The Evolution of Automation….prepFASTprepFAST is a dilution system that automatically performs precise and accurate inline dilutions for samples and standards. Samples are rapidly (0.5 mL/sec) and reproducibly vacuum loaded from each autosampler location into a sample loop. From there the sample is injected (within valve) into a diluent liquid stream and transported to a low volume tee located between the valve and nebulizer. Internal standard is added in the tee to obtain final dilution factors between 1x (undiluted) and 200x. At the heart of the system is the S400V syringe pump. Precise (<± 0.05%), accurate (<± 0.2%), smooth and balanced delivery of solution over a wide range of flow rates (1 to 500 μL/min) ensures rapid reliable inline dilutions.
Capable of up to 400x dilution, the prepFAST is the fastest, simplest way to ensure high quality data in every run.
Benefits of Inline Dilution• Real time dilutions• Reduced reagent consumption• No additional tube or reagents required• Automates dilutions• Rapid uptake and wash out• Low contamination risk• Sample analysis time constant, independent of dilution factor

Autodilution in Seconds….prepFASTDilutions are performed by accurately controlling the sample and diluent flow rates. Desired dilution factors are achieved in seconds by utilizing in-valve mixing capabilities. Mixing inline eliminates the need to premix/dilute samples in discrete tubes prior to analysis and greatly improves sample throughput. Combined with FAST technology, rapid sample uptake and FAST washout times are independent of dilution factor allowing rapid injection of the next sample.
Benefits of the prepFAST system• Rapid vacuum loading• Inline dilution as sample is injected• Rapid uptake and stabilization of sample

Short and Long Term Stability….prepFASTSyringe pumps eliminate peristaltic pump tubing wear and pulsation that can adversely affect both short and long term stability. Sample and diluent delivery is stable over a wide range of (200 fold) mixing ratios. Stability at low sample flow rates provides the greatest inline dilution factors of any commercial sample preparation system available. Constant preset delivery rates of solution by the S400V provide long term signal stability at all dilution factors.
Benefits of the prepFAST system• Eliminates peristaltic pump pulsation• Long term stability at all dilution factors• 520 syringe steps per μL

AUTOMATED
Automated Dilutions.…prepFASTTedious manual preparation steps are automatically handled by the prepFAST system, making better use of time and resources. Automated dilution is utilized for both standard calibration and sample dilution. Predefined dilution factors for a single muti-element standard are used to build calibration curves. Accuracy of dilution is illustrated by excellent linearity of the calibration curve (r=0.9999). Sample dilution can be predefined on a per-sample basis, allowing for a wide range of dilution factors to be used when sample types or elemental concentrations vary greatly.
Benefits of the prepFAST system• Automatically calibrates the instrument from a single standard solution• Automatically dilute samples minimizing sample preparation
Depending on ICP/ICP-MS QC functions available, additional benefits of prepFAST are• Automatically rerun over range samples at appropriate dilution• Automatically rerun internal standard failure at appropriate dilution• Automatically prescreen sample for appropriate dilution• Insert and run priority samples

Intuitive Operation….prepFASTInstallation and operation of the prepFAST system is straightforward. The system consists of an SC-DX series autosampler, an P7+ inline mixing valve, a S400V syringe pump and associated plumbing. The prepFAST software and hardware is integrated seamlessly with your ICP or ICPMS. Operation is intuitive and once setup for autodilution, transparent to the user. To dilute samples, simply enter the desired dilution for each standard or sample. Load the desired sample file into the ESI SC software. Then the prepFAST automatically reads the desired dilution for each sample or standard and performs appropriate inline dilutions.
Benefits of the prepFAST system• Easy installation• Rapid implementation• Intuitive operation• Fully automated• Completely integrated

Precision is the cornerstone of all high quality data. The ability to discern small variations in data sets leads to greater insight and interpretation. Delivering sample diluent and internal standard via the S400V ensures precise dilution factors and unprecedented signal stability over a wide range of flow rates.
Benefits of the prepFAST system• S400V precision syringe • Very reproducible flow rates• 520 steps per μL, precise control of sample at very low flow rates• Specially designed P7+ inline mixing valve and tee• Eliminate peripump tubing

ACCURATE
On Target Every Time….prepFASTPrecise measurements, accurate calibrations, and accurate sample dilutions are necessary to provide accurate concentration values for unknown samples. The accuracy of prepFAST syringe-driven (S400V) inline dilutions is illustrated by linear (R2=0.9999) calibration curves. Accuracy is further demonstrated by the determination of metal concentrations in a fresh water Certified Reference Material (CRM, NIST 1643). Greatest accuracy is achieved when unknown samples fall in the center of a calibration curve. prepFAST is used to appropriately dilute a wide range of element concentrations (Mg 8037 to Cd 7.45 ppb) to obtain fully automated accurate results at any dilution factor. If ICP/ICP-MS software outputs over range QC functions, prepFAST will automatically rerun and appropriately dilute samples that are beyond the calibration range; thereby eliminating in-run QC over range failures.
Benefits of the prepFAST system• Accurately mixes sample diluent and internal standard• Automatically calibrates the instrument from a single standard solution• Automatically dilute samples
Depending on ICP/ICP-MS QC functions available, additional benefits of prepFAST are• Automatically rerun over range samples at appropriate dilution• Automatically rerun internal standard failure at appropriate dilution• Automatically prescreen sample for appropriate dilution

EFFICIENT
Improve Productivity…prepFASTThe prepFAST system produces high quality data while enhancing laboratory productivity and profitability. By eliminating manual sample dilution steps, not only is human error removed, but ICP/ICP-MS operators have more time to focus on instrument setup and data reduction. prepFAST can thereby greatly improve efficiency of both instrument and operator time, leading to lower per sample costs.
Benefits of Inline Dilution
• FAST analysis reduces uptake and wash times, saving instrument time• Eliminates manual dilutions, saving operator time• Reduce reagent use by only diluting volume analyzed• Reduce laboratory supplies, test tubes, bottles and pipette tips• Eliminate peripump tubing for sample delivery• Greatly reduce QC failure and reruns• Remove human error from solution preparation• Improve productivity and reduce cost per sample
