INTERESTED IN BECOMING A CATHOLIC? Part 3
The RCIA process can be applied to the following 3 groups:
• Unbaptized: persons (age of discretion: 7+ years) who have never been baptized and who need a process to help them grow in awareness to God's call to conversion as well as ways to respond to that call. They are considered cate-chumens.
• Baptized in Another Christian Church: Those who were baptized into another Christian denomination and wish to enter into full communion with the Catholic Church. They are considered candidates. For baptized Christians interest-ed in possibly joining the Catholic Church, the process will vary depending upon the depth on one's religious and spir-itual readiness.
• Baptized but uncatechized Catholic Adults: persons who were baptized as infants and not given any religious instruc-tion in the Catholic faith. These adults will be prepared to celebrate the sacraments of penance, confirmation and Eu-charist. They are also considered candidates. It is important to note that “candidates” do not always need to take part in the full process. If they have been ac-tively living the Christian life in another denomination, they are likely to need very little catechesis and may be wel-comed into the Church on any Sunday after a short period of preparation. According to the National Statutes for the Catechumenate, "Those baptized persons who have lived as Christians and need only instruction in the Catholic tradi-tion and a degree of probation within the Catholic communi-ty should not be asked to undergo a full program parallel to the catechumenate." In the case of children who have reached the age of rea-son (age 7), the pastor of the local parish should be consult-ed for information about Baptism and the other Sacraments of Initiation. Adult Catholics who were baptized and received their First Eucharist in the Catholic Church and are interest-ed in the Sacrament of Confirmation should contact their local parish office. These are Catholics who have been in-structed in the Catholic faith but who have not received the Sacrament of Confirmation. A separate program of adult Confirmation is available to these Catholics, who are then prepared to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation.
If you are even a little bit interested in becom-ing a Catholic, please give Fr Shawn a call at
the rectory at 781 665 0152.

Twenty-third Sunday in Ordinary Time
Readings for September 8, 2019
Twenty-third Sunday in Ordinary Time
First Reading Wisdom 9:13-18b Responsorial Psalm Psalm 90:3-4, 5-6, 12-13, 14 & 17 Second Reading Philomen 9-10, 12-17 Gospel Luke 14:25-33
Jesus gives us clear standards for discipleship. He chal-lenges his disciples and us to be dedicated to the mission. In dramatic language, Jesus tells us that nothing should stand in the way of discipleship. And, that discipleship is demanding – involving sacrifice possible persecution and suffering. Pray that your discipleship and your willingness to be a faithful follower of Jesus will be strengthened!
Readings for September 15, 2019
Twenty-fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time
First Reading Exodus 32:7-11, 13-14 Responsorial Psalm Psalm 51:3-4, 12-13, 17, 19 Second Reading First Timothy 1:12-17 Gospel Luke 15:1-32 The gospel today speaks of the lost sheep, lost coin, lost son. There is great rejoicing when what is lost has been found. Each of the parables make it clear that God does not want to see anyone lost, because of sin. In your prayer this week ask for the grace to be open to see that God is crazy in love for you just as if you were the only person in the world. Rejoice in that gift!

CLERGY HEALTH AND RETIREMENT TRUST Whether they are working to enrich our parishes or seeing to the needs of the broader communities in which they serve, priests have dedicated their lives to helping all of God’s chil-dren. Truly, the strength and vibrancy of our communities de-pend on the health and well-being of our priests. Please support our priests by making a gift to the Clergy Health and Retirement Trust at clergytrust.org or by generously supporting the upcoming special collec-tion next weekend. This dedicated second collection is a primary source of funding to care for our priests. Your generosity is very much appreciated.
Funds from this special collection are managed by the Clergy Health and Retirement Trust–an independently managed trust with a majority lay board
of trustees. The funds are used for the sole benefit of active and senior priests in good standing.

MARK YOUR CALENDARS
Monday, Sep 9—Grades 1-8 Parent Information Night and PTO Uniform Swap Tuesday, Sep 10—MAP Testing Begins Wednesday, Sep 18—PTO Meeting Monday, Sep 30—Fall Clubs Begin
We’re now in full swing and it has been wonderful to reconnect with our students during these first weeks of school. If you’ve ever worked in a school or with children, you know that one of the great joys
is in hearing what they have to say. Children have a way of saying things that catch us off guard, whether it’s through their sense of hu-mor, or an unexpected comment, or some piece of wisdom beyond their years. When I have conversations with the students in our school, I appreciate the spontaneity, truthfulness, and in many cases, the innocence of their thoughts. Toward the end of the previous school year, at a point when the brown in my beard was starting to turn a greyish/white tint, a kindergarten student said, “Hi, Mr. Beza. You’re starting to look like Santa Claus!” Out of the mouths of babes, I guess. As the school principal, I am blessed to know all the children in our school, so there’s not a day that goes by that I don’t get the privilege of being on the receiving end of a comment that’s either funny, insightful, or just plain wise. A few days before this school year started, as I was waiting in line at Dunkin for my morning coffee, I bumped into one of our incoming second grade students. He walked right up to me, and before I could say hello or ask him how his summer had been, he belt-ed out, “Guess what?! This year in second grade I get to make my First Holy Communion!” What a great reminder not just to me, but to our entire faculty and staff, of why we are here…to support and advance the Church’s evangelizing mission and to make the faith come alive for our students. It’s also a reminder to me that as much as we will certain-ly teach our students this year, if we’re willing to listen, there’s a lot we can learn from them as well.
Blessings, Mr Chris Beza, Principal
WELCOME BACK SAFETY REMINDER!
Our first concern is always for the safety of the children. The area around the school is con-gested during morning drop-off and afternoon pick up despite the staggered schedules. Re-
gardless of where you park your car, please be sure to use the crosswalks. Remind your children to look both ways before crossing any street, and to wait for drivers to stop before crossing any street. Students and parents must use the crosswalks when dropping off or picking up students. Please do not stop your car in the middle of the street to drop off your child. This is an extremely dangerous habit that puts children at risk. If you are driving, remember that Melrose has a 25 mph speed limit across the city. And most school zones have a limit of 20 mph. Please drive carefully.
PTO WELCOME BACK COFFEE & DONUTS
Thank you to everyone who stopped by to say hello while enjoying a cup of coffee and a donut or two! Special thank you to Anita Galante-Bellamy for all her help with this kick off event!
