MIXING FORMULATM

Mixing Technology OverviewMixing is the most demanding unit operation in today’s process industries – and a high-quality end product is depending on an efficient and successful mixing. Our core business is mixing solutions for liquid/liquid or liquid/powder, and we are proud to say that we have many years of experience in this field. Choosing the right mixing technology is crucial - as the mixing process not only has an impact on the processing - but also on the batch cycle times and the total cost of ownership.

One of the success criteria related to mixing processes is ending up with a homogeneous final product without ‘fish eyes’ and lumps of powder – at the shortest possible time. To do this the MIXING FORMULATM programme is re-thinking the traditional way of mixing. MIXING FORMULATM introduces a High Shear Mixer to allow the maximum utilization of the added energy. The powder introduction point is below the liquid surface in the vessel which results in an instant wetting of the ingredients. The result is very short mixing times with a high degree of process flexibility.

The MIXING FORMULATM programme from Mixing Systems is suitable for various industries such as:

• Food and Beverage Industries

• Dairy Industry

• Personal Care

• Biotech Industries

• Pharmaceutical Industry

Mixing Systems not only understands mixing technology – we also have a unique understanding and know-how of the entire process based on many years of experience.

Our customers acknowledge that Mixing Systems guarantees a customized solution to meet the specific requirements of today`s manufacturers.

y INLINE FORMULATM

The INLINE FORMULATM Mixer from Mixing Systems is based on a unique versatile system that easily can enter as a unit to improve an already existing production line or replace existing equipment.

The customized multi-rotor, the INLINE FORMULATM Mixer is much more than a vessel with a bottom-mounted mixer. It is a combination of a high shear mixing head to ensure a homogeneous product and a centrifugal pump enabling a feed pressure to the downstream process.

The INLINE FORMULATM Mixer is available in two set-ups. One-pass process is often used when powder with high solubility has to be dissolved in short time whereas the multi-pass process is used when a high quantity of powder must emulsify with for instance oil, gum or flavors.

The process vessel can be supplied with different options such as:

• Heating/cooling via a dimple jacket• Vacuum for de-aeration of the product• Vacuum-feature for powder introduction

Typical applications for In-Line Mixing are:

• Beverages like juice and carbonated water for the production of soft drinks• Liquid food• Recombined milk

The advantages of using the INLINE FORMULATM Mixer are among others:

• A continuous process that can run in-line with the downstream process• Just-in-time production - preparation of the batch at the time needed • No or only short storage-time of the mixed product before further processing

The discharge of the INLINE FORMULATM Mixer can either be directed into storage tanks for re-circulation (one-pass process) or as a double re-circulation loop directed into storage tanks during circulation (multi-pass process).

Processing Units - BATCH FORMULATM

BATCH FORMULATM

To end up with a homogeneous product with a minimum of resources, one-pot processing is a key element. The BATCH FORMULATM Mixer from Mixing Systems gives the customer the optimal utilization of energy supplied to the High Shear Mixer - as this is directly related to the shear forces.

The High Shear Mixer is placed in the cone at the bottom of the vessel and it is one of the crucial factors in ending up with a uniform product without any re-circulation loops. In this way one-pot processing reduces the process time, saves energy, optimizes the CIP cycle - and at the end of the day increases the profitability.

The BATCH FORMULATM Mixer is characterized by:

• High shear and no shear in the same vessel• Instantly emulsifying powder into liquid and avoiding fish eyes and agglomerates • Ensuring a stable suspension because of a highly efficient mixer • Soft blending of fragile particles with a little or no damage of the product • Hygienic design, ensuring total drainage of the mixer from batch to batch• Versatile unit for multiple applications with a high viscosity and up to 80% TS

In the BATCH FORMULATM Mixer the powder is introduced below the liquid surface by the use of vacuum to achieve an instant wetting of the ingredients. This is possible for even the most difficult applications requiring micro bubbles despite a high viscosity product.

For full flexibility the BATCH FORMULATM Mixer is available with various features as:

• Vacuum for instant wetting of powder and for de-airing • Heating and cooling jacket • Direct steam injection• Vacuum for flash cooling or evaporation• Stators and knives in various sizes

Typical applications for batch mixing can be:• Fine food such as dressings, soups and peanut butter• Household products such as detergent and window

cleaners• Pharmaceutical applications such as tablet coating and

formula food • Personal care products such as creams, lotions, face

masks and toothpaste
