Third Sunday of Lent March 7, 2021

From the Pastor

Dcn. Abel CortesDcn. Larry Lucido

Dcn. Bob MarrinanDcn. Peter Raad

My Dear Parishioners,

On the third, fourth, and fifth Sundays of Lent, Holy Mother the Church solemnly celebrates the Scrutinies with those in Christian Initiation who seek entry into the Church. The Scrutinies are “rites for self-searching and repentance” that help to “heal all that is weak, defective, or sinful in the hearts of the elect,” as well as “to bring out, then strengthen all that is upright, strong, and good.” (from Rites of Christian Initiation of Adults). We could all use a little “scrutiny” in our own lives in order to guard against temptation and get out from under the power of evil that oftentimes has a subtle hold on us. In year B, the gospel is about Jesus cleansing the temple. We can ask Jesus to help us cleanse the temple of our bodies. “Do you not know that your body is a temple of the holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own?” (1 Cor. 6:19). Prayer, fasting and almsgiving help in this effort. But let us not stop there! If we find something wrong, let us choose something right and get back on track! Let us choose Christ and encourage others to likewise. Your Pastor,Fr. Guadagnoli

Time Springs Forward one hour next weekend on Sunday, March 14th! Please reset your clocks.

UNITED STATES GUIDELINES FOR ABSTAINING AND FASTING:

DAYS OF FAST: Ash Wednesday and Good Friday for all who have celebrated their 18th birthday and have not reached their 60th birthday, a limit of one full meatless meal.

WEEKDAYS OF LENT: No obligation to fast, however, voluntary acts of self-denial are recommended.
