The Health Law Institute, established in 1989, has received national

recognition for the excellence of its programs and has been ahead of

the curve on health law education. National surveys have ranked

Widener’s programs at the top of those offering graduate education in

health law. Health care organizations such as hospitals, insurance and

managed care companies, pharmaceutical companies, and

governmental agencies recognize the high quality of training received

by Widener’s graduate students.

Master of Jurisprudence (MJ) The Health Law Institute fosters graduate-level education. Students may choose to take the standard

online Master of Jurisprudence program or specialize their Master’s degree with one of the

following three concentrations:

Certificate in Legal Nurse Consulting & Hospital Regulatory Compliance

Certificate in Regulatory Analysis & Compliance

the American Association of Legal Nurse Consultants (AALNC), health care policy makers, and

compliance officers.

Master of Jurisprudence/Master of Public Health (MJ-MPH) In conjunction with Thomas Jefferson University, Widener also offers a Dual Master of

Jurisprudence in Health Law and Master of Public Health. Topics covered include patient

confidentiality, bioethics, risk management, and disability law. The dual degree is for those

interested in public health administration, health insurance organization leadership, health

consulting, or the pharmaceutical industry.

Doctor of Laws (DL) The Doctor of Laws is designed for graduates of either a Master of Jurisprudence (MJ) or a Master

of Juridical Science (MSJ) in Health Law program. This program engages students in exhaustive

research and immerses them in an individualized program while working towards the completion of
