SOLDERED JOINTS
Lead-free soldered
joints add a hand-
forged, authentic
appearance that is
both attractive and
functional. Soldered
joints create a
cohesive, watertight
body for frame and
sash members
resulting in a uniform
reaction to
temperature
fluctuation.
Patinas, the living finishes that cloak copper and bronze, are as unique as their location.
Environmental factors such as humidity and salinity work together with time to coat the surfaces with
a signature patina. Treasured as a mark of lasting value, each patina is distinct and ever-changing.
Patinas typically progress from their natural state, through earthy browns and finally settle into a
distinctive “verdigris” green.
As the patina ages, residue may wash down and be visible on surfaces beneath the cladding. This is
normal and adds to the classic appeal of Cyprium windows and doors.
RECESSED MULLION

Loewen uses only pre-finished extruded aluminum cladding to better protect window and door
exteriors and eliminate the need for painting. Our thick extruded aluminum cladding retains its shape,
resists denting and lasts longer than roll-formed aluminum.
Loewen’s selection of durable paint finishes is available in a total of 36 carefully selected colors.
The broad variation in Loewen sizes, shapes and
designs and the demanding environmental conditions
that our product encounters require an alloy that has
the ability to:
• Withstand serious impact without sustaining damage.
• Allow intricate extrusion detailing.
• Provide the malleability necessary to clad the many
sizes and shapes we offer.
• Deliver the unequaled environmental durability for
which aluminum is known.
• Provide a substrate that enhances colorfast paint
performance.
Left to Right: 3/4" (19 mm) metal SDL bar, frame cladding, sash cladding (Clear Anodized finish), 2" (50 mm) SDL (Linen), 1 1/8" (29 mm) SDL (Cranberry). Rugged .050" (1 mm) extrusions are “about the thickness of a quarter.”
NOT JUST AMPLE CHOICES, THE RIGHT CHOICES.
Our aluminum cladding is available in a wide spectrum of colors. All colors are created from Kynar-based
paint that has been enhanced with ceramic pigmentation — meaning our finishes are better able to
stand up to direct sunlight, extreme temperature variations and acidic pollutants without fading.

R-ValueThis chart measures the resistance of heat transfer through the glass. The higher the number, the better the glazing system insulates. R-Value measured at center of glass.
Solar Heat GainThis chart measures the ratio of solar heat gain through a glazing systemcompared to an unobstructed opening.
UV TransmittanceThis chart measures the percentage of ultraviolet radiated wavelengthsallowed to be transmitted through the glazing system.
Loewen uses thicker glass than most other window manufacturers, making our products more
soundproof and more resistant to impact. Plus our thicker glass is considerably more resistant to the
stresses caused by fluctuations in temperature.
Loewen windows and glass inserts for doors are available with numerous glazing options: Heat-
Smart® Plus Window Systems 1, 2 and 3, Tranquility® sound reduction system and the StormForce™
Series. Loewen Heat-Smart® Plus Window Systems use argon gas and Low E2 technology to save
heating and cooling costs. Each of the three Heat-Smart® Plus Window Systems delivers a different
level of thermal performance, allowing you to choose the system that best meets your location
requirements.
Standard Loewen glazing is available in both double and triple configurations and with a variety of
coatings to manage solar heat gain. These result in different visual shading. The photo images shown
below provide an approximation of the appearance of each glazing system.

HEAT-SMART® Plus
Heat-Smart® Plus Window Systems offer three
levels of thermal protection. The charts on
previous page show the comparative performance
of each Loewen Window System.
HEAT-SMART® Plus 1
Double glazed, with one lite of Low E2 coating
and one 1/2"(12 mm) air space filled with argon
gas*.
HEAT-SMART® Plus 2
Triple glazed, with one lite of Low E2 coating
and one 1/2" (12 mm) air space filled with
argon gas*.
HEAT-SMART® Plus 3
Triple glazed, with two lites of Low E2 coatings
and two 1/2" (12 mm) air spaces filled with
argon gas*.
Heat-Smart® Plus Window Systems also protect
furnishings by screening out much of the
damaging ultraviolet radiation that cause fading
and related damage.
SUN 240
Sun 240 is a tinted version of Low E2 glass; the appearance and performance are the same regardless
of glass thickness. Sun 240 blocks over 84% of the harmful UV radiation and absorbs 60% of visible
light for glare control, reflects invisible solar heat and, because it is a
low-emittance coating, the glass provides comfort all year round.
DOUBLE SUN 240
Double glazed with one lite of Sun 240 Low E coating and one 1/2" (12 mm) air space filled with
argon gas*.
TRIPLE SUN 240
Triple glazed with one lite of Sun 240 Low E coating and one 1/2" (12 mm) air space filled with
argon gas*.
TRIPLE SUN 240 (dual Low E2 coating)
Triple glazed with one lite of Sun 240 Low E coating, one layer of Low E2, and two 1/2" (12 mm) air
spaces filled with argon gas*.
* Note: Argon gas does not apply to units with capillary tubes installed (high altitude glazing).

Tranquility®
Sound Transmission Coefficient (STC)
Tranquility® available on product configured for triple pane only.
Sound Transmission Coefficient (STC)The STC rating is a way to measure the performance of a glazing system using a single number that represents the Sound Transmission Loss performance over a range offrequencies. The higher the number, the greater the noise reduction.
All Loewen products available in triple glazed sash may be ordered with Tranquility®, however, onlyCasement has been formally tested for STC.

TRANQUILITY®
Loewen’s heavy frames, thick glass and superior fit and finish result in above-average sound
attenuation. For problem applications, we’ve developed an upgraded glazing system that offers even
better sound transmission performance.
Tranquility® Glazing Systems greatly reduce sound transmission.
• Tranquility® Glazing Systems consist of a 1/4" (6 mm) pane of glass on the exterior, a 13/16"
(21 mm) air or argon filled space, and a 9/32" (7 mm) pane of laminated glass on the interior.
• Tranquility® Glazing is available on all Loewen products that can be made in a triple
glazed configuration.
• Operating casement units test out at STC40 (no storm panel is required to achieve this rating).
• Laminated glass used in the sealed unit provides increased security.
• Tranquility® provides approximately the same thermal performance as Heat-Smart® Plus 1.
• The laminated glass used in Tranquility® helps to filter out damaging ultraviolet rays.
