Mission Statement
We, the people of St. Monica Catholic Church, are called through Baptism to celebrate the presence of Jesus Christ in Word and Sacrament. In becoming what we receive, we are sent in peace to glorify
the Lord by sharing our gifts in service to others and by inviting all into a deeper relationship with Christ. Inspired by our patroness, St. Monica, we pray that all may become children of heaven.

My Dear Parishioners,
Are you anxious about the coming of Fall or about the upcoming school
year? Times and seasons change. Often we anticipate and adjust.
Sometimes we drag our feet or we go kicking and screaming. Now if we
look at the Second Coming of Christ, what might we be anxious about? Do
you anticipate and adjust your life or are you dragging your feet? Maybe
you are going to go kicking and screaming! Now is a good time to reflect
on what will happen when the Lord comes to us at the end of time. In the
reality of living our faith, we have the opportunity to actually encounter
Christ each time the Eucharist is celebrated! He returns to us as the Most
Blessed Sacrament! We are given a foretaste of what is to come: the
heavenly banquet! Today we can make those adjustments in our lives
or maintain what we have to assist us in receiving Our Lord now in the
Eucharist which will prepare us for His final coming at the end of time.
August 15th is the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. This is a Holy Day of Obligation and we are required as Roman
Catholics who actively live our faith to participate in the Holy Sacrifice
of the Mass for this day. The Blessed Virgin Mary, after completing
God’s will for her on earth, was assumed or taken body and soul into
heaven. This celebration was first called the “Dormition of Mary” or
the “Falling Asleep of Mary” noting the last part of her life on earth. But
there is more to this event! Centuries later, on November 1, 1950, in the
encyclical Munificentissimus Deus, Pope Pius XII defined the dogma of
the Assumption. He solemnly proclaimed that the belief that Our Blessed
Mother was taken body and soul into heaven at the close of her earthly
life is part of the deposit of faith. Pope Saint John Paul II would add later
that Mary’s “Assumption into heaven is not only the culmination of her
particular vocation as the Mother and disciple of the Lord Jesus, but also an
eloquent sign of God’s fidelity to the universal plan of salvation aimed at the
redemption of every man and of all men” (Angelus, Aug. 1995). Mary is the
“beginning and pattern of the Church” (preface of the Assumption) who has
benefited from Her Son Jesus Christ’s saving act of redemption. We ask our
Blessed Mother as Queen of Heaven for her continued prayers so that we,
too, may join her in our eternal home with Her Son Jesus Christ.
In Christ,
Fr. Guadagnoli

A menudo anticipamos y ajustamos. ¡Tal vez vas a patear y gritar!
