Education Goals Our Goal - teach students to be environmentally conscious, creative problem-solvers Objectives

• Encouraging Ocean STEM Literacy: We use examples and content from Ocean Sciences Technology Engineering and Math as the focal point for many of our programs. • Skill Building for Students: We give students hands-on experience and leadership training through ocean engineering and marine science fieldwork. These programs provide the kind of experiences that students will recall and think about for years after the program ends. • Training Teachers: We train teachers to conduct open-ended, learner-based projects that require students to collaborate, brainstorm, and design solutions to challenging problems.

Ocean STEM Literacy Ocean literacy is defined as an understanding of the ocean’s influence on you and your influence on the ocean. An ocean-literate person: •  understands the “essential principles” and fundamental concepts •  can communicate about the ocean in a meaningful way •  is able to make informed and responsible decisions regarding the ocean and its resources.

Science Technology Engineering and Math (STEM) literacy relates to a persons ability to apply technology, engineering, math and science in order to solve complex problems
