2007- 2009 Grid Neutral & Cost Neutral Schools http://www.qka.com/Grid_Neutral.php

Electrical independence for California schools and Community Colleges

In 2007 at the Green Schools Summit State Architect David Thorman announced the Division of the State Architect’s (DSA) goal of having all school projects in California be Grid Neutral by 2010.

A grid neutral site produces at least as much electricity as it consumes in a year. Becoming grid neutral isn’t a goal but a necessity to decrease our dependence on fossil fuels and reduce California’s carbon footprint.

Butte College Facilitated Six Workshops– The result of this intensive process is a thorough guidebook that provides detailed information on the significance of going grid neutral. The guidebook includes case studies, tax incentives, and an outline of steps Districts can follow to become grid neutral. The guidebook was presented at the 2008 Green Schools Summit – accessible on the website
