Who are the “military spouse”?Military Spouse community
online is not only limited wives and husbands. But to fiancés, girlfriends, boyfriends, and, family members who have their significant other or their loved one serving our country.
They are often the hidden minority of the United States.
What social media tools are popular or used within the military spouse community online?
Blogs (Blogspot and Tumblr)
Forums (Many)Facebook Groups and Twitter MOST SOCIAL MEDIA WEBSITES HAVE APPS FOR THEIR PHONE
Why are military spouses are using social media to connect?
To connect with other military spouses who have significant others who are currently deployed or getting ready to deploy (someone who understands their experience)
To find out about current housing and community information about the next “PCS”(Permanent Change of Station) orders or military city(where most US military base are located)
To know more about military information, (pay, government housing, insurance, schools, and health benefits)
How has social media change military spouse community?
To be able to meet women and men who have the same common lifestyles with as them
An outlet for others to vent or express how they feel through struggles that “civilians” would not understand
Be updated on Fundraising events that military bases are doing
To get specific news topics about military/military spouse news
What are the positives and negatives of military spouses using social media?

Bias and stereotypes (Enlisted wives are not college educated / Only Officer wives are)
Finding lasting friendships who share the same common ideas
Internet bickering/arguments among different spouses over ranks
Having a place to express yourself and the stress you endure without having your significant other

Being able to communicate with your significant online if he/she is deployed
Expressing harsh political views (hate towards war or government orders)
