7/28/2019 Mission Belize Day 03 Santa Elaina Vbs

VBS at Santa Elaina
Monday July 8, 2013
Team photo prior to heading to Arms of Love for breakfast and the VBS ministry site.
Our team ate a wonderful breakfast at Arms of Love church. Skye, David, Staci and Karen eating a few
pancakes and fruit.
After breakfast the team went to Santa Elaina for VBS. We expected about 50 kids to come out, but
counting parents and others that came, the numbers pushed 70. Santa Elaina is the town where the
Lighthouse church is. The Lighthouse is where VBS was held, an offshoot of the Arms of Love Church.
Pastor Karen gladly opened her church up and welcomed our team to minister to local youth.
We split the kids into two smaller groups and played soccer and kickball. Tracy, Jacob and David helpedcoordinate soccer and Micah, Jacob, Abigail and Alaina helped out with Kickball.

Cade told the story of Gideon, emphasizing that when God is on our side, no one can stand against us!
Aaron, Brielle and Micah held high three puppets that sang and talked to the young people in theaudience. The Puppets led songs like Awesome God and Trading My Sorrows.
One puppet in particular Cecilia (puppet with orange Jesus shirt) interacted with Gideon (Cade) and
Pastor David to help make the Bible Story and events of the day a little more awesome for the kids.
Micah and Brielle played games with the kids and building relationships in order to share the love of
Christ.

Pastor David used the Evangelism cube when he communicated to kids about salvation. Nearly 40 kids
(out of 70) raised their hands indicating a decision to accept Christ as their Savior and to start living for
Him.
Pastor David also gave out Bibles to parents that came out to support VBS.

For lunch we ate some authentic Belizean food Hector & Caleb took us to a local snack shack and
introduced all of us to empanadas, soboutie, and various other dishes.
After lunch the team went back to the Arms of Love church to distribute flyers announcing the VBS we
would be running on Tuesday. The teams passed out over 100 flyers to local homes.
Tired from all the walking in the heat (it was hot!), it was time to take a short team break. The team
stopped by Cahal Pech, a Mayan archeological site, still being excavated. This was a fun time to learn
about the culture of Belize and for the team to have a few moments to relax.

The team had a late dinner at Arms of Love church and then met as a team to debrief from the day and
talk about what we needed to do to prepare for an even larger VBS tomorrow. The team spent time
together having devotions, sharing what God had been doing on the trip and covering the trip in prayer.
Last minute logistical matters were covered and then off to bed.
