The Mission of GodSt. Johns Egham, 2011/12
God createsWe are not here by accident! Our loving God created
agood world. And out of his whole creation, we are special,made in
his image to be in relationship with him and torule the world under
him.But we have made a mess of both.
God callsGod did not give up on his world or his people!
Godpromises to build up a people to be a light in a darkworld,
beginning with the call of one man, Abraham.God continues to call
his people it is estimated that
there are 2 billion Christians in the world today, and weare
some of them.
God savesGod rescued his people out of slavery in Egypt, and
thiswas not a one-off event but a picture of how God hassaved us
today in Jesus through his death andresurrection.God saved his
people then, and he saves people today.
God reignsWe not only worship God as Saviour but we are to
obeyhim as Lord and King. God gave the law to his rescuedpeople
because he cares about our welfare and knowswhat is best for us.A
life lived Gods way was the best way then and it is thebest way
now.
God judgesGod will not stand by and ignore evil! God judged
hispeople because they turned away from him and his waysand refused
to turn back to him, and they were takeninto exile.
Today, his judgement falls either on Jesus as he dies, or itwill
fall on those who have not received his forgivenesswhen Jesus
returns.
God comesGod became one of us! He came to live he knows whatit
is to be human. And he came to die as a perfecthuman he is the only
one qualified to take our place onthe cross, dying so that we can
live.
God loves The cross-shaped plan! At the heart of Gods mission
torestore the world and bring people back to himself isGods
sacrificial love, shown as he gave what was mostprecious to him,
his only Son, to die for us.
There may be times when it just doesnt feel like Godloves us the
cross of Jesus says he does!
God sendsNo life has greater purpose than one lived for Jesus!
Hesent out his first disciples and every single one of hisdisciples
since to take the gospel to those who need tohear it and to live as
his ambassadors in a needy world.
