Minister of Students & Contemporary Worship: Brenden Lawson
I write this article today from Mark’s bedside. Sharon and I have spent many days and nights here. We thank God for the Children’s Hospital of the Kings Daughters and what a wonderful job all the nurses and doctors and staff do every day in taking care of Mark and all the other patients. One of the secrets to the success of this hospital is how everyone works together. Our
floor is made up of four pods with four rooms to the pod. The nurses and aids on one floor all
work together. You can tell that they are friends and they laugh a lot. It really is a great place
and it needs to be. Imagine working in an environment filled with sick children. It would not be
easy.
One of the secrets to the success of our church is that we work together for God with a spirit of joy and unity. I am convinced that James River Baptist Church is made up of some of the best and most loving people in Williamsburg. We live in a world that is spiritually ill. Let us work together and win it to Christ, one person at a time. We are starting a new ministry in our church with Senior Adults and I am so happy to see it. Williamsburg has a large population of older Americans-- notice I didn’t say old. I read some statistics about the aging of our country that puts this potential of reaching seniors in perspec-tive:
• 34% of all Americans is 50 years of age or older. • Every 7 seconds another person turns 50! • People age - 65 plus - number over 35 million representing one out of every 8 Americans. • As of July 1983, there are more adults age 65 or older than teenagers in the United
States. • This growing number of senior adults is living longer than ever before. More than two
hundred Americans reach age 100 each week. Buddy Tarrant has caught a vision for developing a Senior Adult program in James River. He has been meeting with several others and they are prayerfully moving forward. The first big meeting for this will be on Sunday, April 14 at noon. If you are interested in this as a senior or you would like to work with seniors, come out and join us. It is exciting to see how the Lord is working in our church! Thank you so much for your prayers for Mark. Blessings, Pastor Scott

"It Is Finished" is a musical work that will never be finished in the hearts and minds of those who experienced the Worship Choir's presentation Palm Sunday morning. It was a moving experience for those who listened, but especially for the Choir and those who helped make the event possible. In addition to the Choir, I want to thank Scott Baker for his valuable technical help, and Elizabeth Glazener and Sabrina Swift for their dramatic and interpretive role in two of the songs; also, Stephanie Glazener and Jaime Lawson for their assistance in our prepara-tions. It is my prayer that the finishing touches that Jesus put to our sin on the cross, may not only be received and accepted, but put into action as we daily walk out our mission to share the Good News during and after this wonderful season of the year. Finally, remember that worship is some-thing we are to do daily at home, and then join together with others of the faith in a corporate way each and every Sunday. I hope to see you this coming Sunday for a meaningful cele-bration of our Risen Christ!! Blessings! Dick Bailey
