Onrust Is land

• This Onrust Island fortification was destroyedduring 1800 resulting from the English attack.

Afterwards was built again in 1840 as the navalbase, but was again destroyed during 1883when the tidal wave resulting from the eruption

of the Krakatau mountain happening• These islands were neglected more than aquarter of the century. Just was built again in

1911, but his function and no longer as the placeof the defense but as the pilgrim's quarantine.The existence of this history received quite big

attention from the Special Capital District ofJakarta Government

FISH MARK ET• Located at the mouth of the Ciliwung

River, this market area bustles with

activities related to the sea. The MaritimeMuseum (Museum Bahari), situated at theharbor, is housed in restored Dutch ware-

houses dating back to the first trading postof the Dutch East Indies. Relics of shipsthat ply the islands are on display.

• The daily catch from the sea is auctionedat the nearby public fish market before

5:00 a.m.

INTAN CITY BRIDGE 1628 - 2009

• Intan City Bridge is located at Jalan NelayanBarat, West Jakarta. It’s the old bridge in Jakarta

that has a large role in the development ofhistory of the city. It had changed its nameseveral times before it was called Jembatan

Kota Intan or Kota Intan Bridge according to theera.

• Originally in 1628 this bridge was built under thename of “Engelse Brug” (English Bridge),because it connected the Dutch fortress with the

English fortress that lay opposite each other,bordered by Ciliwung River

• In 1628 and 1629 there was an attack from Banten andMataram against the fortress Betawi causing damage to

this bridge. But it was rebuilt by the Dutch in 1630, andon that time it was known as “Jembatan Pasar Ayam”(Chicken Market Bridge). In 1655 this bridge was againreconstructed and named “Het Middelpunt Brug” (TheCenter Bridge).

• In April 1938 it became a drawbridge that can be liftedfor boat traffic and for preventing from the flood that

happen often. Nevertheless, the shape and style wereunchanged, but the name was become“Juliana-Bernhard”. After the Proclamation of IndonesianIndependence (August 17, 1945), its name was changedinto “Jembatan Kota Intan”, suitable to local position.

NATIONAL MONUMENT 1961 - 2009

• National Monument is located at Jalan TamanSilang Monas, Central Jakarta. This structurewas built on August 17, 1961 which work was

completed only in 1975 and for the constructionof this monument; Indonesian experts like Ir.Rooseno, Ir. Sudarsono and even Ir. Soekarno

himself were involved in the architecturalplanning.• The attraction available such as panorama of

Jakarta, struggling diorama, the record ofproclamation text by the President Ir. Soekarnoand duplicate of Indonesian army clothes andIndonesian map. The activities and the facilities

include research library exhibition and officerooms.
