    HOSPITAL MANAGEMENT INFORMATION SYSTEM

The HMIS has been defined as a system that

provides an appropriate information support to

each decision making level of the health care

    delivery system.

    COMPONENTS

It can be composed of one or a few software

    components with specialty-specific extensions as

well as of a large variety of sub-systems in

    medical specialties.

    SOFTWARE COMPONENT

A software component is a system element

offering a predefined service or event, and able

    to communicate with other components

    It should be...

    Multiple-use

    Non-context-specificComposable with other components (inter

    relationship with other components)

    Encapsulated i.e., non-investigable through its

    interfaces

A unit of independent deployment and versioning

    LABORATORY INFORMATION SYSTEM

    (LIS)

Lab Information System (LIS), is a class ofsoftwarewhich handles receiving, processing and

    storing information generated by medical

    laboratory

    processes.These systems often must interface

with instruments and other information systems

    delivery process. (E.g. electronic medical

    records)

    FINANCIAL INFORMATION SYSTEM (FIS)

    Financial Information Systems (FIS) arecomputer

systems that manage the business aspect of a

    hospital. While healthcare organizations primary

priority is to save lives and not making profits,

they do acquire running costs from day to day

operations; including purchases and staff payroll

    PHARMACY INFORMATION SYSTEMS

    (PIS)

    Pharmacy information systems (PIS) arecomplex

computer systems that have been designed tomeet the needs of a pharmacy department.

Through the use of such systems, pharmacists

can supervise and have inputs on how

medication is used in a hospital.

of healthcare environments, and made available

in a timely and orderly fashion to aid nurses in

    improving patient care

    PICTURE ARCHIVING COMMUNICATIONSYSTEM (PACS)

    Picture Archiving Communication System (PACS)

is a loose term to describe a set ofsystems that

facilitate the archiving, processing and viewing of

digital radiological images and their related

    REPORTS

Written reports are documents which present

focused, salient content to a specific audience.

Reports are often used to display the result of an

    experiment, investigation, or inquiry. The

audience may be public or private, an individual

or the public in general. Reports are used in

    government, business, education, science, and

    other fields.

Reports often use persuasive elements, such as

    graphics, images, voice, or specialized

vocabulary in order to persuade that specific

audience to undertake an action. One of the most

common formats for presenting reports is IMRAD:

    Introduction, Methods, Results and Discussion.

This structure is standard for the genre because

it mirrors the traditional publication of scientific

research and summons the ethos and credibility

of that discipline. Reports are not required to

follow this pattern, and may use alternative

patterns like the problem-solution format.Additional elements often used to persuade

readers include: headings to indicate topics, to

more complex formats including charts, tables,

figures, pictures, tables of contents, abstracts,

    summaries, appendices, footnotes, hyperlinks,

    and references.

Some examples of reports are: scientific reports,

    recommendation reports, white papers, annual

    reports, auditor's reports, workplace reports,
