, tradition meeting modernity, the art of knowing fused with innovation, an enduring Italian style that overcomes all territorial borders… We would like to think that the finale is still open, ready to be written day after day by those who are committed to reinvent their creativity time and again by disseminating beauty with Viero.

Per concludere in bellezza l’anno in cui Viero ha celebrato il suo mezzo secolo di vita abbiamo pensato a una pubblicazione speciale, un’edizione limitata ed esclusiva che per la prima volta racchiude al suo interno una collezione di progetti selezionati tra quelli che hanno partecipato al Viero 50 Years Contest, il concorso internazionale lanciato in occasione di questo importante anniversario. Il raggiungimento di questa tappa così significativa è stato per noi un momento di bilanci positivi: i nostri prodotti sono sparsi in oltre trenta Paesi, i nostri showroom sono in continua crescita e in noi è chiara la consapevolezza che Viero è un brand di grande ispirazione per designer e architetti di tutto il mondo. Ma fermarsi di fronte agli obiettivi raggiunti non è mai stato un atteggiamento tipico della filosofia Viero, un marchio che già nel 1967, al momento della sua nascita, portava in sé un’intrinseca componente di sfida, quella cioè di conquistare i mercati esteri con i suoi prodotti rigorosamente Made in Italy. Per questo abbiamo deciso di caratterizzare il 2017 con una nuova scommessa, impegnandoci attivamente a stabilire un dialogo creativo con tutti quei partner che quotidianamente utilizzano e si lasciano ispirare dalle nostre finiture decorative, frutto di un’incessante e appassionata ricerca estetica e qualitativa che mira a creare soluzioni funzionali e sempre più ecosostenibili. Visto il livello raggiunto un concorso d’idee ci è parso il seguito naturale del nostro percorso, lo strumento ideale per coinvolgere e omaggiare la rete di professionisti che da anni gravita attorno a Viero.Abbiamo così lanciato una call per architetti, interior designer, progettisti e decoratori con il fine di mettere in luce le infinite declinazioni in cui i nostri materiali possono essere interpretati. Sono stati in molti ad accogliere il nostro invito, elevando i nostri prodotti all’interno di importanti progetti di interni/esterni sparsi in diversi angoli del pianeta e proponendo nuove, sorprendenti texture decorative di grande impatto estetico ed emotivo. Il risultato è stato strepitoso e lo potrete verificare di persona sfogliando queste pagine, proprio come si fa con un bel libro di racconti. Dalla Cina all’Europa, dagli Emirati Arabi all’India questo volume vuol essere infatti un viaggio avventuroso all’insegna dell’eccellenza, un susseguirsi incalzante e suggestivo di fascinose storie scritte sulle pareti. Il fil rouge sono i nostri valori, gli stessi condivisi da chi ci ha scelto: l’amore incondizionato per il bello, la ricerca costante, il senso del colore e dei materiali, la tradizione che incontra la contemporaneità, l’arte del saper fare che sposa l’innovazione, uno stile italiano che persiste e supera ogni confine territoriale… Il finale vogliamo pensarlo aperto, pronto per essere scritto ogni giorno da chi si impegna a mettere in gioco la sua creatività disseminando bellezza con Viero.

Situated in the lively historic centre of Lisbon, Hotel Santa Clara 1728 is a luxury hotel located in a beautiful 18th-century building following painstaking renovation works. Characterizing this location is a warm, serene atmosphere that – through the combination of few selected elements, the refined choice of raw materials and the purity of lines, surfaces and proportions – projects the visitor in a dimension of dreamy timelessness. The soft colours, the tranquil ambiances and the designer objects admirably harmonize with the architectural context that, in its ensemble, respects the genius loci and presents the purest and most authentic spirit of Lisbon.

Ideata per un lussuoso hotel immerso tra le montagne svizzere, Alpnstein-Gold è una texture che dialoga perfettamente sia con i locali interni, rilassanti e confortevoli, sia con il paesaggio circostante, da cui la finitura trae ispirazione. Il motivo alla base della decorazione, con la sua linearità iterata e sinuosa, evoca infatti il profilo stilizzato delle catene montuose, ammantate di un’atmosfera raffinata e allo stesso tempo particolarmente accogliente grazie a una velatura di pigmenti dorati 24 carati che scaldano la parete di un glamour informale.

Designed for a luxurious hotel immersed in the Swiss mountains, Alpnstein-Gold is a texture perfectly in harmony with the internal spaces – cosy and relaxing – and with the external landscape, from which the finishes takes its inspiration. The motif at the basis of the decoration, with its repeated and sinuous linearity, evokes the stylistic profile of mountain chains cloaked in a refined and at the same time particularly welcoming atmosphere thanks to a hint of 24-karat gold pigments that warm the wall’s surface with an informal glamour.

Situata nell’azzurro di Gozo, isola al largo di Malta, questa catena di hotel attualmente sorge nelle piazze dei tradizionali villaggi di Nadur e Xewkija. Frutto di un lavoro di recupero di case preesistenti, gli alberghi sono ricchi di charme e giocano con il contrasto tra la tradizionale facciata in pietra antica e gli ambienti interni progettati con uno stile attuale e minimalista. Ogni stanza ha le pareti ispirate a un diverso ventaglio di cromie, accomunate dai toni rasserenanti della natura circostante e in armonia con il resto dell’arredo.

Situated in the blue ambience of Gozo, an island just off the coast of Malta, this hotel chain currently rises in the piazzas of the traditional towns of Nadur and Xewkija. Fruit of a recovery work on pre-existing houses, these hotels are rich in charm and play with the contrast between the traditional facade in ancient stone and the internal environments designed with a current, minimalist style. The walls of every room are inspired by a different array of colour shades, having in common the soothing tones of the surrounding nature and in harmony with the rest of the furnishings.

The vortex of lines produced by the nearby waterfalls of the Limmat River is the great protagonist of the scenic wall that characterizes the Hönggerhof restaurant in Zurich. It is a drawing on paper created ad hoc for this location and then admirably applied onto the wall in the light and sophisticated tones of the foams typical of the waterfalls.

A texture that embodies the memory of a journey. As its name suggests, Verona was born from some walls seen in the historic centre of the Italian city. A union between different techniques and different colours for a revisitation of the lime-based plaster, giving life to infinite materic and conceptual stratifications. Qui le pareti dall’aspetto antico conversano piacevolmente con il resto dell’ambiente: dalla grande e scenografica porta di vetro e metallo ai numerosi pezzi antichi provenienti da diversi angoli del mondo, fino all’illuminazione moderna, che aggiunge toni caldi agli interni.

A romantic and creative atmosphere goes hand-in-hand with the evocation of an industrial-style mood in Michal Zapomnel’ luxurious hair salon, in Prague. Here, the antique-looking walls pleasantly converse with the rest of the environment: from the large spectacular metal and glass door to the numerous ancient objects coming from different corners of the earth, up to the modern lighting that adds warm tones to the internal spaces.

Questo è il risultato del progetto che ha coinvolto il Cabbana Resort and Spa, un hotel molto noto a Jallandhar, in India, che recentemente ha dato nuova vita ai principali locali del resort, rivisitando in particolare il ristorante, la sala banchetti e il lounge. A contraddistinguere i rinnovati ambienti sono una serie di finiture decorative realizzate utilizzando un ampio spettro di cromie, in totale armonia tra loro, in grado di creare una scenografia che è un vero distillato di suggestioni.

Elegant and bright, warm and luxurious spaces. This is the result of the project that has involved the Cabbana Resort and Spa, a very famous hotel in Jallandhar, in India, that has recently given new life to the main rooms of the resort, revisiting principally the restaurant, the banquet hall and the lounge. Distinguishing the renewed environments is a series of decorative finishes created using a wide array of totally harmonious colours, capable of creating an extremely suggestive scenario.

A cosmopolitan and contemporary mood distinguishes this men’s haute couture shop in London. To create it, a combination of quartz paints was used, rich in suggestive elements and easy to maintain, capable of conferring an industrially inspired and at the same time chic flavour.

Situato a Shanghai, il Vanvory Art Center è stato ricavato all’interno di edifici storici che hanno acquisito nuova vita grazie a un attento progetto di ristrutturazione e design. La progettualità ruota attorno al motivo delle crepe, forgiate con giochi di luce. Queste “spaccature”, simboli di speranza e immaginazione, attraversano tutti gli spazi dell’edificio e si ispirano a elementi naturali come i canyon, il vento, le onde e le cascate.

Situated in Shanghai, the Vanvory Art Center was created inside historic buildings that have thus come to new life thanks to a painstaking restructuring and design project. The design aspect rotates around the motif of the cracks, forged using games of light. These nooks – symbol of hope and imagination – are disseminated throughout the spaces of the building and are inspired by natural elements such as canyons, the wind, waves and waterfalls.

A uniform and repeated geometric design characterizes the double-height entrance of the Jain Residence, situated in Ambala, India.The cement effect, interpreted in an elegant graphic taste, was created using marmorino plaster, chosen for its medium-sized granules that yielded a materic, rough surface creating continuity with the external wall.

Un gioco in bilico tra realtà e finzione anima fin dal titolo lo spirito di questo progetto. Le pareti, pur sembrando costruite in calcestruzzo, sono in realtà state realizzate con un intonaco a base di calce grigia a grana media. Il risultato è un ambiente dall’atmosfera contemporanea e lineare, movimentata da mobili e oggetti privati che evocano viaggi lontani.

A game on the balance between reality and fiction animates the spirit of this project, starting with its title. The walls may seem build in concrete, but they are actually made using a plaster based on medium-grain grey lime. The result is an environment having a contemporary and linear atmosphere, animated by private pieces of furniture and objects that recall faraway journeys.
