UNIVERSITY 101 UNIVERSITY 102 Every first year freshman takes this course CAMP has two sections of thirty students each Class meets only once a week Many guest speakers and campus resources Advising piece is a large component In addition, our program advisor meets with each student Students are informed and become familiar with graduation requirements Students will gain a broader perspective regarding topics such as diversity, cultural sensitivity and adversity. Student will develop a substantial foundation of skills and strategies for academic success regarding topics such as time management, goal setting, test taking, motivation, and critical reading. Students will be able to identify the positive benefits and values of establishing good study habits early on in their academic career. Students will be aware of the array of struggles and challenges college students face. Students will gain understanding of how their individual independence, emotional intelligence, wellness, and personal attitude influence their academic performance and success. CWU CAMP COURSES

CWU CAMP TIMELINE OF SERVICESJULY:

Focus: Discover! Orientation-five sessions

Services include assistance with fall quarter registration, housing assignments (and deferments) as well as financial aid assistance.

Students fill out mentee applications to be paired with a CAMP Mentor for the first 6 weeks of Fall Quarter

Director attends Annual Director’s Meeting in DC

AUGUST:

Necessary follow-up with students is conducted and incoming student cohort is finalized Any students who did not attend Discover Orientation are contacted by CAMP staff

SEPTEMBER:

Focus: prepare for academic year

Official CAMP Program Orientation is held as well as bonding activities (social, BBQ) Students participate in Wildcat Welcome Weekend (WWW) CAMP staff assist students with the move in process Mentor Social is held so that mentor/mentees to get to know one another CAMP specific sections of UNIV 101 begin

OCTOBER:

First monthly seminar is held. Topic: Health and Wellness. Various speakers are brought into inform the students about their services; physical appointments are offered

Students begin signing up for Individual Education Plan (IEP) appointments. Staff will begin meeting one on one with all students

NOVEMBER:

Monthly seminar topic: Representatives from relevant centers such as Center for Diversity and Social Justice, Center for Leadership and Civic Engagement

Registration for next quarter takes place

DECEMBER:

Monthly seminar topic: potluck dinner and white elephant gift exchange. Final stipends for this calendar year are distributed

JANUARY:

Monthly seminar topic: FAFSA workshop for CAMP students Quarterly Check-ins are scheduled/conducted Students attend NWSLC in Portland, OR UNIV 102: College Survival Skills course begins

FEBRUARY:

Seminar topic: FAFSA Follow-up workshop for CAMP students Latino/a Educational Achievement Project (LEAP) Conference in which students visit state capitol

in Olympia as well as attend workshops with various topics

MARCH:

Monthly seminar topic: Student Employment/Work Study, Next year housing options Spring Trip takes place, 20-25 students to Seattle (museum, tour, cultural meal) Washington State CAMP Consortium Leadership Retreat is held

APRIL:

Seminar topic: Scholarships/Internships Quarterly Check-ins are scheduled and conducted Mentoring program announcement made, applications handed out Mentor selections are made and training is held

MAY:

Seminar topic: Student Support Services (SSS) TRiO program Fall Advising is conducted End of the Year Recognition Banquet and Graduate Luncheon External program evaluation is conducted Staff attends NASDME Conference

JUNE:

Focus: CAMP Staff Development

(End of the Year BBQ is held for continuing students) CAMP staff conducts 1 day (8 hour) staff development where the year is evaluated. We re-

familiarize ourselves with the grant proposal, program policies and procedures, federal regulations, and university protocol. Decisions will be made to make changes regarding program policy and implementation schedule.

CAMP staff participates in teambuilding retreat with HEP staff.

Throughout this course we will focus on elements of learning such as how to improve memory and concentration, provide you with a deeper understanding of time management, general study skills, and various note-taking methods, as well as the ability to recognize your specific learning style as tailored specifically to collegiate environment. We hope that ultimately you will utilize these techniques and apply them as best you can to your studies to eventually overcome all obstacles and achieve academic success in college. CAMP STUDENT CONTRACT 2014-2015

I, _________________________, agree that, in order to participate in the College Assistance Migrant Program (CAMP) at Central Washington University, I will comply with the conditions listed below.

I AGREE TO (Please initial each item):

___ Give serious attention to academics; I will attend all my classes, make a conscientious effort to promptly complete all assignments, and seek additional assistance, such as tutoring, when needed.

___ Maintain a grade point average (GPA) above a 2.0 and complete a minimum of 12 credits per quarter. (Failure to maintain either of these requirements may result in dismissal from the CAMP Program due to strict federal guidelines all programs must adhere to)

___ Register for the CAMP class for the first two quarters (UNIV 101/102)

___ Meet with my assigned CAMP advisor a minimum of two times per quarter.

___ Complete required study table hours (4 hours per week)

___ Meet with my peer mentor regularly for the first six weeks of fall quarter AND respect his/her time by being on time for scheduled meetings

___ Attend all required CAMP sponsored activities, including, but not limited to, CAMP new student orientation and monthly meetings.

___ Respect my CAMP staff and peers (this includes showing up on time for all CAMP meetings-individual or group)

___ Observe and follow all rules and guidelines set forth by CWU student conduct.

The College Assistance Migrant Program at CWU agrees to:· Solicit the input of CAMP students whenever possible to enhance student success and program.

· Provide CAMP students with academic and other support deemed essential for each students’ success at Central Washington University.

· Support CAMP students and/or their petitions before university departments and committees as necessary

Termination from CAMP may occur if:· Any violation of this agreement may cause partial or complete loss of CAMP scholarship, stipend and/or program services as well as possible termination from the program. · Any student found in violation of any university rules or regulations concerning drugs or alcohol, sexual harassment, or acts of violence will be terminated immediately from the CAMP

program.

All our students are assigned a tutoring plan of either 4 or 5 hours a week (study tables)

We assign 9 students per tutor

We have many who sign up but don’t go

We make available community service events, but they don’t go

We offer other student development workshops around campus, but they still don’t go

We all will have different takes on this? We are a commuter campus.
